There are thousands of calculations going on that an F1 car won't need to do - e.g. measuring crank angle acceleration and deviation for misfire's, emissions controls,abs,can databus vehicle info,etc

Every 10ms, rear wheel speed delta is taken by the ecu, compared to front wheel speed, ETB/Ign*/Fuel are changed. The day is coming when engine (& powertrain) management can be finely tuned for any application.

The panels would need to be the size of the hatch (more like size of the car) for a traditional bottle heater and cost would be in the x,xxx range. Even with a Peltier Junction, you're still looking at mild electrical load. Using solar to maintain bottle temp would be logical, but any large amount of heating/cooling in a reasonable amount of time wouldn't be practical.

If the car isn't chipped, you'll be fine on 87. The air meter will pickup the change in airflow. The calibration may not be perfect, but running 93 octane won't correct it.

Nah the 88+ M20 engine is lower comrpession, and will run just fine on 87 (in stock form).

Really depends on your application. In a test lab, where the only variable is the fuel, E85 or any other "oxycarbon" based fuel will make more power but at the cost of higher consumption rates.

If you have the fuel system to support it, E85 has the R+M/2 of 101 oct, on the cheap. Not to mention, alcohol has some interesting characteristics that definitely help it increase output on forced induction applications. How can you say no to higher mean pressure with lower peak pressure?

Forgot to mention, ECM makes LAB GRADE equipement, as in, the same controllers used to calibrate at an OEM level -- AFR to the tenth. ECM + NTK sensor = tag team of win.

The NTK sensor is very resistant to deterioration from lead deposits. Any tool used for measurement should have a cal feature to deal with age. However, due to the sampling method, the sensor should be replaced when needed. (they flat line when expired). Most car-installable wide bands will use the Bosch LSU 4.X because of simplicity, parts are readily available, and sub 100$. There are aftermarket units that use/can use the NTK....FJO & NTK AFX for example Nitrous has very little effect on oxygen sensors since its made up of nitrogen and oxygen.
