  1. I have a projector and I think dollar for dolar you can't get a better deal for a crisp clean HD picture at 100" (which is what I have) I have been very happy, depends on the lighting of you theater area, is there lots of natural light? or is it going in a finished basement? I say Projector!

    Finished basement.

    Little to ZERO natural light.

How bad is it with the "lights on", say watching a football game and you dont want it to be to "ghey" in there?

  2. My basic question is TV vs projector

    For general comparison

    Vs Say

It claims to be 1080p and in theory you could go "unlimited" on the screen size. Lets say 70-80 for the home theater.

Is the projector as crisp ad a TV at the same size reference? I have no experience with this in a home theater setting. Room would have ZERO outside light.

  3. +1. Only reason we went was to meet Jamie Easton. We waited In the bodybuilding.com line for >90 min only for her to have to leave for another appearance when we still had probably 1/4 of the line left. I could honestly care less about the free crap which is what moat were waiting for, to me it's about seeing the people that inspire you (even for a fatass like me). 2nd year in a row we've had basically the same experience too. Left disappointed.

Why dont you wrtie her a letter? With a story like that you can spend a day with her. Trust me.

My buddie is a puclisit for a lot of these people and they love the "real life" BS. He was working with Jay back when he was winning. Met him off season. Nice guy, but dumb as a box of rocks.

  4. Went and saw Steensen on Monday and liked his approach better. He said he would prefer to do my own hamstring with something this 'simple'. Simple being I only tore my ACL, there aren't multiple issues. From talking to a ton of different people the upsides outweigh the downsides compared to using a cadaver.

I got a reference (from a friend of a friend) for Cory at Banyan Tree Rehab over near Tuttle. Saw him yesterday morning and I am planning to go with him for my pre/post op rehab.

He said my strength test all looked very good. Though I know I have some atrophy in my quad. He just wants to see my functional strength, walking and squatting, to get better. I'm still guarding, partially out of lost flexibility and strength and partially from learned habits from guarding. I can almost fully lock my leg out and have 125deg of motion in it (good leg is at 140). I have 5 different exercises to do every day on my own that focus on knee flexibility (mostly locking out), and quad strength. He expects me to be doing very well before my surgery since it will be a month and a half until then. As a bonus he says he expects that I will be doing very well by Hawaii and I should be able to do most of what I want to do while I'm there. :fuckyeah:

Funny thing about mine-although I wrecked the ACL and Meniscus-I could do everything but run comfortably. It felt unstable when trying to play ball, but I could still squat 225 for 8 without too much trouble.

Now, walking up stairs like a human is an accomplishment.

  5. You know the demographic of CR is aging when this many guys come out of the wood work with knee issues. Add me to the list. I tore my mcl and medial meniscus playing full court BB on that really thin carpet junk. .

Could they repair the meniscus or did they remove it?

  6. I ski a lot and fear this. Makes me wanna jack my bindings way down. But agressive skiing is the only skiing imo.

I also ran w a kid in college, had a meniscus tear one year during track or xc, doctor removed almost all of it, and he was still able to bang out 50 miles/week. Probably will have bad arthritis later on, but might as well beat it up while ya got it.

Thats my thing. Your not young forever. I'd rather take it down a notch now, have a bit of a longer recovery, so I don't look like a bow legge'd freak when Im 55 needed a double knee replacement to function.

  7. yes, without an ACL, you are at more risk for tearing the meniscus. 95% of meniscal tears in those over 25 are irreparable--we simply trim them out so that they don't tear further.

Yes, I was lucky mine was in a reparable area, but Fuuuu this recovery!

I don't competitively ski, bike or run, but I do ski and bike fairly aggressively. Being on the low end of that age group and considering how active I am, I'm thinking that surgery is the right route to go.

Skiing is about the worst thing you can do for knee health as it is. You have your leg strapped to a long stick (independently of the other leg) going down a hill at high speed Literally one wrong move and you will blow your shit out. I have been on the slops when I guy came down wrong and his foot was pointing towards his ass. I am sure he blew out about every ligament of value in his knee.

I for one, will never ski again-snow board maybe, but not ski.

  8. Everybody, thanks for the opinions and experiences. I've been hearing a lot of 'don't even get it replaced because it will just fail anyways and your muscles will compensate for it over time' and 'don't get an alloagraft'. I will likely go get a second opinion and discuss all options with both doctors to be sure I'm going the right route.

People who say you can compensate for a full tear over time with muscle strength dont do anything more than get off their couch and make it to the fridge. In that case, yes you dont need it. If you are at all active, get it replaced.

  9. listen to this guy (for once). everything he's commented on so far is spot-on.

    DANG MAN. Thanks I guess?:dumb:

take this with a grain of salt. i worked a summer at cleveland clinic, and spent the summer watching dr. john bergfeld (brown's surgeon). he's got to be at least 70+ years old now and has trained many, many sports surgeons in their last year of training before they went on to work for pro sports teams. he used patellar tendon every time, and taught that technique to ALL of those that he trained. people typically do what they've been trained on and what they can do well--not necessarily the best method---i'd be willing to bet that many of those teams' surgeons trained under him. not to say that one technique is better than the other---i would argue both have comparable outcomes

    triple ftw

I agree. All doctors are going to want to do the replacement they are most comfortable with. The first guy I went to was dead set on Patellar, did not want to do anything else. At the time, I was convinced hamstring was the way to go, so I got a second opinion.

I delt with the Sports Medicine director at UH,and he suggested Patellar, gave his reasons why, and followed it up with he would feel comfortable doing whatever I wanted with the replacement. I ended up using him, and following his suggesting.

  10. Ortho is suggesting Patella tendon from a Cadaver (I'm 30 so I think they typically do stuff from Cadavers at this age).

I'm going to do whatever I need to in order to make this as good as possible given the situation.

Let them take yours bro. It heals much stronger, and actually becomes living tissue with vascular regrowth on the replacement and all. Unless you do manual labor/a lot of kneeling I would recommend panatella tendon. I had unforseen complications with my blood clot, but I am happy so far with the progress.

  11. I've already asked around quite a bit. I will make sure to do my homework before the actual surgery. I have a bit of time since I'm waiting until after Hawaii, so they surgery won't be until sometime in April. No miniscus tear that they can tell as of right now from them MRI and moving my knee around. Just the ACL and some minor 'bone bruise'. Not looking forward to the atrophy and being too weak to do what I want to do for months.

What did you do to your knee?

My dad's meniscus is GONE... he's going to need a new knee at some point. :(

Pushing a Level 2 sprain (partial tear) for 3 months in an open league. I played in College, so Im a bit to competitive. It was hurt, I kept playing. Had a 6'3, 220 I was pushing him around all game and he obviously didn't like it. Had him boxed out on a long rebound and he cut me when I was on the way down with the ball. Knee=fucked. The meniscal repair is the worst part for me, limits all of my rehab. I know its worth it in the long run.

I was sold on hamstring replacement, but switched to Patellar tendon as I do zero Manual labor at work. I think ti goes without saying, but Allograph should be a last resort.

And look to the Bestfor what you should do-

    Tom Brady-Patellar Tendon

    Adrian Peeterson- Patellar Tendson

Jesus Christ, I mean Geogre Saint Pierre-Patellar Tendon.

    the list goes on....

  12. Full (acute) ACL tear. :(

BE lucky you didn't Maul your Meniscus as well. You can on your feet the day after ACL replacement, but if you have your meniscus repaired you will be off your feet 6 to 8 weeks.

I have lost 15 lbs and somehow got fatter? AWESOME. Year of ReHab here I come. I am coming around Month #2

Good luck-do your research before you make any decisions on type of surgery, and who you go to..
