  1. Okey-dokey. Lemme see here -- there are 6637 members of this board -- using my slide rule, I see that 15 percent of that is about 990 members who will understand what I meant (only 2 significant digits). Let me write that down with my fountain pen on some scrap parchment so I don't forget it ... http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/Slide_rule_cursor.jpg
  2. I was riding through Sunbury tonight on the Ducati and stopped by the shop. Even though it was after-hours, they were still busy working. I talked to Corey for a few minutes, and he said he was in Cincy yesterday with his dyno, tuning cars (I believe he said around ten cars) for another shop there. So tell Henny-penny and Turkey-lurkey that Slowmotion Motorsports is open for business. Oh, and mention to them that the sky isn't falling either.
  3. You and your family must be very proud of him. Thanks for relaying his story.
  4. I'd say you came to the right place to learn. Lots of members here drag race regularly and about all of them are willing to walk you through the process. I had my first trip down the strip in (Scott) Cordell's Camaro a few years ago. Also, there are many excellent sponsors of CR who can provide good advice and take care of tuning/dyno/mods if you need them at some point. Just ask around. There's a CR track day this fall, grudge racing about every week at Marion County (numerous members here go regularly), and there's even a current thread for a few guys from here going tomorrow to National Trails if you're interested in spectating/possibly riding along on a run. I hope you'll take advantage and attend some events.
  5. Welcome,* Matt. Great looking car. What types of meets/events are you interested in? I think CR has about everything: motorcycles, boats, jet skis, auto cross, drag racing, rallying, drifting, ricer fests. *illustrating the importance of proper punctuation
  6. And how did you know I was a Wu-Tang Clan fan?
  7. Oh my. I'm not sure which is more frightening--the photochop or the thought that you very well might have spent your entire day creating that. I also think that we need to get you to an art therapist to help you explore the latent issue that your "cloud formation" suggests.
  8. Three photos sent. Thanks, Tim!
  9. The brave little Viewt will not be daunted by your obtuse scoffing.
  10. Sharp Audi, Greg. I'd never seen it.
  11. My photshop skills are pretty limited. What I'm looking for is a good sig for another forum I'm on. I entered the Viewt in the 2011 Appalachian Rally, and I would like to have a sig photo of the Viewt that would strike fear in the hearts of the competition .... something intimidating, terrifying. Not an easy task considering we're talking about a Viewt here. In fact, we're probably talking about some cartoonish conversions just barely based in photographic reality. If you PM me your email address, I'll send you the RAW files of the photos I took at the car show yesterday and you can have at it. There's no hurry for this, and I'm willing to give you some gas money in exchange for your time and creative effort. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/poster2.jpg not very scary
  12. A very good time. Many thanks to the organizers, helpers and sponsors. Haydocy was a great place to have the event. I enjoyed meeting some new folks and getting to catch up with old friends.
  13. From the tone of this thread, the weather's not the only thing that needs to "cool down a bit." It's all good, though. Sam, you're a good sport. We definitely need signal lights next time you, Carl & I run in Canada.
  14. Some of the CR members at Cars & Coffee this morning mentioned that this had an early start time and was just a few miles from where we were at Block's. So about a half dozen of us headed over early before it got hot. It looks like it's going to be a great show. Lots of vendors, good variety of VW's (buggies, funny cars, restored classics, campers, tuners). If you are out and around you might want to consider stopping-by. Cell phone teaser pix: My favorite: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/2010-08-14095835.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/2010-08-14095851.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/2010-08-14095908.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/2010-08-14100023.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/2010-08-14100611.jpg Unrestored Citroen Coca-Cola car: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/2010-08-14100539.jpg
  15. You need to give more advance notice. One day isn't enough. (j/k) Let's hope for good weather. It should be a blast.
  16. The Century's been feeling neglected lately, so I'll prolly run'er thru the BP car wash to get most of the mud and gravel off, and then bring her there.
  17. Kewl, Brian. It's been a while since we just kicked back and talked. I'll prolly have dinner around 7 p.m. but will stay until dark at least.
  18. For those not heading over to Heath for Mopar tonight, there's an alternative: Fast & Furious @ Quaker Steak (Polaris) 7-10 p.m. mostly ricers/European cars, sometimes a good crowd of 60 or so, sometimes only 20. Nice to hang out on the patio and eat dinner. This is also an every-other-week happening and has been posted on CR in the past. Maybe see you there
  19. Cole, as mentioned above, Saturday night there will be grudge races at Marion County International Raceway, about an hour from Columbus. Here's the thread if you want to follow who's going: http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83657 You don't have to grudge race .... you can just go as a test & tune if you want, or spectate. It's more fun if you go with people you know, so if you decide to go, you may want to ask people on this thread if you can go with them. There's also a Saturday morning, stand-around-and-look-at-cars thing that a few of us on CR go to. It's called Cars & Coffee. It's at 8 a.m. every Saturday and this week it's on the east side at Block's Bagels. Here's the thread: http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83586&highlight=coffee Tonight (Friday night) there's a gathering at Quaker Steak in Polaris which is sponsored by another group, but a number of CR people attend. It's @ 7 p.m. and we meet on the patio for drinks and dinner. I'll be at Quaker tonight and Block's Sat morning. If you go to either, I'll introduce you to some CR people so each party can see that the other ain't as bad as he thought.
  20. Congrats on the sale. Although I hate to see you leave the area, I know you're moving for all good reasons and that moving back to Hawaii is something you and your family are looking forward to.
  21. Wow. I guess someone left the oven at 500 degrees again. There's nothing wrong with Cole. He's no cop .... he's no ricer. He is just what he claimed to be--a college student from Chicago working in Delaware on a summer internship before he goes back to OU. He didn't have pics of his rides ready to upload because he thought it wouldn't impress anyone. Yes, he should have read our many rules of the oven and realized how seriously everyone takes it, but he didn't. Perhaps a few of our more esteemed members should glance back at those rules themselves, e.g., Welcome posts aren't chat rooms Don't go offtopic in someone's welcome thread - this isn't an AOL chatroom. Keep discussion on point and civil. Noobs that break this rule are likely to get negative rep, making it harder to get on the board. Regular members that break this will get infractions. Since he was at work when he realized how urgent it was to post pics, he came over to my garage on his lunch hour to take some snaps, but as luck would have it, his camera's powerpack was dead. So I took a couple of snaps of his DD for him to post before his intro thread goes to 20 pages of fail for no good reason. He's just working his way through college, looking for some way to break into the car scene in central Ohio. Yeah, he'd like to practice drifting on a track. He had also looked into driving on Mid-Ohio's course, but was put off by the cost and hoped to find some people who would go as a group. He'd rather work on his own cars than pay someone, but wants to be around people he can learn from. He's just an average, easy-going car guy and not a champion keyboard gladiator like a few already in CR. If it takes more than that to join CR, maybe it's too exclusive. +rep Good luck Cole. Pleasure to meet you. I hope they let you in.
  22. Your point's well-taken. I hadn't considered the "outside the cylinder" bulk of the motor as a major factor, but as you point out, it's a very important one. I guess it's in a more aesthetic sense that hp/L achievements appeal to a non-technical mind like mine. I marvel at the technology that extracts more and more power from a relatively small combustion chamber. But I agree with you, it's not the most important factor in the practical world.
