  1. Have you forgotten that this is Fast & Furious night at QSL? I'll be there at 7 in the WRC. Tough day saving lives ... blah, blah, blah .... need to throw back a few and have some ribs out on the patio.
  2. Bump, since this is happening again tonight (June 17th). Two weeks ago it was kinda fun. Maybe not worth a trip from Columbus, but fun seeing a few CR folks and seeing a few different cars. As mentioned above, it's free. If you register you're given a bag of gifts (actually a few nice ones, especially for kids), $5 off coupon for the restaurant, discounted hot dogs/drinks, free root beer floats, and there are door prizes (I won a nice portable chair last time). There were only about 25 cars last time, but it was threatening to rain. Stop by and say hi if you're out and around.
  3. 307 cubic inches (5L) is what I calculate.
  4. Interesting turn of a phrase, Scotty, seeing that you're talking about a BOAT. BOAT = Break Out Another Thousand Good luck with the search!
  5. That's okay, Eman, I've recently gotten engaged over the internet. This is my fiance, the future Mrs. Doc (the fifth). Her name is Kitten Kaboodle and although we've never met in person, we both realize that we're soul mates. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/drag-queen-holding_42-19673749.jpg She's involved in some sort of live theatre -- I didn't quite catch everything she was telling me. But I've told her she won't have to work after the wedding. And the best part is that she says she's pretty good with heavy lifting around the garage .... tire changes, motor swaps, and the like. She just made me promise to never drop the tranny .... seemed kinda odd, but WTF. So I figured I'd be saving on some car maintenance and repair costs in the future. I can't wait to bring her to Cars & Coffee so you can all meet her.
  6. From the looks of the weather radar, Cane's at 8 might be a better meet up for the CR boat crew than it will be for cars. On the bright side, there's a chance for some clearing later in the evening ....
  7. Well, Paul Walker drove a Skyline GT-S (dressed up to look like an R-34) in 2 Fast 2 Furious; I think that is what's being referred to. I'll be happy to share with you what I know about the problems of importing. Just come up and ask me about it sometime at the track or at a meet. And to the guys giving the OP a hard time ...... he's just asking for info, okay? It's a car forum -- it's okay to ask. A number of you guys have asked about cars/projects that you never followed-through with. Relax.
  8. You have let us down, you really have. I am so disappoint. This news has ruined my whole week. I think you should give $50 to everyone who posts to this thread, as a way of making-up for your miserable fail. I know you've got the cash ...... you're debt-free now because of Dave Ramsey. (yes, I can break a C-note)
  9. On his website, click on the category "slimline pens." Then choose a wood you like or get one in Corian. These will run around 20 bucks, then use the code for the $5 discount. The pens are very light and durable, but handmade. If you don't want to buy over the internet, just email Jim and meet him at his house and he can show you what he has in stock (saves shipping time, too).
  10. Welcome to CR. + rep for building and financing your project yourself .... not many at your age can make that claim. Any other photos of the car? Plans for it down the road? I hope you make it out to the track day and to some of the other events.
  11. I posted a thread a couple of months ago about a friend who has started selling handmade pens and pencils made from exotic wood, acrylic resin, Corian, and shell casings. A number of CR folks have either been given pens or have purchased pens from him. Here is the original thread: http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79056 and there are many photos and descriptions of the pens on pages 1 and 2 of that thread. If you're interested in buying a pen, I encourage you to take another gander at the original thread. He finally has a website up and running, although he's just now starting to get some of the photography done to show-off his products. Numerous CR people have asked for the web address, well, here it is: http://www.custompencrafter.com He tells me that he has over fifty pens in stock ready to sell (although he doesn't have many photos yet on his website). He can also custom make a pen in time for Father's Day. His prices begin just under $20. Anyone from CR ordering by email or through his website can use code CPC0610 for $5 off the order. He also has every type of gift box, from plastic, leatherette, oak, maple, rosewood, you name it. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/new%20pens/group.jpg I just picked up another pen from him last night. It's a really big pen made of Buckeye Burl. The quality and workmanship are amazing. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/new%20pens/buckeyeburlonwhitepad.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/new%20pens/buckeyeburldivided2.jpg I thought that in case some of you guys hadn't yet found a good gift for Papa or needed a quality pen for yourselves or your spouses, this would be a good opportunity for you to save some money and get a unique, high quality product. If you have questions, his email is jdegen@columbus.rr.com and is also on his website.
  12. Beautiful photos, Dr. Rick. There's nothing like a little R & R. That last photo made me ponder the question: Is it better being on the consumer hamster-wheel in Central Ohio or being homeless in Paradise (Although I realize that that man's Hawaii probably isn't the Paradise it looks to be from our perspective.)
  13. So, if I understand your original post correctly, you're moaning because there weren't more people around to beat your boosted Civic and take your money? That really is a shame. When you're out and about again next year, pick a dry night and bring a fistful of cash and I'm sure a few folks can oblige you..... in Mexico, of course, since street racing isn't legal here. On a serious note, stay safe overseas and come home whole.
  14. I hope it stays dry in Reynoldsburg for you. Unfortunately for me, it's raining heavily in Delaware right now, so I'm gonna haveta miss this one.
  15. Polaris is getting rain right now, but it looks as though it's going to pass right through and be dry for at least a few hours afterwards. West of Columbus there's an eastbound cell of heavy rain, but it just might stay a bit south of I-70 ..... hard to predict these pop-up storms. I'll probably head down to QSL at 7:30 or so to see if anyone from SICC came out, then may head down to Sonic if the roads are dry.
  16. Ummm, this thread was in reference to May 28th. I can already see some readers getting confused. Perhaps a new thread about the MCIR events with a date in the title?
  17. Oh, excuse me, sir. I take it then that you're spending yet another Friday night hanging out with Les & Abbie at M in Miranova tonight?
  18. Consult the consummate guide to sushi in Columbus: http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74710
  19. And this is the question you chose to ask me .... the most interesting man in the world? http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/dosequis_interesting.jpg
  20. There's always QSL Fast & Furious for you, Paul. That's tonight at 7 p.m.
  21. But think about your strategy for a moment, Bill. As "numbers" go, the number 4 is really not that powerful. Just sayin' .....
  22. Whoa! It freaked me out when I saw the pic. My old roommate and his wife bought what appears to be the exact house just a few years ago on Timber Oak in the Lakes @ Powell. They love the floorplan. I'm sure you will, too. What a coincidence You ought to drive by their place and see how your house looks on a different lot.
  23. Been here about an hour with the Century. Dry so far
  24. A car I always admired, but have never found affordable, was the Grand Mercedes (also known as the Mercedes 600, or Mercedes Grosser, or Mercedes W100). These are for sale at astronomically-high prices in pristine condition, or just moderately-high prices for the "money-pit" versions. They were made from 1963 through 1981 and were the zenith of German engineering. Complex hydraulics powered the windows, seats, suspension, hood, trunk and even power passenger door operation. When Potter's Mercedes was still in business in Columbus, the service manager told me that the last hydraulic system repair they did on one cost the owner 50k, and that was back in the late 80's. They made a short wheel base version: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/Grand%20Mercedes/shortwheelbase.jpg A Pullman version, for when you wanted the party to travel with you: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/Grand%20Mercedes/Mercedes-Benz-600_Pullman_Limousine.jpg And of course, a landaulet, because somedays you like the top dropped: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/Grand%20Mercedes/LANDAULET_--_-bigb.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/Grand%20Mercedes/1971_Mercedes_Benz_600_LWB_Pullman_.jpg It's my idea of the ultimate in cars, the must-have if you're a rich car guy, a pope, a ruthless dictator, or just Jack Nicholson. Who else owns/owned one? Coco Chanel, Hugh Hefner, Elizabeth Taylor, John Lennon, George Harrison, Aristotle Onassis, Elvis Presley, Jeremy Clarkson (owns 2), Josip Broz-Tito, Fidel Castro, Pol Pot, Saddam Hussein, Leonid Brezhnev (owned 3), Kim Jong-Il, Idi Amin, Ferdinand Marcos (had 4). Iran's Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi owned over a dozen of them for his family's use. Also, if you're looking for another one of the best cars ever made, I'm told that a certain Columbus celebrity is disappointed with his new Maybach Zeppelin and wants someone to take over the two-year lease. It's 10k/month, but I'm sure his people will cut you a deal.
