  1. +4 always had great experiences with Chevy/GM. The trucks are great, though I do like the inline 6 Fords. Everyone busts on GM but many companies do stupid things and have shittier vehicles and/or major problems.

If the vehicle doesn't have rack and pinion, idler and pitman arms are known to go bad especially with cheap replacements. Happens in Ford and Dodge trucks. Get Moog or TRW OR Napa parts (not the low end cheap Napa parts, as they tend to have two levels of parts).

  2. Its called business. I've warned him it is unknown what will happen if rebuilt and junkyard units. So that is why I suggested Jasper since he will at least get a good warranty on it. I am not doing anything till I get that trans and check it out. I'm going to check for signs of the blue covered bolts, oil jet kit, check inside for burnt gear, and get history of what dealer has already done before I tear it open. I think he understands everything I have told him. So just waiting for now. Plus I basically work for Honda, might be able to get some of these R&D guys to help me.
  3. Virtually all BMW inline 6 especially with super sprint exhaust like mine had. But same engine with side exit and no cats is sick when on throttle, and same engine turbocharged open exhaust. Yum! But i also like 350z with certain exhausts or just muffler removed. The 3.5l Honda gives off similar tone with muffler removed.
  4. Maybe I missed it, but did he pay through paypal? If so, remove any money from your paypal account before a claim is filed there. I bought a turbo off eBay and seller claimed it was a new turbo. It looked brand new in the pictures, and when I got it, it was far from new. I told the guy I wanted a refund for false information, he said no. Filed a claim with paypal, and sent them a repair quote on the turbo of $800, and paypal said I had to mail it back at my expense and once returned, a refund would be made. Yeah guy got his turbo back and ditches his paypal account. Lesson learned, haven't had a problem since.

But I would also wonder if the guy is a shady ass if he was asking about a refund just days after shipping. But I wouldn't account for his neighborhood. Good people can be stuck in bad areas. Hopefully proof of shipment works out, but does it even show any part of the address on the receipt?

  5. Yeah, the guy told me the original was replaced. 6 months later, it went out again and he had to pay the bill. This last one, I am not sure how long it lasted. He went back to same dealer he bought it from, same one he always went to, and they said he would pay full bill for another trans. This is all he has told me. So he took it to another shop to see what they said and they wanted to drop a used trans in it. He told them to wait, shop pulled trans, and now he has his car apart and wants to see what I can do. I mean the car is down in Columbus, and I am up here in BFE. But I told him not to get a used one since it will be unknown what will happen.

I want to help the guy out, but its almost like a damned if I do and damned if I don't situation. All I know is, he is bringing me the trans sometime this week I believe (while I also have to figure out why the IP completely went out on his van) so maybe I will have some updates maybe pictures of it.

  6. I have warned him I am leery of rebuilding since the cause of failure isn't quite known. Honda adds a oil jet kit to get fluid to second gear, yet trans have still failed after this. Epiphany...........thinking back to what he said is wrong, it drove fine till trans heated up and then didn't want to move. I believe he said this happened a couple times, so I don't think its the recall failure of second gear this time. I am starting to think its burnt up clutches. Honda has had issues with transaxles not being able to handle power, so guess I just need to get that trans and see if it is the clutches. Of course I am not sure if the engine revs with no movement, or if he means trans locks up. Really wish I wasn't so focused on the recall then putting the pieces together.
  7. That is my thought too. But it will be a bit hard to convince him to spend nearly $3000 for the Jasper unit when I could rebuild it for about $800-$1000, parts depending, out the door. Unless I have to install it, then both prices go up. I keep trying to push the whole warranty thing, because I have no clue why they keep failing. Seems even after jet kits are installed, the trans would still drop second gear and even lock up. I would honestly love to know if a 2010 or newer trans would fit it. lol, we had some issues with them, but they kept going.
  8. Good to see Kenton is still representing the ricer scene well.

Well actually, the owner of the car doesn't live here. It came from Indianapolis like that. But this town is full of them, especially due to Honda plant being down the road. Go out to MCIR on Friday nights, and usually can find several of them out there.

Andy, no. Kyle needs to stop buying these things! I am always fixing them. He has this thing about buying riced out cars because they have a turbocharged engine. The first car he bought was a 95 Eclipse GS with a Hahn Racecrap turbo kit that had neons and stickers all over it. I stripped it bare and only used the turbo and manifold from that kit (since the kit was horrid and cheap), made my own fmic, and ran megasquirt on it.

  9. Possibly going to be rebuilding auto trans from 2003 Acura TL. I have a guy who has had the car into the dealer twice for replacements, and they made him pay at least once for this recall. He had trans replaced by dealer, then 6 months later, it failed again only to them making him pay for it. Well it has gone out again and a family friend referenced me to him. The guy wants me to rebuild it, but I am unsure about the second gear in it and why, even after redesigns, that trans still fails. With the uncertainty of whether trans will last after the rebuild, leads me to want to install a Jasper unit so he has their replacement warranty. So has anyone dealt with one of these transaxles before?
  10. Wow dude that sucks! When I was 21, I had a brand new 07 Cobalt (full) and my 95 Saturn (liability) and insurance was cheaper then that. Not initially, two accidents (not at fault, drunk driver and dumb girl on cell!) and two 13 over speeding tickets had me paying out the ass for a while. Turned 21, and priced dropped a lot and dropped when I bought the BMW.

So like everyone else said, shop around. Get to know the agents too, because that can be a big factor.

  11. Dont touch that car!!!!!! Gabe must buy it and drive at least 75 miles a week to retain his CEO of Troll inc title.

Too late. Raiden already lost his arm and is fading away. I could slap the fenders and fascias back on and have primer fascias, one fender primer, one fender in red, a silver trunk/spoiler, and rest of the car all scuffed up. Would that work.

I have to say, Raiden is a hard guy to kill. Really sick of dealing with the car. The guy who painted it before cleared over the stickers and put like 10 coats of clear on it. So have those nice dips from sticker removal and get to sand like a mad man to level it. Bout to just sand it, paint it, and say fuck it. Needs to be media blasted and that wont be happening.

  12. I hope that quote is from multiple vehicles and possibly one on full coverage. I personally switched from Nationwide to Progressive since they cut my payment in half with some extra coverage on the vehicles ($0 deductible on glass).

But I will say, Nationwide did seem to do fantastic on claims. The guy we dealt with just asked for a quote from where ever the work would be done, and cut the check. Then I would do the work. Unfortunately, most insurance companies like to find places that will do the work for a good value to them. Maybe not the cheapest work, but not the best.

All I can say is, I have had great from Nationwide, but tends to be more expensive. Might just have to go around to local agents, get quotes, and then talk about how their claims work and who would do the work.

  13. I haven't cleaned interior since I went out to the GM show in Carlisle, PA two years ago. I got the same price to be in the field as going in, so why not? Better parking spot! When I fix the suspension and do the rear disc swap, I will get it cleaned up.

LMAO!! I figured there would be a thread about that car. My friend is not good with buying cars. He thought someone would love to have it because the engine and, do I say it, paint job. All the kids around the neighborhood flocked to my house when it sat outside and wanted it. Since then, I get kids driving by my house in their POS cars making a shit ton of noise bothering me. So it sits in the garage now, but I have to tear the doors off soon to jamb it.
