what size monitors are they?

yeah, i wish the light came on so she could get it scanned for codes. But unfortunately it hasnt.

Wow, seems like this car has nothing but problems for my gf. Well today she said that the car just started to sputter out of nowhere. She said when shes just driving normally everything is ok until she brakes and is at a stop light. She has to give it has to keep it running and it idles really low. When she starts driving again it sputters, and after that it will be normal. Shes telling me all this so im not sure what the exact symptoms are. No CEL/SES light. Just seems like when shes slowing down to a stop it idles irratically. its a 97 with the northstar motor and has about 150k miles on it. She said it stalled on her once while slowing down to a stop. She said she has gas in it. BTW, she said the oil light comes on idk if that makes a difference at all. She pulled over and checked and the oil was full. However she does need an oil change bad. But i dont think that would make a difference. All help is very much appreciated. THANKS!!!

i think it may be the alternator. im just gonna replace it. i dont wanna take a chance driving down there and it malfunctioning

and when i turn the headlights on, should i do it with teh car on or off?

so how would i test both using a multimeter? And what should the voltage be?

yeah i know. Thats what got me there. So do u think the voltage regulator in the alternator may be bad? Ive had the alternator tested by that little handheld tester 3 times and all said its ok.

so i have a 02 pontiac bonneville wiht 97000 miles. Took the car to pepboys to have them take a look at it before i went out for a road trip this week to NC and they told me 1) the battery was bad and 2)alternator was going bad So they told me the cost for both with labor would be 500 out the door. Of course i declined because the alternator on this car 3800 series 2 motor is cake as well as the battery. I didnt believe them so i went to autozone and had both tested. Of course the battery was bad so i had it replaced. The alternator is good. Well i just wanted to make sure the battery after i installed it read fine. I bought the battery at walmart. Went to autozone again and said the alternator was good and the battery was bad. Hmnm, idk what to do now. So i went to walmart service center and had them check it. Did it for free and they said the cranking amp was around 600 and supposed to be at 770 CCA. So they recharged it and now its reading 15.07. But i dont know why they need to recharge it if th ebattery is only a day old. Well im leaving to go out of town and this concerned me because i dont want the alternator to go bad when im going down to NC. I trust the tester i guess saying the alternator is good.

so the guy that was supposed to check it out never came through for her so she took it to the shop. 40 bucks to do a charge test. Found out that the terminals had corrosion on them that prevented it from starting. So they charged her 40 for that and to clean it off and put a new battery tie down bracket on and labor they charged her another 40. They raped her. 90 out the door for corrosion on the terminal. Too bad i wasnt down in NC where shes at otherwise she wouldnt of had to pay a cent. But thanks alot for all your help.

so as the ? says, what do u all normally do? i have a pontiac bonneville SLE with 97000 miles idk if that makes a difference with winterizing or not but as of right now i have done an oil change making sure all the fluids are full, and tire pressure good.

ok so u said to take the belt off first ant try to attempt to start it? Then what? Would i be able to find out how the motor locked up by that? Or how would i go about finding out if its locked up?

ok so the car wont start. Thought it was the battery but my gf called AAA and they came and tried to jump it and also tested the battery and said it was good. So he said it was probably the starter. The car doesnt crank at all. The thing is that she lives in NC right now. A friend of hers which is a mechanic says that he did some research on it bc he was gonna try to fix it and said that the starter is in the top half of the motor? Is this true? Shes afraid to take it in to the shop because they will charge her an a** load for it. Any suggestions? The car has roughly 157k miles on it
