  1. Leaf Springs... No weight over the rears... And it'll hook how?
  2. SC2 is Blizzards first fully separate release since WoW. I'm interested in how the game is since the devs literally had an unlimited budget and time to complete it. There's no excuses about getting it out to stores to make back investor money.
  3. Yeah, going to have to hook it up to a centrifuge to get the full 5G lateral force.
  4. Very nice. I'm seriously eyeballing a Leggy for a DD also as my current beater is just about dead.
  5. It's just awesome what happens when you take a simple physics equation (ThingA hits ThingB) and then tweak one of the parameters WAY up (velocity). You get solids acting like liquids (bullets splashing), malleable solids behaving like crystalline solids (target metal crystallizes on impact), and just other craziness.. Gotta love it.
  6. AWD has a much greater drivetrain loss than 2WD, so you're writing off power right there that could be used to win. But the big reason is that by agreeing to roll race, he's bargaining away his biggest advantage. It's like the TA guy agreeing to race with Prius tires on the back. Wrong tool for the job. If someone wants to drag race or roll race, there are TONS of better cars out there for the job. I love the STI, but it's just not a drag racer. If I was interested in drag racing, I'd probably have an f-body or mustang. When you're seeing about 100% weight transfer, AWD is hinderance not a benefit. To 1bad95gt: Didn't realize you knew the guy. He'll likely have to mail the ECU to Cobb to have it unmarried/reflashed. I'm pretty sure you can D/L and reflash an ECU that's married to an AccessPORT, so it's likely it was that other company (ECUTek! Just remembered the name.) But Cobb will be able to wipe it and reflash a base map. The BOV was hurting him definitely, I'm glad he sees reason and is getting rid of it for a BPV. I would strongly recommend that you, as a friend, tell him to stop hammering on his car until it's tuned properly. He busts a ringland he can write off the shortblock and possibly a head. If the pump is stock, he'll need to upgrade it as well. The stock fuel pump can just handle the stock injectors. Both need to be upgraded at the same time. There's a HUGE thread at IWSTI.com about IDCs and doing just a pump or just injectors. The improvements of just doing one or the other are marginal at best and the only REAL results were found by upgrading both. As above, do it right the first time. There's a lot of hissing in the video too. Does he have an external wastegate that dumps to atmosphere? If not, it's either the BOV leaking, or an up-pipe leak. Probably the UP though.. Check all the header's gaskets for carbon; especially the one at the UP flange. Oh, and if he hasn't yet, get a Compression and Leakdown test before he does anything more to the car. Best to know if the engine is sound before spending more money.
  7. The thing about the BMW, Jag, and Benz is that they are priced that low on the used market because once they are out of warranty they are $$$ to fix, and they usually have a slew of fixes that have to be done in the next few years. Only way to buy one would be to find out all the common problems (ball joints, bushings, timing components, etc) and then track one down with documentation that the work has been done.
  8. Gold rims are ok.. But I don't like gold with polished/chrome lip. It makes the gold look dull.
  9. No stock computer is locked. Only locked ECUs I know of were from a particular mail-in tuner. I forget the name, but their paranoia over OpenSource tuning and the shennanigans they pulled to "protect their IP" pretty much killed their business. As far as cutting out between gears, it's possible the previous owner had a BOV and tuned it to cut the fuel between shifts. But I'm really stretching here. No matter what the reasons, if what he's saying it true, it's a crap tune and running as he is is only killing the engine slowly. Do shit right or go home. And this includes roll racing a Subaru. And yeah, Subie rumble means UNequal length headers.
  10. The STI's gearing is not set up well for this kind of racing. But he also couldn't shift. With his mods he should have been in the 350+ awhp range, and with about 200-300lbs less weight, he should have been able to keep up. Gearing and slow shifting are what killed him. Though frankly, roll-racing in a AWD car is just stupid.

  12. Have him buy you a second router, basic ones are short money. Then hook up things like this: Internet (cable/DSL/etc) modem TO His router TO Your router You will be behind your router's NAT and Firewall, giving you the same protection you currently have, and all of his packets will be entirely outside your network. Even if he gets the most basic WalMart POS router, you'll be hard wired so it won't effect your connection speed. 0 cost to you, with 100% control in your hands. Although if he starts downloading 300 torrents of Midget Luchador porn your speed will go to hell. But that would be true for any solution.
  13. No kidding... Cash was the perfect choice and it really punched me in the gut. It's sad to see him go. I hope Josh takes the reins firmly in hand and Jake gets his act together. The boats are full of addicts (cigarettes, caffeine,) but you can't be addicted to something that impairs your abilities and judgement out there.
  14. Ok, being from the east coast, I've never played this game. Is this essentially like Horseshoes but with beanbags?
  15. *dons flame suit* Perhaps it's not the car that you're tired of, but what you do with it. How much fun can a straight line be after the 10,000th time? GO - Stop. GO - Stop. This, http://matadornetwork.cachefly.net/matadortrips.com/docs//wp-content/images/posts/20100615-roads12.jpg is more fun than, http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5c/DragStrip_Nitrolympics_2005.jpg For shits and giggles, put some wide tires on the front and come out to an AutoX. Those of us here who do AutoX would be MORE than happy to get you started. Now I'm not saying this will definitely make you fall in love with your car all over again, or that you'll definitely love AutoX, but by trying new things, you might prevent getting bored with your next car. Just my $.02 and change...
  16. This is why you never buy a modified car. Doesn't matter how well it was put together or who tuned it if the loose nut behind the wheel can't drive/beats on it.
  17. I'm sure that company wants you to do your job promptly and without error. It is *NOT* unreasonable for you to expect the same from them. If they cannot handle their responsibilities as an employer, you should feel free to seek one that can. Inform them that they need to improve their performance, or you will terminate their employment contract with you.
  18. If you're buying a DD, I'd say neither. Get a stock STI and work from there. I cringe at the thought of the repair bills on the Audi. I've seen ZB work on some Audis and I would rather work on a Subaru. You have no idea how well the swap was done in either. I don't know about Audi swaps, but the Subaru swap needs to have a good tune, and it looks like he left the stock WRX 5-speed in there. Just swapping the engine and gears in a WRX != an STI. Also, I see it has a MBC and a BOV. That tune better be spot on, and he better not have fiddled with the MBC for some extra POWAH. Dunno.. I'm really hesitant about buying a modded used car. At the barest MINIMUM you should get a compression/leakdown test on the cars before you sign anything or hand over any money. How much are you planning to spend on these? Because a stock STI + a Turbo-Back exhaust + a custom tune = more AWHP than that WRX and it will be a HELL of a lot more reliable.
  19. But doesn't that make it all the more UNremarkable? We've seen 1000+hp dynographs from shops on this very forum. Look at You Tube, there's countless videos of 1000+ hp (supposedly) cars. But how many of them can drive down Sawmill on a busy day without making the driver sweat? It's not just the name. There's the interior which rivals that of a Bentley, and the road behavior that lets you cruise around town comfortably. If we're just talking about paying for performance and not a name, then you don't want the SSC either. I'm sure there's a shop or two on this very forum that could build a 300mph, 1200hp car for less than you'd spend on an SSC Aero. I'm not saying that it's easy to make a car to go this fast. What I'm saying is that in the realm of 250+mph cars, SSC isn't doing anything exceptional except being able to duplicate their effort a few times a year to sell to other people. On the other hand, Bugatti is bringing something truly exceptional to the table. Lots of people have exceeded 200mph. Many have gone faster than 250mph. And quite a few have breached 300mph. But NO ONE has EVER done it with a car that's as civilized as the Veyron. It's a technological milestone. A Top Fuel dragster makes both the Veyron and Aero look like pedal cars. But I don't think anyone would take it for a relaxing ride. And really, I don't think anyone would take the Aero for a relaxing drive either. And that's what separates the two in my opinion. We'll probably just continue to disagree. I just don't see top straight-line speed at the cost of everything else as a big deal. It's just Power + Gearing - Drag.
  20. I think you guys are missing the point of the Veryron. The Veyron does all of the above while also providing a world class interior with all the amenities, and is comfortable to just drive around town. There are many MANY groups with cars in the 200-300mph range with half the budget of SSC. Just go to Speedweek. I'm sure there are even a few people on this very forum who can make a V8 hit 1200hp. But the trick is to hit these marks while providing the fit, finish, and comfort of the Veyron. THAT is an engineering and design milestone that won't likely be reached for a very long time, if ever.
  21. I'll give the SSC more credit if the driver and passenger could hold a conversation at those speeds.
  22. Ghost Rider's STI is black... Like mine. And he tends to drive with his elbow on the window sill, gripping the spoke of the wheel.... Like me. Coincidence? Yeah...
  23. At least he went though the effort to make them fit rather than just jacking the whole car up off the ground..
