  1. I'm glad you finally decided to throw that boy-toy of yours to the side, and upgrade to a more .... a more ..... mature man, a man of the world, someone who can lavish on you all the fine things that a lady of your sophistication deserves. Would you like the Lotus top open or fixed for your evening drive, my darling?
  2. Tim, your photos look great! Thanks for posting them ..... we look forward to seeing more. -Doc
  3. I asked myself, "How is it possible that Ashley could become even more beautiful?" But you are. Truth is, most of us are too intimidated to talk to you now that you've proven you're a better driver than most of us.
  4. Thanks to all of you for showing up and for the kind words. I enjoy letting people see my cars, getting in them, sometimes even driving them ... It was great to see people meeting together who previously knew each other only by their posts. I thought it was a good mix of CR's old and new, and a good cross section of ages and backgrounds, all enjoying cars. It was a bit like the Cars & Coffee crew meets Polaris Midnight marauders. I was happy to see that some rode their bikes, and obviously, at least a few of you can really ride! I was pleased to see that many of our CR sponsors and mods/administrators could attend. They are the ones who make this all happen. I hope you got to speak with them and thank them for their hard work (and not just for a weekend, but 365 days a year). Assuming an average of two sandwiches per person, we fed 90 people. My great niece and her fiance were there for the whole event, and they counted 150-160 people total for the day. I'm sorry I didn't get to meet more of you and talk to you more, but I hope you'll come back again or at least introduce yourself when you see me at a meet. I appreciate it that you made the effort to attend. As you can see, there is plenty of room to host a larger gathering. The deputy sherriff said that he saw no problems of any kind and the city cops stayed away, as we had requested. The landlord and his wife attended (they were the ones who test drove the Bentley) and were very pleased with the event and told me they enjoyed meeting the CR folks. Everyone was respectful and safe, and I really appreciated that. I think that parents were comfortable having their children at the event. There was only one pop can left in the parking lot after everyone left  and no messes anywhere. This confirms what most of us already believed: CR folks aren't the "problem" at the public meets. Many thanks to all of those who helped with the event. Anthony and Brian C have worked with me since February on this event (which I originally thought would occur in late March or April). Brian and Val actually volunteered to handle all of the food, but as I postponed the event their work schedules made it impossible. CR sponsors were all very supportive. A special thanks to Corey, Wyan, Steve, Eric, Brooks and the Slowmotion crew for their hard work having the dyno for us. Their day began early--picking up the trailer, loading their equipment from their shop in Sunbury, transporting it, setting it up, working all day, then repeat process in reverse. They stayed an hour longer than agreed, just to get you last few guys dyno'd. Very kewl. Wagner was great help, all through the planning process as well as showing up at noon to help with the last minute preparation. He also took care of the trash cans during the event and kept an eye on potential problems so I could spend time with the guests. Thank you, sir. Jeffro came out to the garage the day before and helped with cleaning and setup. I hope that our photographers got some good shots of this one side of CR and that they get the chance to share some of their photos in the next few days. Thanks again to everyone for supporting this.
  5. All CR members and their families and guests are welcome. It's a big place ... I doubt there's going to be a problem with too big a crowd. Remember, the event is spread out over 5 hours, so I imagine there'll be a lot of folks coming and going. The kickball field alone would hold about a thousand ....
  6. Hmmm. I guess I can cone-off a reserved spot for you in the gravel at the back of the complex.
  7. Absolutely. The lot is blacktop. It will be a bit tricky using the step and doorway directly into the shop, however, it will be a breeze coming around to the opposite side of the shop and using the big door when you want to come inside and see the shop and cars. I think the restrooms can work, too, but if you need to have the chair lifted up over a barrier, I'm sure we can find some able hands to assist.
  8. It don't matter what you're driving there! Heck, I'm driving a '97 Buick to the open house. It'll be good to see you again. And you still haven't seen the WRC yet, have ya Bill? We couldn't have asked for a more glorious day. I hope everyone has a great time.
  9. Glad to hear you're all planning to cruise up. You're welcome to park anywhere you'd like, but there is reserved motorcycle parking at the very front of the building as you drive down the entry road. It's got curbs all around it and is in front of building #100. I thought you might want some protection from cars backing up, etc. The Can Am Spyder will park there as will the Ferrari or Bentley. Motorcycles are VIP RESERVED parking at my parties.
  10. Sharp car, and welcome. I hope you can make it down to some of the events, or meet up with us for Track Day at Dragway 42.
  11. I posted this before, but I think it gives you the general idea of what even two inches of snow does to a Lotus on stock tires:
  12. Closed Circuit City for starters ???
  13. click User CP on far left side of the blue heading, just left of "My Albums"
  14. Hi, Tim. We met at the Gearhead Gathering. Glad to see you're joining CR. Hope to see you at more events. Great vehicles. +rep
  15. You're obviously confused ..... this is a car site, not a gay bar.
  16. Hey, Grant! Glad to see you finally joined. Car looks great. You'll prolly get sunk for mentioning that you know Farkas, but it's the chance ya take. + rep
  17. Sharp car! Welcome. Looking forward to the other pics.
  18. I hope that it's a fun event for all: kids, spouses, sponsors. It's really not very well organized ... I've just asked friends to help. The trick was getting a weekend without CR conflicts that was also good weather. CR sponsors and mods have been great about helping, and I hope that more of us get to know each other. If that happens, it can only be win-win. Because my landlord is such a great guy, my place is an easy place to host an event. It seems like we always need restrooms/food/a place to get out of the sun/wind, a safe place for the little ones to play, plenty of space to park, room to get away from the crowd, etc. This spot has all of that, although I wish the fields were a little softer and plusher--they're kinda hard, but I doubt that the kids will mind much. Special thanks to Wyan and Corey for providing the dyno. I think it's great that some members on limited budgets will get the chance to dyno their cars. It's also good business for SloMo and the other sponsors who want to meet more potential customers. I hope that the prospect of a free dyno will bring out some of our members who might not attend otherwise. The tab for the whole event is not that high, and it's a small price for me to pay for all the fun and friendship that CR folks have provided me over this one year that I've been a member. I'm afraid I can't give you any advice on your car, I can't help you fix your car, I can't help you move stuff or push your car at the track, but at least I can buy you a sammich and give you a place to park your car and meet some like-minded friends.
  19. Google is your friend, young grasshopper: http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/97/1329/Motorcycle-Article/2009-Can-Am-Spyder-SE5-First-Ride.aspx
  20. Thanks everyone for the kind words and support. The forecast still looks good, so keep your fingers crossed. Some updates: MAG is still a "go" for a new Ferrari or Bentley, but expects to arrive a little before 6 p.m. Mike Finneran, one of the high-line bosses is bringing the car himself, on his own time, as a favor to me. He is very knowledgeable about Lotus, Aston Martin, Bentley, Rolls, Ferrari, and Porsche, and if you're interested in those cars, he's the man to know. If you're seriously considering buying or leasing one, he can put together a test ride and whatever else you need. Max Hinds from Hinds Motorsports is hoping to have the Can Am Spyder there for the majority of the time from 3-8 p.m. Despite his age (which I think is around 20) Max has some very impressive finishes in AHRMA racing. He and his father, Jeff, have received favorable coverage in the big national motorcycle press. SloMo hopes to be ready to start dyno runs by 3 or shortly thereafter. They didn't say how long they can stay, but I imagine they'll start packing up by 7 p.m. They will arrive by noon to start their prep, so it's going to be a long day for them. Wyan and/or Corey will be deciding the scheduling, so please do what you can to assist them and please don't be bugging them for extra pulls or adjustments that they aren't set up to do. They are doing this as a favor for us. I'm sure they can help you with more advanced needs at their new location just off I-71 in Sunbury. If you can't get your car dyno'd for free Saturday, please see SloMo or one of our other CR sponsors to get some time scheduled at their shops. I've used SloMo, IPS, Pickups Plus Cars, and Dynotune (DynoBrian) services--they are all good and I can vouch for them all. City Barbeque is providing pulled pork and/or smoked turkey sandwiches, corn pudding, and potato salad between 5 and 6 p.m. If it looks as though we're running low on food, I'll supplement with pizza. If this doesn't appeal to you, feel free to bring whatever you'd like to have. There is also a McDonald's right down the street. You can bring food to share if you like, but I'm limited on table space, so don't feel obliged to bring pot luck. I thought we ought to keep things simple with the food. John Howald, the owner of the property, has said he'll be present and will be available to meet with anyone who thinks they might be interested in renting some of the available space in the industrial park. Those of you who can't arrive until late, don't worry, I'm not closing shop at 8 p.m. You're welcome to come inside the garage and see the cars. I just wanted to have most of the activities shut down outside by dusk, so as to not put kids/pedestrians at additional risk. (There is some light car traffic through the industrial park even on Saturday.) Most of the CR sponsors have contacted me and said that they are planning on being there with cars/products. When you see a sponsor or a moderator Saturday, be sure to thank them ... they make CR possible for the rest of us freeloaders! Any questions or concerns, feel free to post to this thread, PM me, or phone me. Check the opening post of this thread for the basic info. I hope to see you Saturday, and I hope you have a great time!
  21. There's plenty of field in the front. As long as the r/c cars are safe around kids, I don't see any problems. Also, there is some packed gravel, but it's close to where the cars are going to be parking and where other renters park, so we would have to play it by ear. I'd say bring 'em! :ta:
  22. The area where we're having the event is paved, as is the entrance. Quite a bit of the complex just has gravel, though.
  23. Well, "the monuments and all that stuff" could take up quite a lot of your free time if you enjoy history or government. The Smithsonian alone could occupy a year of your time if you wanted to see it all. If you look through http://www.washington.org you can find updated listings for what's going on and there's a free insider's travel guide. Right off the bat, I'd get used to using the Metro, maybe even get a good detailed map of the city with the Metro stops marked. I enjoy exploring the shops and cafes of Dupont Circle. Even if you just sit near the Circle for 10 minutes, you'll see a parade of every type of person you can imagine and see a few that you couldn't have imagined. It can be a great month for you if you get out and explore.
  24. There is a new thread on this event. Mods, please lock this old thread so that people don't get confused. Thanks!
