They don't promote like the active army does. Active Army you go in front of a promotion board full of 1st Seargents and your Battalion Seargent Major. After being grilled with quesitons on basically everything, you get a score from the board. If you have enough points the month those become active (meaning you passed the board) you get your rank you earned. The Guard uses a "slot" like system. No slot = No rank. Not to mention you have the buddy buddy system working in the National Guard too. But like everywhere politics and ass kissing can get you far...............to a point.

They could use her in Afghanistan. Give her an M4 and a vest.

I'm locked down in the guard at the moment. So I had to volunteer with Vermont to get a slot for Afghanistan. National Guard becomes Federal Army once activated for a deployment.

Hopefully I get more demo pay this time too.

Just a E-5 buck SGT. The National Guard promotion situation is one that is so fucked up, I can't describe it. This past weekend's demo range was taught by me becuase I'm the only one out of 90 guys in my Company that has done demolition in combat.

Already got a $20K bonus coming from Active duty to the national guard. I volunteered for this deployment.

No bonus, just out of the blackness of my heart. Time for some excitement back in my life.
