Going on 3 years now without a problem. Even when I got pulled over and was issued a speeding ticket, they still didn't even bother to walk around front to check for a plate. I don't know what I'd do if I got a ticket though, I lost the front plate a long time ago.

I agree with most of your requirements, except for the auto part. I think a low horsepower manual car would be a great thing to start out with. Making him learn manual will teach him to pay attention to his driving instead of talking on the cell phone or trying to do other stupid shit that distracts from what he should be doing. It's much easier to talk on the phone and eat McDonald's when you don't have to keep a free hand for shifting. My first car was the Miata, and while it's not what most would consider a "safe" car for a 16 year old, I've never been in an accident, and after my first speeding ticket in the car I decided to get smart. It's RWD, which taught me to REALLY pay attention when driving in snowy conditions, and it was a quick fun car without being too fast for me to handle safely. BTW, I'd consider a late 80's or early 90's 4-cylinder Camry. Big enough to survive an accident, not fast, good gas mileage, and they run for fucking ever. I work at a Toyota dealer and seeing these things come in with 300,000 miles is not uncommon.

As much as I want to make some sarcastic comment about Mustangs, there are about 10000 people on this board that would probably hunt me down with sharp objects. I like my car, and what other people think of it doesn't keep me up at night.

Only someone using "mary-j" would even find this remotely funny.

Anyone have an Alltel phone for sale? I broke my RAZR and I'm looking for something to replace it so I don't have to renew my contract. Would like to get another RAZR or maybe a Treo, but I'm starting to get tired of trying to find one of those for a decent price. Let me know!

As long as there are judges who have their "own" way of doing things, there will always be loopholes. On my last (second) ticket, the judge told me that since I already took the class, I didn't have to take it again but he would still put me on the record as having took it again. Not sure if it did anything at that point because I was still under 18. Just paying close attention on the freeway will help more then any radar detector (though they're nice to have too )

On-Demand FTW. But yea that is really annoying, especially when they do it for really horrible movies. Why can't there just be one movie channel that only plays racing/car related movies? Grand Prix, Bullitt, Gone in 60 Seconds, The Italian Job, etc. Oh and of course Fast and the Furious (J/K). I could probably live the rest of my life with just that one movie channel and never need anything else.

Yea, I think we were like 2 cars over from you guys in grid, but I was so busy trying to keep tires/radiator cool that I barely had time to come over and introduce myself. All of that water spraying didn't really help me at all though, best time was a 49.206 IIRC. Not real good compared to the rest of the class. Congrats on coming in 2nd in the club challenge though, I couldn't believe how close the combined times were. BTW, how'd you like the off-camber turn at the top of the hill near the security guard shack? Reminded me of a mini-version of Thunder Alley (or is it Valley?) at Mid-Ohio. Fun course overall for anyone with RWD.

Oh and if you see this before tomorrow, I would strongly advise watching your speed limit very closely once you get off the highway. Route 8 (the road that Northfield is on) is always being watched by a bunch of anal cops, and they will enforce the 25 mph speed where it applies. So just be careful, getting a speeding ticket before the event has even started is a horrible way to start the day.
-
I'll be there too, running for NORA. The Northfield lot is absolutely gigantic compared to what we've been able to run lately in Northeast Ohio. Last I hear we're coming close to 150 drivers for this event, so there should be some good competition. I'll be in the Red 91 Miata, #17 E-Stock if you want to come say hi.

RWD is just fine in the snow. I live near Lake Erie so we get a ton of lake effect snow. I don't care if it only ways 2200 lbs, with a set of Blizzaks and a (somewhat) competent driver it has no problem going through snow. People who say RWD isn't good for snow/rain covered roads just need to learn about throttle control. End rant EDIT: anyone who doesn't put their top down in the snow is a pussy

Yea, definitely looks like a bunch of little punks used it for a hang out to plot their anarchist revolution.

Any chance you guys will still have this going on around September? I'll be back for school then and would really like to come out to one of these meets before it starts getting too cold out.

He came to OSU this year and did a free show. One of the best comedians out there.

While it is possible that it was converted to AWD, I doubt it's required. This is SCCA Rally, so I think a lot of these cars probably have mild modifications other than safety items such as the lights, cages, interior parts, etc. Up in Northeast Ohio we have some really nice roads in an area called Kirtland Hills that make you want to throw a helmet on and go all out with a co-driver screaming next to you. Really narrow, twisty roads with all kinds of elevation changes. Too bad there are like 3 cops in the town and they have nothing else better to do than catch people for going 5 mph over.

Ohio talking E-check will your car pass????
Flyin Miata replied to MaverickGrabber1972's topic in Passing Lane
Yea I live in Mentor and we still have E-Check... knowing people who work at the station helps too. There are ways around it, luckily my car is damn near stock so I've never had to worry about passing. -
My idea was that the black screen at the end represented a sort of "lights out" for Tony. It seemed pretty obvious to me that he would've got shot had they showed what happened, and I think the black screen was sort of showing his perspective of what the final ending was. Just an idea though...

+1 on Ted's Montana Grill, get the Bison burger. Best burger I've ever had, and I've had a lot of burgers

Can I get a general consesus on what's right here please....
Flyin Miata replied to Bam's topic in Dumpster
If she knows that your car had no front plate and willingly drove it, then I would say she's responsible for whatever happens while she's driving it. It could've just as easily happened while you were driving, but it didn't so she is at fault. -
And this is why I'm always paranoid about leaving my car parked on the streets near campus. What really worries me is some drunk ass trying to get their car out and/or pulling out of a spot right behind me. Been lucky so far, but anyways hope you get it all back together soon.

Going to look at a Sky Redline this week!
Flyin Miata replied to Minty Fresh's topic in Passing Lane
Hands down, best thing about 2-seaters is that friends don't make you haul them around everywhere. Unless you only have one friend, then you've probably got more things to worry about. -
That's why I almost never have problems

Going to look at a Sky Redline this week!
Flyin Miata replied to Minty Fresh's topic in Passing Lane
I never thought I would say that a Saturn was an attractive car, but damn these things look good. I like the angled front on the Sky better than the rounded Solstice front. I would vote black for the color, only because you could get some black wheels down the road and be all stealthy . -
When I was 16 I got two (and my only two) tickets. First one was a 30 day suspension because it was 5 weeks after I had got my license. Second one was the mandatory 90 days for a second ticket. That's how it is in Lake County and from what I've heard many counties follow this policy too.
