  1. If you're willing to spend the dough the 40D is a fantastic first camera for shooting sports and action. Once you get your first real lens you'll get hooked like it's crack. Expensive though.
  2. Forgot the part about my setup... I'm shooting with a 40D. I'm hoping to move to a 1d-Mk III though mostly for the improved low light performance, hgher burst, and greater tracking ability. I'm saving my pennies for that one though. There are also a good number of L lenses I want.
  3. This one is always tough for me. So as an overly general rule no matter what you are shooting better glass is better than a better camera body especially when you are starting out. Having said that, when shooting sports or action there are definitely camera bodies more suited to that style of shooting. For example the Canon 40D is more suited to action and sports than the Canon Xti. That doesn't mean that the Xti can't do it, it just can't do it as well. Street Pilot proves that it can with his excellent shots from Mid-Ohio using his Rebel Xt. It is definitely a capable camera at a great price for someone just getting into or dabbling in photography. As for lenses you are going to want something with a little more reach. My air show pics where shot with a relatively cheap 75-300mm lens. It does alright. I bitched about not having the lens I wanted to shoot with, but with enough light even the cheaper lenses can do pretty good. Starting out I would first go somewhere like Cord Camera or Best Buy and pick up and handle the different brand cameras. It'll be easiest for you if you stick with either Nikon or Canon. Look at the menus and make sure you like how they feel in your hands. They make grips for consumer and pro-sumer cameras that allow for an additional battery, give vertical grip for shooting and give the camera a little extra to the feel. I order almost everythign I get from BH Photo or get it from Cord up by the Dayton Mall. If I were just starting out again...brand spanking new... I would probably go with a the Canon XSi kit, although you could save some and get the XTi kit. Not a whole lot though. You could also go used and save even more. You could then add the 100-300 lens to give you a bit more reach. Here's a DP review comparison of the XTi and XSi. There are a ton of decent reviews on that site as well a pretty good Buyers Guide. Recon Rat also posted a link to Steve's Digicams review page which is pretty decent as well. You are going to eventually want even faster glass which gets expensive. Better clarity, color, focusing speed....yada, yada, yada.
  4. Because you made a point of "getting an American national holiday recognized by an American employer". Tysons as a company always recognized it. This plant is the only one that switched PAID holidays. Waaahh. There was a vote, by the union members amusingly enough, with a large majority approving the change at this one plant. So 80% of the people at this plant said they were ok with the change and due to outside pressure, now it was added as an additional holiday instead. Great fine OK. Now everything at that plant costs more. Even worse this is a win to anti-immigration groups to begin with. They didn't care about Labor Day not being a paid holiday to begin with. They have a problem with those filthy immigrants coming to America and working in American plants. It was just a convenient excuse for them.
  5. When did Tysons not recognize Labor Day....a holiday most modern countries have...that isn't rooted in American tradition but rather a holiday started by Union. Yea you work you deserve a day off! Support your local union!..propaganda anyone?
  6. You want to support bigots, hypocrits and Al SHarpton style tactics go right ahead. I refuse to...like any real American should.
  7. "...many anti-immigrant groups and conservative bloggers called for a boycott..." Yea! Tyson had to bow to intolerant, anti-immigrant bigots!
  8. wow completely missed that.

  10. No idea I'm not a gear head. One of those things I'm still learning. Right now I'm only planning on doing whatever standard prep is necessary for novice at Putnam.
  11. I'm afraid of dumping it. I'll probably be waving 250's by.
  12. I'm a rookie too, first time. I've been debating whether or not I want to put any frame sliders on. I really don't want to cut holes in my plastics.
  13. OK that's too tempting to pass up Consider me 90% sure I'm going and riding with you.
  14. All 10 are considered national holidays just like Labor Day.
  15. Really then you should be bitching that they only have 8 at Tyson's when there are 10 Federally recognized holidays.
  16. Comparing Labor Day, a day that was started by a union and not unique to our country, to Independence Day (July 4th), a day our country celebrates our deceleration of independence from Great Britain, is almost insulting.
  17. Haven't seen that movie in ages. Might have to go rent it.
  18. Of course I went for that analogy, it's perfectly sound. You can't bitch about people condemning all Catholics when you do the same to all Muslims with even less justification. As for being racist, no it isn't text book racism, but it is very close to being the same thing. There are very deep ties between many religions and culture, race and ethnicity. You aren't judging solely by the color of their skin, but by a common belief system that I'm willing to bet you don't know anything about. And no racism doesn't have to be something you've believed all your life.
  19. I read that as one is traveling south and the other traveling east. Sounded more to me like the motorcyclist cruised through an intersection with the officer turning in behind the motorcyclist or the rider turned in front of the officer at the intersection. "The officer saw the driver and turned on her lights (apparently no siren) and started to travel south on Cleveland through the red light. At the exact same time, a motorcyclist was traveling east on 161 or Dublin-Granville Road (through the green light)."
  20. I was amazed that they actually got a couple of things right. BALL FLURRIES!!!!!!
  21. Sorry Fonz wasn't meant as a personal attack. It's just close to the same type of reasoning and thinking racists do use. You judged millions on the acts of a few. That would be like declaring all Catholics child molesters or are accepting of the act. Especially since it was leadership committing these acts and covering them up all the way through the chain. Over 5000+ complaints just in the US and billions in settlements and there are probably many more that never made it to the light of day.
  22. To add to that, the Somalis I don't think were the ones who chose which one to go. It sounds like they just requested it as a holiday and this was the solution that was offered.
  23. Yeah GM is shitty company so it's no wonder. It was only a matter of time. The base still employs thousands of civilians and contractors but not enough to keep the city afloat
