  1. Not helpful to the question, but on a Tacoma you can easily replace the springs with no compressors at all...just drop the LCA down and its pretty effortless.
I wondered about doing it that way, but never have. They aren't bad at all, but we were installing 5100's so we needed to rebuild the coilover assemblies.

  2. We've talked about these before. Last night I survived using these once again, to install a lift on my buddy's Tacoma. The safety pins will never fit over a spring that I have to compress. Every crank you have to wonder if it will be your last, a ticking time bomb that you and your good friend are voluntarily holding to the shop cart. Eventually I get impatient and put the impact on them, lol.

There has to be something better. What have you found?

  3. I dig the set up. Also creates some back yard privacy sitting back from the house a little like that.
That was definitely taken into consideration. It was a toss-up between not blocking the view of the pond when you pull back the driveway, or gaining a bit more seclusion in the backyard. Honestly didn't have much choice for placement, 2.5 acres goes quickly with a house, pond, and shop.

The kids spend a lot of time in the backyard, so I don't hate that it blocks them a bit. We're going to plan a bunch of trees on the other side of the yard this year.

  4. Boy, thats close to the pond. Looks great though!
Yeah, as you can see, my building size was pretty much determined by the area between the house and pond.

The idea behind the "retaining wall" is to build up some earth there in order to drive my zero turn across.

The foundation is 12' from the house and about 8-9' at the closet point to the pond. Hoping to get about 6-7' of dirt flat enough to drive the mower across.

  5. Finally replacing the siding on our house and going to have to repaint the whole house. we have some ideas of what we would like but not sure how it would match in with the natural stone of the house. Does anyone know of a place we could pay to do a color consult? I had Buckeye painting out to give me a quote and they will do a color consult once you agree to the quote. The problem with the quote is it was 2-3K higher than everyone else I had out but they were the only one that does a consult.
I'm not sure how intricate they are, but have you tried any of the Sherwin-Williams or home Depot apps where you can apply the color to a picture of your house?

  6. Paint Protection Film aka PPF or Clear Bra is indeed what you want. You can do a "bikini cut" where the leading 18" or more is done on the hood or you could spend a bit more and do the whole thing. What's best care wise will depend on the hood shape and if it's prone to chipping.

Costs will vary depending on how much. Here's a link to the gallery of my wife's CUV/SUV and a pretty all inclusive coverage of it.FULL Hood

    • Entire bumper/front clip
    • Bikini Cut on the Fenders
    • A-Pillars
    • Leading edge of roof (in front of sun roof)
    • Side Mirrors
    • Headlights

Costs will likely be in the $900-1,200 range.

Product Wise, there are a number of well known brands and some high quality lessor known ones. I have been using the latter, Premium Shield and their EliteBrand. Top notch, SUPER Clear and SUPER Glossy. Dare I say it rivals what I do via detailing and ceramic. Very noticeably better than many other brands.

You're welcome to stop by today as I have that 911 I'm doing with XPel on it and my wife's right next to it. Premium Shield is noticeably better all around.

I use a local friend I've known for nearly 30 years, Julious Poa. He does work for dealers and local installers on a contract basis all the time. Like me however, he also does it on the side via cash and offers significant savings.

I rave about him as his work is top notch. All free-hand custom cuts. That means no cheap templates thus NO VISIBLE LINES. He wraps ALL Edges so you can't see them. He stands by his work too. I've personally used him on at least 8 cars and he's done over 25+ likely closer to 50 of my referrals.

I'll text you as I do owe you a call about getting some scratches out of the Rover. Just been slammed in my day-job but I'll get you taken care of ASAP.

Tim, how do you think the clear bra areas affect the "shine" of a detailed car?

  7. Very cool. Dumb question, why do they lay the 2x4's horizontal on the walls?
Tractor is correct, though I'm not siding with metal. It'll be Hardie siding, lap on the front and board and baton on the other 3 sides and false gable.

Those are actually 2x6's on mine, it puts the framing flush with the inside of the posts, so I'll have flat walls once insulated and finished.

I'll be adding a vertical brace in the center of each section.
