CR NEWBIE Meet & Greet...Saturday, July 11th (Still on)
Doc1647545523 replied to FourString's topic in Events
Well, at least we had our two hours worth of dry weather. It was good meeting you Tim (Overclocker) and Zac (M1114) and seeing the rest of the usual suspects as well. I'm thinking that the Meet the Newbs cookout in August should be a lot of fun. Maybe see a few of you late tonight if the roads dry out. -

CR NEWBIE Meet & Greet...Saturday, July 11th (Still on)

Although weather is notoriously hard to accurately predict, it looks to me as if the front is passing and that we'll have at least a few hours of dry weather starting around 4 p.m. I may swing by QSL around then. If I'm soaking wet when I come through the door, feel free to laugh. Despues de la lluvia ...... -
Thanks to Kevin at Clifford Automotive (360IROC) for helping me out with the Celica GT-Four WRC. It had a number of paint problems, most notably about one fourth of the wing had had brake fluid or something similar sprayed across it and it ruined the paint. There was also chipped paint along the entire width of the hatch edge, and a big ding in the driver's door. Kevin got the car right in, did a perfect match, and had the car ready for pick up the next day. Where he painted, you can't tell it from factory. And he charged much less than I was expecting. Many thanks, Kevin! A wing with this much bravura needs to have perfect paint http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/wing.jpg

Once again, Mike (SilverxxxMike), Bryce, and the crew of Wheel Medic did an outstanding job for me. This time, the RENNtech chrome 20" wheels on the Benz needed some repair -- there was road rash on three of the rims when I bought the car, and then I managed to add some of my own to the fourth wheel. Mike suggested sending just the rings of the two-piece wheel to California to be re-plated and chromed. He also helped me select the Falkin 452's to replace the worn Giavannas. While the RENNtechs were off the car, Mike sent me to a different shop to get Mickey Thompson ET street radials to mount on my CCW wheels to replace the worn Nittos. Even though Mike sent me where I could get the lowest price, Wheel Medic did all the servicing. First class! The RENNtech wheels came out perfect and the tires are a huge improvement. Once again, Wheel Medic went above and beyond my expectations at a number of steps in the process, and the price was very reasonable. Many thanks! http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/RENNtech.jpg

It has a 1.3 L (CG13DE) DOHC 16 valve. The Japanese version made 83 hp. But it'll still be the fastest Viewt in central Ohio :zoom:

You know you want it, Erik. But you can't have it. Besides, an LS1 wouldn't fit in it anyway. [cough]red light[cough]

Hideous is definitely NOT an option! (it came standard)
-
Awww, aren't you just the cutest little guy? Come and sit on Uncle Marty's lap and let's talk about what we can work out for you .....
-
Good point. Perhaps that option can be added. I guess I count "cute" votes as negatives. And I totally agree about the interior. :barf: But I have a plan ...... a plan for a few MODIFICATIONS!
-
Cute has jumped to an impressive early lead, I must admit. Well, at least your wives and gf's will talk to me at the meets, seeings how I have such a cute car. I promise to park it away from the real cars. (And, I still really love the looks.)
-
I'm thinking that's a shadow, not a stain. The inspection seat showed a fabric scratch on the driver's seat, no other problems. I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read the word "splooge" in your post.

I've always loved the look of the classic Jags, especially Mk II and Mk III's. However, I have no patience for the expense and unreliability of British cars from that era. Enter Mitsuoka, a Japanese car company that rebodied (mostly) Nissans with classic and neoclassic style. Some of their creations are to my eye hideous, while others I admire. I fell in love upon first seeing their Viewt, a Nissan "March" rebodied in the Jaguar Mark II style. For months I've been threatening to buy one of these, and today my car broker informed me that I had the winning bid on this 1994: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/viewt002.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/viewt003.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/viewt004.jpg The Japanese inspectors have promised that the car is in the same condition as my Toyota Century was when I bought it at the same auction, with only minor paint work to do. It will take me about two months to get this car into North America and to jump through all the hoops to get it legally titled and registered to me in the U.S. I admit, I'm taken by this car. But it seems not everyone is so smitten ........ A certain CR member, who will remain anonymous (but who is known for a certain ridiculous oil cooler sticking out in front of his 1980 Corolla with lines routed through a headlight shell) is, of course, envious, and wants to rain on my parade, saying that everyone will call this car "cute" I retort that any enthusiast with even an once of discernment will instantly recognize the classic style and beauty of this retro. So, I put it to you: is she a classic beaut or just cute? Mods: is it worth a poll? Flame suit: check

I've had super service at the NTB stores associated with CR: Derek and crew at E. Long and Fourth Street (they also have let us use their lot) Steve & buddies at NTB Canal Winchester (they also let CR have a meet and the burnout contest last year) Now I gotta add to the list NTB in Reynoldsburg. Scott (ND2RACE) did a great deal for my niece on her SUV tires .... even told her that she had some good life left in the old tires and that it wasn't critical to replace the tires yet! But she wanted new tires because her betrothed uses the Liberty on the highway. They are both thrilled with the improved ride and feel that the new tires made. Many thanks, Scott! U da man!

Impressive numbers. Welcome to CR.
-
if there is, it's likely to be a hotly-contested category

Welcome to CR. One of the better intros this week. Love the car.

Lotus ..... um, with sedan mods.

For making that appointment, you now qualify for an upgrade to our special "White Glove" customer perk at no extra charge! "White Glove" care means that after careful detailing by our expert migrant staff, your precious car will be parked on the side of our shop that has pavement instead of in the gravel lot where we usually park our customers' cars.

Nope, but still drunk from last night. A box of white castles and a couple of cigars will get me back on the road, though.

~~ Austin's official Western U.S. hunting trip thread ~~

You must be wary, wary quiet when you are hunting wabbits ! -
If it's raining, and you pull under the bed of the semi, and then it's technically not raining on your (now) sheltered car, but there's water from the road spraying from the truck's wheels so you keep your wipers on, THEN, do you still have to have your headlights on? Good luck enforcing that one. But I'll betcha it happens soon, prolly to someone from CR.

Thanks for the photos! I'm sorry I couldn't make it out to this. Looks like a pretty fun time.
