  1. I’m happy with what I did this year. The Firehawk got a new 9 inch with 4:11’s. Then I had the front bumper, rear bumper and side skirts repainted after 20 years and 90k+ miles.

I replaced the tank, fuel pump, sending unit etc in the 89 formula and it seems to be doing better.

For 2021, I have new set of TSP heads and cam for the Firehawk. I really want to work on the 89’s paint this year. It has 30 years of rubbing on it and needs the paint corrected.

  2. I was referring specifically to "home defense insurance".

As you say carry outside the home is more complex. You need to know the laws and what to say to the police even with insurance. I'd also much rather choose my own lawyer (Derek DeBrosse in my case) than trying to find one that accepts the insurance.

Putting money towards an emergency fund is way more valuable than paying an insurance company for a situation that is extremely unlikely to happen. This isn't like car insurance where you will probably have a claim eventually, it's like shark bite insurance. Holding that money yourself you can earn interest and use it if needed the million other more likely situations that could pop up. Paying the insurance the cash is just gone.

Yup. Dereck D and Steve Palmer are my first calls if I need a lawyer. I was circling back to the thread title and combined thoughts.

  3. Ohio has the castle doctrine, seems like throwing money away.

It depends on how you look at it. I recommend everyone read After You Shoot by Alan Korwin. It’s a great read and will really make you think about what happens after an event. Even if you do everything “right” you will likely still be spending some time with the police and need legal representation. If you have the funds for that then no worries. But most people don’t and legal costs can cripple a family. There are a bunch of differences options, USCCA, Second Call etc. The biggest advantage I see is having a network of lawyers that will work with you and the up front cash to pay for bail and retainers if necessary.

People who are considering it can offset some of their risk by educating themselves. Read and know the laws. Know what to say if you call the police. Have an emergency fund with enough for bail or retainer. Know the name of the lawyer and memorize her/her number. If you don’t carry outside your home, the likelihood of needing the coverage goes down. But if you carry outside your home, there are a lot of external forces you can’t foresee. Good luck and thanks for reading.

  4. I read an article on the ammo shortage and it gave 1 reason. The article said because of covid mines shutdown which helps create the shortage.

It stated the largest , or maybe it was on of the largest, ammo suppliers in the world has a 1 billion dollar backlog of orders...YIKES

I have not heard anything about this. It makes sense. Can you post a link? Thanks

  5.

I'm sitting on around 1k 9mm and components to load about 4k more.

The trick to avoiding an ammo shortage, is to never be short on ammo in the first place :)

Yup...after the last 22 shortage, I decided I wouldn’t need to worry about it again. I go to LEPD and they said their range business is down considerably due to no one having ammo to shoot. It will probably be at least another year of this.

  6. I just might take you up on the offer. It will be a few weeks as I've had a cast on for almost 2 months and have net walked in that time. I'm getting it off this week and we'll see how pt goes.

Thank you very much for the offer.

    Sounds good.

  8. I went through Wheel Medic and they used PVD chrome on my Firehawk wheels. I have 2 sets of wheels and the original set of chrome wheels were pitted and pealing. The other set was painted. Wheel Medic would not use the Chrome set but did use the painted set. The end result is great. But I do not know if PVD would be an option since you have to strip the old chrome off.

CalChrome advertises a lot at car shows but I have never used them.

There is also a place in eastern Ohio near Cadiz I think but I forget the name. I called anyone and everyone I could find when trying to get my wheels redone. Good luck.

  9. Casting takes a while but I can reload most of what I need.

I figure stocks won’t go back to “normal” until next year.

I’ve been asked what should I buy by several people recently. I tell them they missed the boat and now are going to pay more and wait in line if they can find what they want. A friend waited 2 hours at Vance’s recently. No way I’m doing that.
