  1. New cars, yes. Anytime you saturate the new car market it makes for very affordable used cars in the following years. Take any new car being made and your statement still stands. The people who have a lower income will be able to buy a Model 3/Y very easily in the next few years. In addition, once the used market is looking for batteries en masse the prices of replacement aftermarket units will fall as well.

Though, Tesla warranty covers 8 years unlimited miles for powertrain, so it may be moot for a while.

    This is encouraging to hear.

  2. Should automakers target country-dwelling brokedicks when making their 20 year product plans?

Yes, it's generally wealthy urbanites buying the electric cars now. That's who GM wants to sell to. That's who Ford, Hyundai, BMW, VW want to sell to. That's why they're all abandoning ICE cars over the next 15 years. They don't want to get caught on their asses when the people who can actually afford new cars only want EVs. They don't care if their consumers are pompous twits taking out 84 month loans to buy cars they can't afford. In fact, that's been their MO for years. You think the average Mustang buyer is looking for anything other than a status symbol? You think they're not stretching their budgets to get their dream car?

But I'll get off my high horse, if someone wants to post up some actual evidence that automakers choosing to drop ICEs over the next 15 years is anything other than rational actors reacting to consumer demand in a free-market economy, I will change my mind. Hit me with facts.

No need to be a cocksucker about it.

I live in the country, surrounded by nearly $500k houses. Sure don't see a ton of EVs out this way. Not sure you have to be a brokedick to choose to live in the country away from folks such as yourself.

My point is, EVs don't make sense for a LOT of people, at least in their current iterations. Do I think that manufacturers shouldn't continue to innovate? Not at all. But, a HUGE portion of this country doesn't choose that Urban lifestyle, for a reason.

I'm not gonna dig into trying to find some "actual evidence" because I honestly don't give a shit. The car manufacturers are going to do what they're going to do, regardless of what I think. All I can tell you is that driving to work every day, I pass a lot of fairly pricey ICE vehicles sitting in driveways, and not a whole lot of EVs. Must be some reason for that besides us all being a bunch of broke dicks.

  3. Are Model 3s piling up in a warehouse somewhere, or is Tesla doing everything they can to make production meet demand?

They sold 450,000 Model 3/Ys last year. That's a lot of product to move for any single model, yet alone one in that price segment.

    What am I missing?

Where and to who are these being sold?

I'd guess city dwelling millennials, those who are upper-middle class, or those in lower-middle class who are stretching their budget looking for a status symbol.

  4. Wow. Well, as someone who has traveled the country the past 20+ years for work, from the largest cities to the most rural areas, if living in high population density areas and taking public transit is the answer, kill me now. And I say that with all sincerity. I've learned that high population density areas are NOT for me and the complete opposite of where I want to live my life.

Exactly this. I hate people. I have zero desire to be packed in around people.

Personally, I COULD make an EV work for a daily commuter, but that's me and my situation. ~60mi commute. House was built in 2003, so has 200a 240v service. I'd have to install a 60a line to my garage (east side of house) from my panel in the basement (west side of house). I'm confident I could do it myself, but I'm not certified in electrical in anyway, so if I wanted to cover my ass, I would probably have to hire it done. Given how busy those guys are these days, they would probably charge me a fortune.

Also, for my frequent cross country hunting trips, an EV would be absolutely worthless. I'm frequently driving 18h a day, stopping in the middle of nowhere to camp out for a few hours before hitting the road again. And then when I get to my destination, I'm into some nasty mountainous terrain. Yea, an EV in their current offerings wouldn't fair well for this.

I understand each person's needs and situations are different, but I agree with the other fella, in that, shoving them down EVERYONE'S throats probably won't work, and is a bit presumptuous about how people live their lives.

  5. How many of you or know someone that: Yelled at a cop, snatched/ripped up a ticket a cop gave you, Cussed at a cop and/or called them all kinds of names, ran away from cops and still lived scratch/bullet hole-free to tell about it?

Now, imagine if a black person did ANY of that what do you think the outcome would be?

I don't know anyone, personally, who has done that.

  6. Mace..... come on. Can you think of any way that prejudice in policing tactics (stop and frisk, driving while Black), prejudice in enforcement (Blacks getting disproportionately charged for the equal crimes, and receiving harsher sentences), and prejudice in institutions which affect poverty rates (which is disproportionately high in black communities) might manifest itself in African Americans disproportionately showing up more in FBI crime statistics?

You can't just drop a turd like that into the thread and then say "no prejudice" when the entire national discussion is about how prejudice can affect black communities in exactly the way that you're pointing out.

Plus, this is a fucking meme at this point..

Honest question. Do you think the disproportionately high amount of black on black violence has any sway or influence on how police approach and handle those in the black community? Do you suppose they (LEOs) are molded in any way by their experiences?

  7. Honest question. Can somebody link me to just one police shooting where the victim wasn't doing something asinine that got the whole thing started?

Legitimately, the only one I can think of is the white kid lying on the hallway floor of a hotel that gets lit up by a cop with a twitchy finger.

  8. Welp. Gotta eat my words. Court of public opinion and threat of bodily harm and/or doxxing is a real swayer of of opinions in today's day and age.

I didn't think they presented anything close to concrete evidence in either of the murder charges, yet here we are.

Dude is clearly a shithead in this case, but murder seemed like a bit much.

  9. At this time last year everyone was on complete lockdown. Maybe that affects the numbers.

Fair point, however, I believe 2020 was the highest # of homicides on record for Cbus. We're on schedule to crush that.

I heard (unverified) that Cbus now has more shootings per Capita than Chicago. That's concerning.

  10. This is worse than what Trump said and she won’t even get a slap on the wrist.

Let alone she might be the reason Chauvin gets a mistrial regardless of the verdict. What an idiot. The liberal mob is feasting on itself.

The fact that we have a mob screaming for justice is hilarious to me. So if this dude is acquitted on all charges, by a jury of their (racist?) peers, are they still going to consider that justice? Of course not. They want THEIR version of justice. Its sickening.

The defense has decimated the prosecution in this case. At best, I see a negligent homicide charge. I do not see either of the murder charges sticking.

Either way, prepare yourself for more riots. This shit is getting ridiculous. The anti-police movement in this country and the police now treating people with kid gloves because of what may happen to them, along with the lockdowns causing people to go HAM, has had a serious impact on society. I just read on the news this morning that Columbus has doubled its homicides from this point last year. That's absolutely nuts. Great job, everybody, you're doing so well!

  11. Do I find it strange? No, it's to be expected now. Boulder shooter (and previous shooters) had all these reporters and Twitter "blue checkmarks" saying "oh see, another white man bla bla bla racism". Then it turns out it's a black man or a Syrian immigrant. The Asian thing also turned out that it had nothing to do with racism, but the dude has a sex addiction problem.

I know all too well where this is leading to. White people are evil racists, therefore we can make it harder to get them into universities, harder to get a job, harder to start/own a business, harder to get financial aid, harder to own property.

Filibusters are also racist now, it makes Jim Crow look like "Jim Eagle" - Joe Biden

Starting to sound an awful lot like South Africa.

  12. I consider myself a liberal gun owner, ccw holder, etc. and I agree with effectively every point made in here so far regarding gun control. As I've said before, "we can't let the perfect be the enemy of the good". IE, we shouldn't use the absence of a perfect solution as a reason to do nothing.

I think assault rifle/magazine bans are ineffective, as I can realistically do as much damage with a 12 gauge and a couple pistols as one guy with an AR if I'm hell-bent on being crazy guy. I have always felt that a couple extra steps in the gun purchase process wouldn't be a problem for me. In some instances making it a little tougher wouldn't be bad thing and would represent a relatively easy low-hanging fruit type step.

There is no easy answer, but that doesn't mean no action is the right action. You can throw life vests to everybody when the ship is sinking, and you'll still have a few people bitching because they aren't their size.

I'm always curious what people whining for more gun control think about the hundreds of other laws already on the books. What makes the next "common sense measure" the one that's finally the answer?

  13. While true, the states that neighbor CO do not have those laws, so a resident can drive 1-2 hours, buy what they want, and bring it back to CO.

They can also go to their local Walmart and pick up a couple pressure cookers if they so choose.

There needs to be a national policy, and I'm sure CO gun stores would be in favor of this in the name of interstate commerce.

Um...there is. It's #2 under the Bill of Rights.

  14. I wonder also how people are affording these higher prices on homes. Wages have not gone up as fast as home prices have. And also property taxes have gone up.

Will there be lots of foreclosures again in the near future like there were around 2007-2010 ish? People getting in over their head on mortgage payments.

Yup. Banks are pulling the same shit they did 15 years ago.

The COVID crash is coming, just wait.

    Yup.

  15. We told ya. ;) Hard to beat for the price.

I smashed 3/4 of a 750ml bottle on the night OSU slammed Clemson and woke up with the worst hangover I have had in a decade. Damn that stuff mixed well with some Diet Coke. I haven't had a sip of whiskey since that night.

  16. 64 from 70 is a pretty aggressive turndown. There is a point at which the usage required to recover the full air volume of the house X degrees will offset the savings of turning it down that far. You've got to climb back up the hill, so to speak.

Just food for thought, but you could experiment with it to find out whether it matters.

I've never done the math, but I turn my HVAC off at 6a when I leave, and turn it back on via my app at 6pm before heading home.

House is 2000sf, built in 2003. Heat pump primary with propane auxiliary. Even with the single digit temps last week, the house never dropped below 55*. By the time I get home at 730, the house is back up to 64-65*, which is where I keep it.

Again, never done the math, but I figure even 1.5hr at full burn still has to be better than leaving it on all day. Even when the heat function isn't on, the blower still kicks on occasionally to circulate the air.

  17. It is some slippery shit though. My driveway has about 5" of granular sleet/ice that the ole Colorado refused to go through. I couldn't even get the front of the truck off the road. Its about time for a replacement, I think.
