  1. Decided it was time to build a shed. 12x16. Had to be sided to match the house per the HOA. Got quotes from $6800 to $11,000, so I decided to do it myself. No plans, shit tools, just grip, and rip! All in for about $1300, I think she looks pretty good. :) I got lucky and got all my wood just as COVID was kicking in before the crazy price hikes.

  2. Is there a specific line item in the HOA that you violated? Also, is the neighbor that your driveway up against cool with your driveway?

Unfortunately, HOAs are almost a necessary evils for nice, newer, family-oriented neighborhoods these days for middle-class suburbs. For all the reasons people (including me) dislike them, there are as many if not more reasons to like them if you want to live somewhere that all of the people keep their homes respectable. Sure, I want to keep a trailer, a boat, and any neato car I find in my driveway. But, I understand that I am the 1% that would be OK living in a junkyard lol. Also, I would not want all my neighbors to have a junkyard in front of their house. At this stage of my life with young kids, and wanting them to grow up in an area full of other young kids, it's a great trade-off. Add in community pools, playgrounds...ect, at the end of the day I am here for them.

As for your situation, I have played this game before. Find the specific "thing" you violated, asked to speak with the board, kiss a little ass, get a signed variance from your neighbors, and this will be taken care of without issue.

And lastly- ALWAYS GET SHIT IN WRITING. Always! That's is in life really, not just with this. I dont care what you say over the phone, send me that in an email, please. :)

  3. Or you can buy a turbocharged Busa, a race suit, and go out to a Land speed event. you won't hit 300mph but you'll be mid 200s on your own. could probably do it for under $10K too. That said, I've been 200mph on an R1 on the street and I'll probably never do that again out of sheer fright and the wisdom that comes with old age.

I have been 200+ in several different cars and bikes (some did not end so well, LOL) but I can tell you it's just different in a car. For me at least, 200+ on 4 wheels feels sketchier than 2. On a bike, anything past 160 is just more wind noise to me. I think mentally, you already think "If I go down, I'm dead anyway" so 180, 200, 220, it's all the same. There is much more mental commitment to do it in a car.

This SSC amazing for its aerodynamics more than its power IMO. Power is easy to make these days, but to have a streetcar that stable at speed is remarkable

  4. + 1 For TCL TV's. Got our 65" last year for $600 out the door. Amazing TV so far.

Those are $420 reg price at WalMart right now (or they were 2 weeks ago.

After reading the reviews, bought one. Likes it so much I bought another lol. Roku is great. TCL TV itself is great. 4k picture is legit even when streaming.

  5. No, because even with a sedan I am so tall its reallllly only a 3 door/seater. Mainly beneficial for the dog. but thats a rarity.

    Oh, tall guy?

Well in that case, add C5 Corvette to the list of options.

  6. white with a red gut is so pretty.

    Couple of things I recommend:

    - Brakes. The C3 brakes are actually pretty great (4 opposed piston calipers) but they are old tech and require maintenance to keep working right (fluid flush once a season to prevent air inclusion from the old tech seals). Wilwood makes a 6 piston opposed caliper that bolts over stock rotors and fits inside stock wheels. modern car braking for less than $1000.

    https://www.zip-corvette.com/65-82-d8-6-wilwood-6-piston-front-brake-kit-red.html

    - Induction. I love carbs but they are just fuel toilets for an engine. Consider a holley sniper if you are going to drive the car more than just an occasional weekend. Better reliability, consistent fueling, and you don't have to worry about ring wear like you do with a carb engine. Plus you get a rev limiter, the ability to run electronic fans, and if you want to go crazy - timing with the holley distributor.

    - rear hatch: If you can find it, the 1982 collectors edition had a rear hatch like yours but it opened. It was a kit made by C&C (now defunct) that GM actually used on their own cars, but anybody could retrofit it to any 1978-1982 C3. NOS C&C kits come up for sale every once in a while for big money, but if you look around you can sometimes find someone parting out a 1982 CE and grab all the hardware and hatch for cheap. It makes the car so much more useful, but it's going to take time and patience (and money) to track down the parts.

    All great info.

The PO has literally just spent $1,200 renewing the entire braking systsem+bearings before selling it. May sound silly, but it really stops like a new car!

  7. JP, would be interested in seeing some more pics of the paint job work, any interior/exterior/engine shots.

Douglas tires? Had to google those...they are in my price range. :)

This is all I have readily available.

This is after probably the first actual cleaning of the leather in many, many years. Wish I took a before pic!

  8. Thanks guys! And thanks for the info on the 200r4. Not too pressed about it yet as she does not even like taking it on the highway lol, but its good to know this is aviable.

And I agree that "all Vettes are cool" and I defiantly did not used to think tha way. My C6z smacked me hard with that dose of reality lol. I have owned a C3, C5, and C6 now. Really enjoyed them all for different reasons. Rode/Driven/Raced c2, c7, C8 and they all have somthing to offer that is pretty unique to Corevetts beyond otherr cars from their same generation.

  9.

Years later I kinda got her back. Owned an 05 350z that she loved..after owning it for a while I put it up for sale, when the buyer came out my wife asked, what's going on. I said I'm selling the z . She was not happy

    Ha! She will learn. :)

    Ls swap it.

Honestly, it runs so well now i have no desire too. Its her car, it starts and drives perfect. Thats its job for now. Another OD gear would be nice, she is pretty wound up at 75mph.

  10. 10+ years ago, I hid a ring in my wife's favorite car which was in her words an "Old School Stingray" Corvette. Specifically, this one was a 1978. If you know anything abotu C3s, they look cool, but really theya re total shit LOL. And this one I traded for a 98 Civic, so you can imagine, it was not the best, but it looked OK from 10 feet away.

Thankfully, she said yes. :) Unfortunately, that car needed a lot, a LOT of work to make nice, 10-15K ewteen paint/body/eletrical. problem is, 10k back then bought you the nicest C3 on the planet. I'm not into losing money if i can avoid it, so I ended up selling it. The wife has stuck around, but has been giving me shit about it ever since...because no matter how beat that thing was..I sold her "dream car"!

Fast forward-this year we are coming up on our 10 year anniversary, I finally found another 78 that was priced well and worth having. A perfect runner that had all new running bits and honestly just needed paint. And, it just so happens I know a body guy that owed me a favor :)

So we did the work and painted it Valloire White Pearl, and have been enjoying it ever since. Its not fast, but it looks cool and shit and makes all the right noise (tiny cam, full exhaust) and wifey loves it. This will probably be the only car that stays in the garage for a long, long time.

  11. I would consider an A6 with the turbo engine, The honda was nice but had a vibration taking off from a stop.. Seller told me they wanted to get it looked at before selling, then marked it as sold about a hour after I left so continuing to follow up with them on it but oh well..

They all do that. Mine did that. Electric assist mumo jumbo.

A6 would be a good mod.

  12. Going to check out a hybrid civic tomorrow , batteries were replaced but they are 7 years old now . Only has 120k on the clock however we shall see

Had one. It was the single most boring appliance with wheels I have ever had titled in my name.

Have you come o your senses yet? ;)

4 Door, AWD, It needs a front bumper. Go offer them 4K cash, toss on a paint matched M3 bumper for $400 and laugh at the guy spun out in his civic while you are blasting down 270 with the seat heaters on sipping Starbucks. :p

  13. Going through the long list of cars I have owned has me not excited

Been tossing around a volt , civic , sonata etc

So do you want to be EXCITED about what you are driving, or drive around an appliance? Either is OK, just looking for clarification. ;)

But honeslty an NA 2006+ BMW 3 or 5 series is fun, looks great, has 4 doors, and is totaly bulletproof. If you can find a crack head deal on a turbo car, do it! But expect a heavier matinance schelue.

For example, there is Zero Chance I coose a 2013 Collora over a 2008 328i for 5K. ZERO. Life is just too short to drive boring shit amigo!
