  1. Ahem.... F1's governing body is the FIA. The FIA also has a championship series at EVERY level of motorsport; even as low as Go-Karts. So an aspiring F1 driver can start at childhood, karting at the local track, and work his way up through the various driving series on a bee-line to F1. And he can do so almost anywhere in the WORLD, except for the US where we seem to only like things that go round in circles and cause crashes. A list of FIA championships: http://www.fia.com/en-GB/sport/championships/Pages/Championships.aspx And keep in mind that many countries have their own racing organizations that feed directly into the FIA championships. A series that draws upon a base of a few hundred million or a series that draws upon a base of BILLIONS.. I'm sorry, who's snobbish?
  2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfLaApNzzDY Looks good. "You guys want some Purel?"
  3. I just don't see why assassination is considered immoral, while sending in tens of thousands of soldiers and causing hundreds or even thousands of military AND civilian casualties is OK. No fucking sense. "But if you kill him, someone else will just step in and take his place. Possibly someone.. CRAZIER! OOooh!" Bullshit. The very people that "might just step into his shoes" are where they are because of their ambition. There's NO FUCKING WAY just one guy will step forward. Eliminating the crazy at the head of the government will create chaos as all the second-stringers fight and squabble for power. This will paralyze their military and let us do what's necessary to eliminate their offensive power. And ultimately, if someone else does rise above the infighting, if he turns out to be just as much of a idiot as the last guy, wash/rinse/repeat until they get a fucking clue. BTW, does Kim Jong Il remind anyone else of Cartman, or is it just me?
  4. I'd be more interested in the National Association of Stock CAr Racing if they actually raced STOCK cars. But it's been pointed out that it's not practical to do that since the manufacturers LONG AGO gave up on stock car racing when they decided that it's cheaper to whine about the competition and have NASCAR penalize them than to build a better car. It's also telling that the tracks are designed so that a car that loses control in the entry of a corner is sent BACK down through the pack rather than brought to a stop off the racing surface. But crashes sell tickets, so safety be damned. But "Rubbin's Racin'" right? If you can't pass 'em, crash 'em. That'd be hard to do without a wall to send your opponent into.
  5. Pic saved. My thoughts on Nascar have been posted before. Suffice it to say, it's the professional wrestling of motorsports, and I feel bad for the engineers. As for the FOTA breakaway. I'm sad to see it happen. But I'm very curious what the series would look like. Without the FIA, we could see some really radical changes in the car's designs. But it's equally possible that they'll be just as hidebound and we'll see just more of the same. Although the car this year look a little weird with their huge front wings and small rear, I do like the shakeup that's occurred. Ferrari and McLaren have been the "of course" teams for so long, it's good to see the others get a foothold above them. I've been very interested this year in watching how Ferrar and McLaren have been dealing with the new regs, as well as watching Red Bull become a serious contender with Brawn without a lot of the extra gimmicks. I've really enjoyed ths year, and I wanted to see what the 2010 season would be like. I like KERS as well, in theory. As it stands now, it's not a big advantage (which is by design), but I think the plans were to erxpand it's capabilities until it became a huge part of F1. I think if they bumped it to 100+hp but keep it at 6sec/lap you'd see a lot more "fencing" as the drivers use it to both attack and defend, but won't have enough to battle it out the whole lap. Well, 2010 will be interesting. I just hope that SPEED covers both, but that probably won't happen. I wouldn't be surprised if the FIA has a contract with SPEED that would keep them from showing the breakaway series.
  6. I should neg rep you for that... I won't... but I should.
  7. I didn't think it would come to this.. There's good arguments on both sides of the divide. There's also some childish BAWWING on both sides as well. I guess we'll see what happens come 2010.
  8. I saw a fiesta on GrandView a week or two ago. Not a bad looking car. A bit of a badonka-donk on it, but it looks like it'd be a pretty good little car.
  9. I hate to say it, but beyond the launch, being able to "Drive" at the drag strip consists of remembering to take your right hand off the shifter and place it on the wheel. Oh and big power in a short wheelbase = NUTZ! Those cars are cool.

  11. I love how the back window pops open when he launches. That truck is badass.
  12. The exit from 670 to 315N is supposedly going to be closed for 120 days! And I've heard that another one of the closings is scheduled for 364 days! (yes, 364, not 365 or 1 year). I've always been surprised at the road construction around here. It seems like they have no problems just closing a road. It would take a LOT for the DPW to close even a neighborhood road in MA. They'd stagger their work so there was always at least one lane through, and a State Trooper is MANDATED to be on-site whenever road construction is being done. (Though they usually sat in their car drinking coffee and collecting triple-time.) But if traffic was an issue at all, they were out and directing to keep traffic flowing.

Those are nice.. I'd love to get my hands on a G37x Coupe and see what the baby ATTESSA AWD system can do.
  15. The trick is that under the conditions for this test, sound waves apparently work just like light photons. So for "Hawking Radiation" this accoustic black hole is just as good as the real thing.
  16. Very appropriate.. from an aesthetics standpoint..

  19. A few years ago Hyundai said "We don't want to be a cheap car company any more, we're moving up market." And they have made serious strides in that direction. The Genesis (both sedan and coupe) have been very well recieved, and their 10/100 warranty has become an asset rather than a liability for them. Hyunadis are good cars now.
