  1. This sounds like financial advice written for and by millennials who are also trying to keep up with the Joneses. You should go start a blog, you could probably make a ton of money at it.

No it’s actually from Dave Ramsey. Maybe give it a listen. The point is to not over spend. Too many people spend a ton of money and then pay more in interest for 7+ years when they should have bought a $2k civic. My newest car is a 2011 that I paid cash for. I am sure I could finance a very nice car with crazy high payments but why? For more gadgets I have to have my kids explain to me? Nah I invest heavily now and don’t care what other folks think of my cars.

  2. Thank you again for all the added comments.

I thought long and hard over the weekend:

The next few weeks I am going to look at credit card offers. However, I will only be putting a tank of gas once a month on what I get and pay it out prior to the end of the billing cycle.

Otherwise I have resigned myself to save, save, save for what I want to purchase. Yes this sucks in the age of instant gratification but I guess I can appease that with hookers lol.

I think hookers only take cash so you are good on that.

I have read and listen to a lot of Dave Ramsey. I don’t agree with 100% of his teachings but most is sound common sense. Check a couple of his books out or watch some YouTube. He will give you some basic guidelines for how to make what you have go a long way and how to save. There is also good advice on what to look for when finding a financial advisor, saving up for a house etc. Again congrats on getting out of debt!

  3. According to Credit Karma you average credit account age should be over 7 years. If you decide to buy something on credit, even if it isn't in the near future, you can't get a few 7 year old accounts in 6 months.

Right but the primary reason for a high credit score is so you are eligible for a loan or big purchases. I asked the OP if he was planning on making a large purchase in the near future. If no, then go slow and build it up over time. You can only have one or two revolving credit accounts and still have a good credit score. But when you make big changes it takes time for it to come back.

For me personally, once I got out of debt I try not to use it more than I need to. It is much easier for us to budget and plan for big purchases. But we also have an emergency fund for those Oh Shit moments. Our A/C and Furnace took a dump last summer. It sucked but we got it replaced and worked to rebuild our savings.

  4. I am going to get shit for this but why are you worried about your credit score right now? Are you planning on buying something big in the near future? If no, then don’t worry about it.

Congrats on paying off your debt. It is an awesome feeling. Now you can pile up cash and invest. Without debt and more money you shouldn’t need to borrow so the credit score will not matter. I have one credit card and a debit card. I use the cc for online purchases and cash or the debit for everything else. My credit score is good but I am not planning on buying anything I need credit for so I am not worried about it going up or down. Good luck.

  5. At this point I do not have any new purchases planned but since I like neat old stuff you never know.

Since I am casting and reloading my main calibers, I just need some extra supplies next time I go to FFF.

I do plan on taking some more classes this year. Unfortunately the carbine class I was signed up for last week got cancelled due to not enough interest.

  6. True. The only thing worse is when people don’t fully clean off their cars before they set out.

This guy seems like he’s doing it right, though.

I saw him on the way to work this morning. I work right near Henderson and Dierker.

  7. I remember talking with Bill S a long time ago about it. The containers will also be used as apartments which can be modular. It’s certainly not for me but they need to do something with the land.

Maybe they can put some below ground too and advertise living in bunkers. You know there’s a market for everything nowadays.

  8. Several have sold and I can’t update the original post. These are what’s left with updated prices. Thanks.
