Sure. Mods? Just the lightweight wheels, and cheap cheap summer tires.

It wasn't horrible. I had the time, and the products, so I did it. This is my first non metallic car since highschool and the lack of depth, and ease with which the swirls showed (not hidden by the metallic) really annoyed me. Turned out really great.
  8. Can't go wrong with either IMO. I am 6'6" and shall we say big boned, and can only comfortably fit in about a half dozen cars. The Evo was laughably small, so it was crossed off the list within half a second. Luckily they came out with the Golf R, solving my automotive dilemma (ask Jones, I was a tortured man, looking for a car).

To be honest, I got bored half way through... I did the more aggressive polish, and was like shit, i'm tired of this, yet I still had to do the micro polish, wash it and do the sealer :fuuuu: This is a once a year thing for me now.

It'll be getting the later, next year. I'll make due until then.
  11. With the recent out pour of love for the Golf R, I decided to take some pictures. :dumb: I have been working on the car for the last few days, did the following: Wash Clay Alcohol wipe Menzerna Intensive Polish with White pad Menzerna Micro Polish with Black pad Wash Chemical Guys Black Light sealant The Black Light is really good stuff, instantly provided more gloss, and couldn't be easier to use. http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/A4SHO/GolfRMay232013093_zps0185eb1a.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/A4SHO/GolfRMay232013091_zps793009e7.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/A4SHO/GolfRMay232013113_zps2b6fa522.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/A4SHO/GolfRMay232013129_zpsd9b05df7.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/A4SHO/GolfRMay232013210_zps6b47696b.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/A4SHO/GolfRMay232013172_zps3945cf30.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/A4SHO/GolfRMay232013172_zps3945cf30.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/A4SHO/GolfRMay232013035_zpseb5dae7f.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/A4SHO/GolfRMay232013197_zps6282300f.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/A4SHO/GolfRMay232013143_zps64437e74.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/A4SHO/GolfRMay232013078_zps75b4a914.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/A4SHO/GolfRMay232013130_zpsf3c38bee.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/A4SHO/GolfRMay232013046_zpsedb79db8.jpg

  13. Give me a few, and I'll go full bench racer on you. STI and Golf R trade times on different tracks, but you are correct, the evo's are consistently faster, which is exactly what i said.

  15. wasn't zach looking for those stock mustang wheels?
  16. They both push when driven at a moderate pace, even the Evo. Once you increase the pace, supposedly, the Evo neutrals out very nicely, and while the R does too, it still won't match the Evo as a pure driving tool. Every single test since the Evo came out, has said its the sharpest, most responsive, and fastest car of the 3 (evo, sti and R variants), but also the least livable, the cheapest quality, and the loudest. The STI is more of a middle ground between the 2 I would say, more "true" awd system, nicer middle of the pack interior, yet has the performance. The R gets the same performance as the STI around the track, but loses in straight line acceleration, has the best interior by a mile, and for me is the best choice. Totally different cars. If you don't value what a german car has to offer, then you won't "get" the R. All 3 are great cars.
  17. A comparably equipped Evo is more expensive than the r. The r is comparable to the sti in terms of handling performance and lap times, and a bit slower than an Evo.
  18. Keep in mind, the esp is now defeatable, and you can rotate the car easily, has lift off oversteer, etc. Very tossable, and entertaining to drive imo.
  19. One stop shop is APR. You can load up your cart with a fully loaded stg 2+ chip, intake, fuel pump and turbo back exhaust. They are quite pricey though. If it were me, I'd do some mix and matching to get it a bit cheaper. I'd do United Motorsports Chip (no lift shift, launch control, and allows brake and gas at same time for brake boost). APR is redoing their software because UM stole TONS of their customers recently. EVOMS intake. 42DD turboback, and an APR fuel pump.
  20. Keep in mind, the ESP is fully defeatable now.
  21. Oh, and ask those who commented in this thread who has driven both... My guess? 1, maybe 2 people.
  22. Depends on what he values. Golf r isn't the ultimate performance vehicle the EVO X is, but it does daily life, practicality, and price, much, much, MUCH better than the evo, and its pretty close in performance on paper. For those that said to keep the Golf R stock, :dumb: You can pick up 100tq and about 60hp with an intake, fuel pump, downpipe and chip. (under $2,500)
  23. he mentioned a beater manual s10 in the other thread, is that what he wants? Be a good dad and sell his regal, and let him get a decent car...
