  2. Yeah for sure. My heat exchanger is absolutely as large as I can go unless I want to start cutting stuff. I dont think adding more coolant capacity beyond what I have will do too much unless everything else gets bigger as well. My temps yesterday while driving around were pretty good with the new intake. I noticed that the temps seemed to come down more quickly after heat soaking say at a light or after a short stop than previously. My IAT's ranged around 110-115 around town. So still quite a bit above ambient but I think the a/w setup is naturally gonna keep them higher than an a/a setup once everything gets hot. But under heavy load its able to keep things nearly at the same temp. I was beating on it a bit and rarely saw IAT's above 120*. So Im happy with the setup for now. Regardless I never did the a/w for efficiency anyway, it was always for packaging limitations.
  3. Its tough to get exact comparisons with IAT's as the environment always changes with driving, etc. But, before the intercooler tank I would often see IAT's near 140* with in town driving. With the intercooler tank it was more often to see temps around 125*. Im hoping with the intake to get them closer to ambient under normal conditions. Every little bit helps. The colder the air going in the colder itll be at the intake. The a/w seems to work really well under boost regardless as I barely see any rise in temps if I make a pull say in 3rd gear. Im hoping to drive it the next couple days so Ill get an idea how its working. Even though its not quite as hot as its been I should be able to see where they average.
  4. Haven't updated in a while so I figured its time. The truck hasn't been driven a lot just because its been so hot and I haven't really gone anywhere but work lately. Anywho.. I finally found a cheap intercooler tank that worked perfect for what I was trying to do. I think its from a supercharged mustang? I just added a L bracket and bolted it up and swapped the hoses around. It definitely has helped with IAT temps by roughly 15-20*. I need to pull it and paint it. I got impatient to install it. Nice tank for like $70 bucks While looking the truck over driving to find the source of my vibration I found the engine mounts collapsed and the shells sitting on them. I ran to Advance and got some new ones and threw them in. A PIA job with everything I have going on in the truck. After driving the truck my vibration actually got worse. This led me to believe I actually still had a drivetrain angle problem. As the new mounts brought the front end of the truck UP, making my ujoint angles worse. I called Troy at Countryside up in Johnstown who's a customer of mine. He agreed to look at the truck. I dropped it off and he called me a couple days later to inform me my angles were way off. I had been using the tremec app with my phone which showed everything was in spec but after talking to him and retesting with a manual angle finder I realized my u-joint angles were really high. The problem is I can't lift the rear of the trans any higher due to the trans sitting against the bottom of the cab and the driveshaft doing the same. My axle sits above trans so the driveshaft angles up toward the rear. So we did everything we could with what I have now and its significantly better but ideally I need to order a 2 piece driveshaft so we can split the angles up to get good operating angles. Ugh sorry for the book. I think that'll be a good winter project. In the mean time I decided to build a cold air intake for the truck. The engine bay gets so hot it doesn't make sense to have the turbo sucking in all that hot air. Should help again with IAT's. Im pretty stoked with how it turned out. I started with a flat piece of 22-24 gauge steel. Only other major problem with the truck is the A/C. For whatever reason the truck all but stalls out when the clutch engages. I can turn the clutch by hand with the truck off. I adjusted the IAC bump in the holley and it doesn't seem to help at all. I thought maybe my pressures were too high so we pulled some freon out of it and it still doesn't work right. Im not sure what else to do other than swap the compressor. So I have one on order. If anyone has any other ideas I'm open to suggestions. And yes I know I still need video!
  5. I think this is budget dependent. And then how nice of a car do you want to start with? Im just talking out loud here but what would have to work with the stock gauges aside from the fuel gauge that the Holley wouldn't monitor? Or you want to be able to keep the stock gauges? I think I would jam a 7" Holley display in there. For me I think I would look for a E39 if I wanted a cruiser car. An E90 if I wanted something smaller and more nimble.
  6. Thanks for sharing. I think I would have burned the camper down on the side of the road. Props to you for keeping it together.
  7. For sure. If you go any further with the power on these they become hindered pretty bad. Its a really fun car as it stands. With winter tires it does really well. With that said the car that replaced it is awd. Attaching a better picture of how nice this color is when the car is clean and detailed. I havent had time when I posted the previous pictures.
  8. Just bought a new car so this has to go. Ive owned it for just over 3 years and it's a great, fun, reliable car. Currently at 111k miles Sprint Blue Pearl (1 of 25 made in 08 in a 2l 6 speed) 18" OEM wheels with good DWS tires APR turboback APR hpfp I assume APR Stg2+ software (software was installed before I owned it) Neuspeed CAI P3 gauge For those that dont know, all these manual 2L cars are FWD. Not all wheel drive. Timing belt, waterpump, spark plugs and valves were cleaned at 99k miles. This is a really clean car and I hate to sell it. It needs nothing. I just changed the oil today. It drives and sounds great. The drivers lower seat bolster leather has seperated but could be repaired. The aux in has never worked. And sometimes the hu reboots randomly after being on for a few hours.
  9. I mean there's really only one possible answer.
  10. My dad has a 68 rs/ss thats been sitting for 35 years in storage. Id love to do a basic build on it but he's far to picky and weird about how it would be done. He wants a complete factory type restoration which the idea of bores me to death. At 60 he still thinks he's gonna restore it. Itll never happen.
  11. I was really happy with the ridetech kit for my truck. Their service was really good as well.
  12. Wow. Thanks for sharing. A friend of mine recently moved to Montana and he shares similar pictures. They love it there. We are going to Oregon this year so maybe next year we'll plan a trip somewhere in Colorado and do some trail riding.
  13. That sucks to hear that stuff from the Dr. Ive been taking 5000iu of Vit D and Im still deficient due to my stupid crohns. Hope for the best for you guys.
  14. Thanks for the update Shaun. Glad its not gotten any worse for you guys.
  15. I think Ive decided to hold off on buying one. The excitement has dropped even in just a few days on the thoughts of spending that kind of money for a toy that I can't take out without planning a week or 2 ahead. Id be $20k deep by the time I get what I want, buy an alumni trailer (X1 would be the hauler) and get spare wheels, tires, accessories for both. Ill told the wife, we can go on as many trips as we want in the text couple years and if we spend more than a couple thousand a year on renting one then I think its worth buying one. I just dont believe that will happen, just because #life. It cost nearly $800/year to insure a new one plus the trailer. So I could spend that for a weekend rental and still not be in the rear. I may still may part the BRZ out, sell it and the A3 and get into a nicer daily that could do a couple track days a year instead of having a dedicated car that sits all the time. That would clear up some space for another "project" which seems to be what Im always looking for anyway. who knows what Ill do..
  16. honest question, you think your $1900 tracker would have made it through the same hole?
  17. Dang, debby downer. I thought I held that title. :-P Anyone who rides these things and doesn't strap in is an idiot. They come with really good belts for a reason. And yes, for some reason drinking is a big thing to do while riding these. I like to drink and to ride but not together.
  18. If there's a place to ride there is typically a place to rent a machine. Im not an expert by any means but I think the most common places within about 6 hrs would be, Hatfield Mccoy trails Rush Brimstone Silver Lake Dunes If other peeps have places to ride, post em up.
  19. Nothing about an aircooled rail buggy screams SPEED to me. :-P They are cool'ish I guess. We saw quite a few up at Silver Lake a few years ago. They even rent little homemade ones with small engine, engines in them. They were turds.
  20. For sure. All those things are similar in nature. I just have to adjust my way of thinking a little.. My wife is ALL about the idea of dumping the BRZ which she hates and getting a SxS. She is the responsible one so there must be something to it. I think it just depends on the type off-roading you want to do. I like speed so Im not sure something like this would fit the bill. I think I could buy a lesser version SxS and do similar things to a small vehicle like this if thats what I wanted. But your right the street ability is nice. I just think once you ride something that has 15-20" of suspension travel its hard to come down from that to a stock vehicle type suspension.
  21. Yeah for sure. Ive been doing HPDE's for over 10 years and recently find myself looking for reasons not to go. Along with the last couple times I ended up going by myself because friends backed out. I enjoy being "on track" but that just becomes so limited now a days with all the run groups and lunch breaks, etc. Everything outside of just driving has just become a hassle to me. Along with the fact I seem to get rained out 50% of the time. I can get the same rush in that RZR 1000 and go whenever and wherever for as long as I want. And yeah you'd think they were all broke d*ck until you see their trucks and trailers all over the place. Nice folks down in those parts.
  22. I agree with everything you said. Thats why Im trying to talk myself out of buying one. I know I would just burn money with it. I will say though, I have more fun riding off road than I do driving at track days with my BRZ. The BRZ sets most of the time as well. Seems crazy to trade one for the other but its something I might consider. I rode at Brimstone a couple years ago and enjoyed it there. Ive heard about Rush just havent been. Ill sign up for one of those FB groups. I figured there would be some good deals to be had. I actually probably shouldn't but I will anyway.
