  1. This is from one of the CR track days... probably in 2006-2008 time frame...

My car the the Talon in the background. I do not seem to have any picture of this car. Anyone happen to remember taking this photo and mind looking through your archives?

  2. IMHO It is cheap Insurance. I had a speed bleeder on my C5 when I replaced the clutch so I didn't do it, but it is a easy way to help keeping swapping in new fluid for old.

As far a frequency It depends how much driving, and how dirty your current fluid is.

  3. No offense, but with "limited experience" with paint, I wouldn't try to do that color yourself. With 190k, skip the paint correction and just pull the moldings off, lower it and drive the bitch.

Because it is metallic? What is the worse that could happen? How else do you learn something new?

  4. Well.... Went out and looked at it this morning... Not sure if I will be able to make the lines line up, and the radiator support bracket is bent...

The simple bumper tear and respray may be a bigger project then I think, and something I don't think I can pull off in my apartmentcomplex/garage. Going to think about it for a few hours though.

  5. I am actually in Texas now, and am probably going to be fixing the front bumper as it is ripped, along with the drivers side fender. I will probably respray them myself. I do have limited paint experience, but think I can make it look WAY better then it does now. It's a C5 with 190K miles so imo if it looks good from 5 feet away I will be happy.

Always wanted to do some paint and body work and I think this is a good second project. My last one was painting my motorcycle.

  6. I read it too quickly. But honestly, a black front end would look stupid so I refuse to do that :p

It would look like it had been wrecked and odd-ball parts were bolted on the front.

    Sorry.

I was meaning the front end... I am not the best at making up idea's and color schemes so I figured I would ask. I am repainting my front bumper and one fender, and the idea to do a two toned job came up and in my mind it seemed ok, but had a iffy feeling about it. I also HATE the black in the fender vent too after seeing it. I do see my door molding being removed very soon though, that is sexy!

This is why I have my GF match my clothes for me. I fail at matching lol.

I see repainting it with the factory color now, unless someone throws out an idea I feel like I could accomplish myself.

  7. I have a c5 with some paint issues and planning to fix them. I am debating a two toned paint job VS the factory one coat. Thinking about doing black on the front to where the doors and front fenders meet. Can anyone Photoshop this scheme to see how it looks? Anyone have opinions? Added a few photo's for different angles Not sure witch would be easiest to change.

  8. So, I have a 2002 dodge cummins that I recently bought. Been doing some work to it to fix it up. Tried to pull the transmission and relapse the pump seal as it was leaking and found the torque converter stuck on. We managed to get it off but when we tried to reinstall it it was stuck back on. I ended up sending it to a transmission shop.

Told the shop the issue and to look at it, and they called me back a few days later telling me it was welded on and the while transmission needed a rebuild. That being said I was kind of planning on getting a rebuild anyways as I rather only drop the transmission once.

So they rebuild it. call me halfway through to tell me the flywheel and rear main seal need replaced as it was leaking. Not a big deal, even though I knew the rear main wasn't really leaking but figured I better go ahead so it wouldn't leak later on.

They get the transmission in and call me again telling me the motor is knowing. I show up, listen and hear a rapid rattle sound. I didn't think it was knocking and knew the motor wasn't before. I am pretty stern in saying that but they insist it was the motor. They called a diesel specialist to come listen and he said the injection pump looked new and was probably out of time. They called me, said the motor is knocking, but we can send it to this other shop if you want. I said can I just come get it and they said sure...

Showed up to get it and they were laughing at me kind of. I go out to the truck, start it up and hear the clacking more now that I am on the driver's side and it went away with a little bit of gas, I could only hear it at idle. I was not sure if it was something on the TC like the bolts hitting something, the new flex plate they installed, or something inside the transmission. Sounds more like transmission noise personally but who am I to know. Took it for a test drive and needless to say 5 miles away a big noise and transmission fluid is dumping from the front of the transmission, it is at this point pretty obvious that the transmission they installed is fucked up, and they tried to get me to spend more money on the wrong shit. I called them and told them that I think the noise was their transmission as it is puking transmission fluid out. They send me a tow truck immediately

At this point they have it at their shop. Is this a good idea? I have a 3 year 75000 mile warranty. Should I worry about them trying to tamper with the evidence? Is this more neglect or an accident? Should I at least hit them up for a free oil change for my inconvenience?

Sorry for the long rant... kind pissed, grammar nazies will have a field day with this.

  9. so basically in the past two months my vette has been hit in the parking lot, and my motorcycle was stolen.

While moving is an option, this shit can literally happen anywhere. School, work, any apartment complex Ect/

Looking at dash cam setups... Seems most tech is for 2 channel cams front and back. My thing is if I am going to be running 2, why not 4 so I can also catch assholes who open their doors into my car (this happened in december)

Anyone running a setup like this? Any advice on cammera's? I drive the car almost every day so battery drain is not a big deal. Though for my truck it may be as it might sit for a week or two at a time. I am thinking about also putting these in my truck to help overview my car at home.

  10. Glad it worked out.

Definitely ditch the sponge and move to these 480gsm MF Towels. You'll thank me. Did my entire car in the garage this morning with only 4 of them. Spotless 10/10 results.

Drying wise, blot, don't wipe. At least and espcially on the first pass. Get 2-3 larger MF drying towells. Then pick up some 16x16 Griots Garage PFM Terry Weave Towelhttp://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/autogeek_2270_81. Mist those with Uber mixed in a spray bottle and always use them damp. Give the car a final wipe down and you'll be done. Safe and perfect.

Let me know if you have Q's.

So I am washing the car, Blot drying, then basically going over it again with the uber mixed as a quick detailer? Spraying on the rag and not the car?

Also, I know you showed the uber creamic coating stuff.. but that is super high dollar (150) I think. Have you over used the opti coat? They seem to have good reviews on the auto geek. It is the same stuff/idea? Any experience with it? http://www.autogeek.net/optimum-opti-coat.html

  11. Haha! I have. I like his vids but like Chem Guys, he takes forever and a year to sum up things. 20 minutes on how to clean your windows....in a video! I have short attention span theater syndrome. :o

The wet drying is why I like the Wolfgang Uber Rinseless product. You can dampen a towel with it one you've blotted the 95% of the water and then use that damp towel to add gloss and safely wipe it. Any trace particals that could scratch the car were likely removed during the blotting phase and IF any remain, the damn rinse towel will protect you. Good stuff.

Try the Uber rinseless and mix it up as a detail spray, 3oz to a gal and use that. I can send you some if you want just PM me an addy. I have a gal of it :)

I feel the same way. I never used the above Rinseless product before and when I finally did things "clicked" for me. Meguiar's D114 is like that too. Some swear by it. I'm going to swap some W. Uber for D114 with a local guy so we can each try the others products. $5 says I'll prolly end up with a new purchase after :p

Used the Uber rinsless wash today at the car wash. Basically rinsed the car off and got some water for my bucket, used a sponge from lowes (reccomended sponge from autogeek.com) and did a quick wipe down, then finished with another rinse and used a chamois to dry.

Car looks great! I do need to get in the habit of a better wash technique though. I am going to try yours in the future. I need to look more into drying than anything.

  12. Wow, that was a great post. I will look into the wofgang kit... I just bought the rinsless wash and want to try it. That sprayer is fancy, but pricy.. I am going to stick with the two bucket for now as my paint is very very crappy, and the car needs a repaint anyways due to a few spots of damage. Though I am trying to get into a better care habbit incase I ever do repaint it!
  13. I am getting some new rims for my vette, wondering what I should do to protect them?

Simple car wax? Some type of wheel sealer? Opti seal?

I live in an apartment so washing is out of the question. I normally take a bucket to the spray car wash and fill it there, use my own sponge to wash off the car then rinse it with the car wash sprayer.

  14. Anyone do it? I love my c5 but it is starting to look dated, and the style of the c6 is pretty nice compared to it. I also like some of the creature comforts like heated seats, keyless starting, MP3 player supports and stuff...

Guess I am torn right now between dumping money in my c5, with 180K on it, or offloading it before it blows and upgrading to a c6.

  15. Nursing school is a good option . always have job can find a job anywhere.make great money great hours. Do whatever makes you

    Happy.life is short.

I know you said no to health care, but nursing (specifically critical care) is like being a mechanic, only with people and infinitely more complex. I thought it'd never be something for me. I went from being a heavy equipment mechanic to nursing and the thought process on troubleshooting is very similar.

    Just a thought.

I used to say that I would never do health care.

Passes my Nclex yesterday and start in the neuro ICU next week. Also found a cute younger girl with good morals and will also have a nice paycheck!

  16. So I live in an apartment, and recently had an incident where I would like to have a video camera on my cars just in case someone decides to do something to them. Are there decent wireless/motion activated/anything that would work decently?

I have a few options where I can put it. I always park my Vette between my motorcycle and truck to prevent someone from hitting it with doors. I could put a camera inside my truck and have it point towards my vette.

I also could mount it up in this corner

    http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f374/tindall2006/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_0496_zpshwuzzxod.jpg

This is about the view I would have. Sometimes people with larger cars and trucks park there and I am not sure how that would block my view.

    http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f374/tindall2006/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_0497_zpsbbhkmh4x.jpg

I could try moving all of my cars to other locations, where they are visable by a window or by my balcony and mount a camera there.. but trying to keep that spot would be difficult. There is also more passerby traffic leading to accidents.

  17. I bought a clutch for my vette for 230?

I did some research before and found out luk was the same brand that supplied GM...

Anywhere else wanted 500 plus for the exact same clutch.

They have a lot of OEM parts branded in their original name. Just takes a little research.
