  1. Ever get it Dyno'd or run a 1/4 in it? Sounds very similar to what I'm looking to do
  2. What did you have an engine out of and what did you have all done to it? One thing you'll learn about me, I have impecable timing
  3. Have to say before I started looking down this path I had NO idea of what all can be done to these things. Whatever happened to just doing basic bolt ons turn up the boost and go fast? I guess another question that needs to be answered is what do you run for tread on these things? If you can put down enough power to run low 12s or even 11s what kind of wheels/tires have you used for the street? Prefer to keep whatever it is as stock LOOKING as possible and most of these lil 80s monsters came with 15"s on the back...so staggered set of 15's? 15x7 in the front 15x9 in the rear?
  4. How do these things sound with that kind of exhaust? I realllllly can't stand the high pitched scream of civic types...makes me do a twitch and feel like I'm back in the "Fast and Furious" days. I realize they aren't going to sound as deep hearted and pure american sex as a V8 but what pipe/muffler combo comes out sounding best?
  5. Maybe I'll bolt up a duel exhaust from a Mustang GT like a lot of the V6s around here, that will make me feel more at home. I have no problem with a little 4cyl old school being "quick fun nimble" or "sporty"...I just have an issue with it running down my car that gets half the gas milage sounds much sexier and gets the chicks. There's just something not quite 'Merican about that. Not saying I won't enjoy the hell out of it and pimp it old school with Converse hightops and tube socks though. Couple project cars in mind...haven't made a firm decision yet though.
  6. I guess maybe I just have a mental block that these things can be fast. Can't imagine for such a small motor, for such a small cost, I can completely destroy anything else I own in a straight line. And then get 30+ MPG when I'm not flogging it
  7. Lol I seriously doubt this lil 4 banger with tiny tires in the back and retro sexy will want me to get away from the pure redneck sex appeal of the Syclone...but if it does I'm sure I could find a buyer or two.
  8. Oh I'm already learning my way around turboford.org and stinger. Totally different beast than what I'm used to but my ears are ringing with potential. Had you done a T5 swap or do that on the T9? Hard to believe just injectors, better spark, and more boost on the stock turbo in one of these little things can wipe the floor with cars designed to be so much faster...but I'm digging it!
  9. It's not the one that's from Advance on Sawmill, know THAT driver and truck personally. Not typically what you would see get yanked for a joyride but stranger things have happened. Hopefully they find the truck and it hasn't been hurt badly
  10. Yes but you know those handy little computers that output codes so we can figure out whats going on? In the mid 80s...and with lots of upgrades...things don't work quite so easy.
  11. Oh I've been YouTubing away lately trying to figure out what to do, how far to go. Seems like you can get some pretty decent performance out of these things without a ton of money. Just doing some homework before posting the official project thread and getting started. Not sure I really need a terrible 80s car that runs 10s...but...well ya never know :dumb:
  12. Ya I've never built anything like this before, done old school muscle, newer V8, TT V6... never an old school low tech turbo 4. As for how far we'll BUILD...we'll see. Anyone have a 3 bedroom 8 car garage for sale cheap?
  13. Not to hijack this thread but does anyone know a Notary open on Saturday afternoons? Columbus north end or east side
  14. Oh I haev the terrible feeling this thing will be visiting you guys more than once and will be yet another excuse for me to spend vacation/house/boat/food money on go fast stuff. Seems like a pretty decent power plant from what I'm reading just kind of a pain to cool at times. Now...which toy to work on first...
  15. Gonna take a guess that thing is either not street legal..or an absolute TERROR to drive. Not exactly what I'm looking to build, but at least it shows whats possible
  16. What an awesome unique project! Clearly something you thought about before diving in what was the inspiration? Pretty sure I've never seen anything like this before but very interested to see the progress!
  17. What were you running for spark/fuel or was this a stock setup beyond what you have listed here? Intercooler or no? Not really looking to turn this thing into a purpose built drag car but hopefully something still streetable/reliable that runs a 12.xx sounds good to me.
  18. There are ones to find out there, usually however they have been used abused and turned into drag cars/drug runners. But hey, they are out there Maybe you could use one as a work truck and use it as a tax write off? At this point this is gonna be a "project lowbuck" what's the most fun/fast I can get out of the least amount of money....and hopefully not blow things up.
  19. Stock Turbos have huge heat issues from what I can see and the battery tends to get cooked from the heat. Not the mention the turbo sits about an inch from the exhaust which doesn't help keeping things cool so I can certainly see that. Happen to recall MT/AT? Guessing he was running slicks to hook that thing up?
  20. Hey thanks Wagner, another excuse I now have to pour money into gofast parts on ANOTHER project. And yes 10phone I now find myself joining still more owner threads! Joy be!
  21. 12.5 on the stock turbo? Good lawd! Any idea what kind of supporting mods were on it? This is going to be my venture into something forced induction and this "low tech" but it seems like there's certainly potential.
  22. Beyond funny but actually true. Especially since I don't have Typhoon its a Syclone Ain't goin no where other than my garage and a car show or two any time soon. Still less than 20k origional miles ..
  23. I know there have been a ton of destruction issues with the cameras, people hitting them, cutting them down, shooting them with paint balls, etc...just imagine how much we the tax payers get to pay to fix the damn things! Unfortunately most things in government if it don't work or gets broke...pay more to fix it!
  24. Anyone built one of these up into something much beyond stock? Finding myself with a new project car, or 2, and considering doing some kind of build up of at least one of them. Of course I am speaking of the 2.3 Turbo ford motor. Details to come.
  25. Oh, this doesn't EXACTLY belong on this thread but this morning omw into work I heard the new numbers on traffic light cameras. In 2012 Columbus made just over $2,000,000 on traffic light cameras which we are now up to a total of 38. That's more than both 2010 and 2011 combined. Just another thought
