  2. Very cool. Yup they really are worth the extra cash if you can afford it. Glass is way more important than the body.

  3. That's right you're a filthy Noink shooter

  5. At this rate we need a photography forum
  6. Oh yeah. It's definitely my favorite all around lens right now and yah she's a sexy beast. :) There's a ton of good lenses though. The 17-40 I was just looking this morning. I can't make up my mind what I want next. I just need to decide what I want to shoot. Tell you what you can't go wrong with the 50 1.8 or 1.4 and the 85 1.8. They are primes (fixed but fall in that range and are great glass as well as relatively cheap.

  7. We're saying the same thing here I think. That's not unique at all. This is the way it is all sports/motor sports venues except when you get to the really large stuff like the NFL or MLB. I understand that and am making the point from the aspect of shooting from places that are allowed. This is the same as all the MMA I shoot. I get to shoot right up against the cage everyone else that just shows up with a camera shoots from general areas. I really like the artistic type stuff as well. I would love to get up there to shoot sometime, but I don't think I would do it for track shots (outside of common areas) to sell unless there absolutely was no other photographer there. Why waste an opportunity right? I think everyone though up there would benefit from a little competition between photographers or with having a group. You have a preferred shooter for STT, that's all good, give him first dibs on a location/locations to shoot from.
  8. Sorry a track day and race day are not the same thing. STT Trackday does not equal AMA or WERA Race. Also, (most) photographers at race events aren't selling photos like the STT guy. They are generally shooting for news or resell to publications. I frequent photography forums more than anything else and that includes motor sports. I get the best of both worlds there. It's not unique in the way it handles access. Obvoiusly I missed the point where he was somewhere "he shouldn't be"... However say I'm taking photos of 30 people from the group I'm with from a generally accessible location. Nothing special, why would I ask permission to do something like that?
  9. Thanks for all the work Ben!

  11. I don't know. I may have misread earlier posts but you're giving more info than what is being discussed. I don't remember it being mentioned he was shooting from somewhere he wasn't supposed to be. That's an entirely different situation. I sell photos to fighters and camps I take at real events, more actual race than track day situation. These guys often bring people who shoot from publicly accessible areas. I use this money to pay for my photography habit and supplement my income anyway I can. I'm certainly not going to cry about it if someone takes a better photo than I did and sells it. I don't even care if it's good enough for them to want for free over paying for my photo even if it's better. If I didn't take something worth someone paying for over what someone else could shoot from a public area...I didn't do my job. So I show up to ride and shoot some photos of my fellow OR brothers and sisters for some OR track day outing and there end up being 30 of us there, what happens?
  12. I understand that hence the "devil's advocate" part. Unfortunately this photographer mentioned earlier doesn't sound like good people and his attitude seemed "pretty uncool". Sure there are a few good reasons for having an exclusive "official" photographers group at track days and about zero for a single official photographer. Here's an example I shoot some MMA (amateur and pro) and for one of the venues I'm the "official photographer". Now this a real event were people have to pay to go and watch and not a open practice where the public is welcome in and out. I don't give a shit who shoots with what photography wise from their seat or what ever vantage point they can get. Frankly they can sell photos all damn day and it's not going to impact me one bit. Now the promoter might have an issue but that's another (legal) story altogether. Most of the time I even talk with folks that come in with decent gear and have some photog talk. At most there's one rule, don't use flash during the actual fights. If I ever find myself telling another photographer they can't shoot from a publicly accessible vantage point I deserve to my ass handed to me.
  13. Most of us were just talking about the guy who was just shooting for some friends and got hassled by the prick of a photographer there. But to play devils advocate, what's to stop someone from shooting photos and selling them? Are their signs that state something to prevent this? Do riders, guests and any public that go the track day required to sign something saying they won't do this?
  14. Well that explains it.
  15. Odd most of the guys over there didn't seem to have many if any at all. What bikes were they? Maybe they have sets for certain manufacturers that fit better than others. The ones on the bike that started this thread look like they fit well, from what we can see anyway.
  16. There have been reviews over at 1000rr.net that say they aren't that bad at all. Most people who have got them have been pretty pleased with them fit and all.
  17. The issue isn't that big of a deal. Tom's cheat method above is what I've used in the past. You can literally fix the problem in a manner of minutes once you have the boot disk and replacement file(s).
  18. If I had the disposable cash I'd be up this weekend to get it. Stupid house...
  19. ummm what IP said. Those types of assholes need put in their place. If the STT photog doesn't think all his experience and shooting can stand up to us random guys out there shooting, than he needs to pack up his shit and go shoot rocks.
  20. The problem is there are a limited number of people that have actually been on the route numerous times. There's no problem with people heading out without him, there's just a concern of those that want to travel the same route not knowing it. I've been more than a few times and heading out on my own I made a few "different route choices". No one is saying there can't be a ride without Nick, they are just saying don't expect to be able to run the normal route. That's not necessarily a bad thing though for the sake of variety, but it is a fun run that hits most of the best roads out our way. You would have to have made it more than 3 minutes to understand.
