  1. I've never heard of anyone dying without Corn Flakes. I've never heard of anyone losing their home because they had to pay for breakfast cereal.
  2. One thing that is important to remember: No one is asking that we implement Germany's health care plan, or Canada's health care plan, or Britain's health care plan. It's a fallacy to say "Just look at how horrible Canada is!!" It's not, but it's a common argument - it doesn't matter, because no one is saying "Let's use Canada's plan!" Comparison's to other countries is a useless exercise. Americans are, in my opinion, smart enough and ambitious enough to implement a universal national health care plan that works for us. What we have had up until now hasn't worked. We have too many people without health care, and the rising costs of health care is a serious problem for so many people - 50% of mortgages during the housing crisis were related to health care costs. Obamacare isn't perfect, but it's step in the right direction. Health care is only going to be fixed with baby steps. Sadly, the tea party infected Republican Party is hell bent on undoing even the baby steps.

  4. This really just makes me feel bad for Chuck Norris. Essentially, they're saying that President Obama is the anti-Christ. I knew he was a conservative, I didn't know he was nuts.
  5. I was a little surprised that both recipes are extract. They both sound good, though, I'm going to give the honey ale a shot.

    I used Fox News on purpose - if they're willing to call out one of their own, you know it's pretty bad. I could use some other sources, though, if they're preferred: http://www.stltoday.com/news/opinion/eugene-robinson-paul-ryan-s-diet-of-whoppers/article_76eb78cc-ab2b-5906-ac65-625736eff8fc.html http://thinkprogress.org/election/2012/08/30/772921/6-worst-lies-in-paul-ryans-speech/ http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-partisan/post/paul-ryans-dishonest-speech/2012/08/30/16bb62d8-f24f-11e1-adc6-87dfa8eff430_blog.html http://newsone.com/2033217/paul-ryan-speech/ http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/the_breakfast_table/features/2012/_2012_republican_national_convention/paul_ryan_s_speech_included_an_incredible_string_of_false_or_misleading_statements_.html http://www.politico.com/blogs/media/2012/08/why-the-republicans-loves-ryans-deceiving-speech-133847.html http://www.thenewsstar.com/article/20120902/OPINION02/209020305 http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/showtracker/la-et-st-jon-stewart-stephen-colbert-paul-ryan-20120831,0,2944723.story http://articles.philly.com/2012-09-01/news/33522204_1_paul-ryan-obama-camp-president-obama http://www.huffingtonpost.com/brad-miller/ryans-one-true-claim-isnt_b_1847047.html http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2012/08/paul-ryan-and-the-post-truth-convention-speech/261775/ http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2012/08/30/will-paul-ryans-truth-bending-hurt-him-and-the-gop/ http://video.msnbc.msn.com/martin-bashir/48848738/ http://www.fwweekly.com/2012/08/31/ny-times-politicians-may-care-facts-whoa/ http://blogs.chicagotribune.com/news_columnists_ezorn/2012/08/lyin-ryan.html http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-57503840-503544/obama-team-ryan-speech-factually-challenged/ http://news.bostonherald.com/news/us_politics/view/20120830fact_check_paul_ryan_takes_factual_shortcuts_in_speech/srvc=home&position=recent http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/30/fact-check-paul-ryan_n_1842586.html?utm_hp_ref=elections-2012 http://www.nctimes.com/news/opinion/columnists/estrich/estrich-paul-ryan-s-speech-bubble/article_fcd59e3c-340d-598f-9258-1cbfc81f3487.html http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Latest-News-Wires/2012/0830/Paul-Ryan-s-factual-shortcuts-in-convention-speech http://www.businessinsider.com/paul-ryan-rnc-speech-fact-check-misleading-credit-medicare-simpson-bowles-2012-8 http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-pn-paul-ryan-speech-fact-check-20120830,0,7050347.story http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/31/us/politics/ryans-speech-contained-a-litany-of-falsehoods.html http://www.salon.com/2012/09/01/press_turns_on_paul_ryan/singleton/ http://video.msnbc.msn.com/msnbc/48851783/ http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/31396576/detail.html http://www.star-telegram.com/2012/08/30/4219934/fact-checking-ryans-convention.html http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-08-30/ryan-accused-of-falsities-in-speech-by-obama-team-fact-checkers.html http://jacksonville.com/news/national/2012-08-30/story/ap-fact-check-paul-ryans-speech-rnc http://www.nationaljournal.com/2012-election/media-outlets-pounce-on-ryan-speech-mistruths-20120830 http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2012/08/paul-ryans-large-lies-and-one-big-truth.html http://www.goupstate.com/article/20120830/WIRE/120839992 http://andrewsullivan.thedailybeast.com/2012/08/the-lies-of-paul-ryan.html http://globalgrind.com/news/paul-ryan-rnc-speech-republican-national-convention-lies-list http://www.care2.com/causes/top-5-worst-lies-paul-ryan-told.html http://www.adn.com/2012/08/30/2605897/fact-check-finds-holes-in-ryans.html

    Paul Ryan quote

The biggest problem with this (aside from the fast that he was calling out the Obama Administration, not liberals as a ideological group) is that almost everything that came out of Paul Ryan's mouth was a flat out lie. I don't mean that he stretched the truth now and then, or distorted some facts as politicians often do. He just came out and lied for 20 minutes straight, and called it a speech. http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/08/30/paul-ryans-speech-in-three-words/
  8. Which socialist opinions? It is a lack of knowledge of history and government that leads one to believe that President Obama is a socialist. It becomes rather tiring to hear. If you're getting your information from email chain letters, and using that information to form and opinion, you're going to find yourself wrong a lot. I can understand voting for members of a particular party. I will vote for Democrats, Republicans and Independents at times, but generally vote for Democrats. This is because I've spent a lot of time educating myself about issues that are important to me, and the candidates that can impact those issues. But if you're not able to even say where you disagree with a candidate or a party, it's clear that you have no good reason for voting Republican, and do it basically because you're easy to manipulate with emotional campaigning. The same is true of someone who votes for Democrats without actually bothering to find out if every bad thing they hear about Republicans is true or not.

    Fence test

AHAHAHAHAHAH I don't know if you've paid attention to the current political climate. It's not the Democrats who currently have the credibility issues. Okay. Mayor Bloomberg is a Republican. At least was, until he ran as an Independent. But he's certainly no Democrat.
  10. I think the only thing stopping me from voting for Ron Paul is pretty much all of his policies, and my inability to hate black people.

    Fence test

Gump, there's nothing accurate about that at all. I'm friends with many Democrats, being a lifelong Democrat myself. I know no Democrats who don't like guns that wants all guns outlawed. I know of no Democrat in office who wants all guns outlawed. I know of no vegetarian Democrat who wants all meat products banned. Some want regulation, certainly, when it comes to the treatment of animals. But I've never seen a reasonable Democrat, and certainly not someone in office, attempt to ban all meat products. I know of no gay Democrat who wants legislated respect. Unless, of course, by "legislated respect," we mean "equal rights," in which case, it's probably true. Democrats aren't trying to get you to respect gays. They just want everyone to have equal protection under the law, even if they have butt sex. When I was down and out, I worked my way out of it. Many people do, both Democrat and Republican. It's a myth that only Republicans work hard. Democrats aren't demanding that Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity be taken off the air. Democrats don't want any mention of God or religion be silenced. We just want people to be able to worship as they see fit, rather than be compelled to worship. Democrats are not trying to ban personal prayer, mentions of God, etc. Demcrats who want national health care aren't doing it because they need it, they're doing it because other people need it. And because it makes sense. And because every other freaking country in the world has it, and it works better than our own system, and a lower cost. It's not just bullshit, but it's poorly worded, unsubstantiated, intentionally inflammatory bullshit.

Wow, what an impressive load of bullshit.
  13. I've talked on my bluetooth headset with and without a helmet without much of a problem. I don't like the distraction, though, so I typically don't do it.

    scary obituary

This wasn't true when the names were "Gore" and "Bush" instead of "Obama" and "McCain." The whole thing is fabricated. For instance: President Obama won 28 states. President Obama "won" 1,500,000 acres, McCain "won" 2,300,000. The population of counties won by President Obama was 183 million, to McCain's 119 million. The murder rate for counties won by President Obama was 6.56 per 100,000 (less than half claimed), and for McCain, 3.60 per 100,000. Lastly: From Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline Univeristy School of Law: "There is an e-mail floating around the internet dealing with the 2008 Obama/McCain election and the 2000 Bush/Gore election, remarks of a Scottish philosopher named Alexander Tyler, etc. Part of it is attributed to me. It is entirely BOGUS as to my authorship. I’ve been trying to kill it since December 2000. For details see: http://www.snopes.com/politics/ballot/athenian.asp"
  15. In this case, there is no "action" for the biker to take. We're talking about some careless person in a car driving into someone. The fault is completely theirs. In the article here, there's nothing to suggest that lack of a helmet contributed to injuries.

    Is it just me?

I've already looked into this. State law allows you to go through a stop light if a light is malfunctioning. The only malfunctions where this is allowed, though, is if there is no light at all, or more than one light at once. There is no provision for a light that is not triggered. I'm not going to risk it (plus, I'd likely get a nice second minor misdemeanor charge added on for using headphone in both ears, to boot)

    Is it just me?

This happens to me all the time. The car behind me sits a car length back, and the light doesn't change. There's one light near me where this happens almost every time I stop. I generally have to pull out almost into the intersection to encourage the drive to move forward a little bit so that they're positioned over the magnet.

  22. No one is trying to deny members of the military their vote. This is Fox News at it's finest. They are flat out lying. Fox News is lying, and the Republicans quoted in the article are lying. The Obama campaign is not trying to stop members of the military from voting. They are not trying to change when the members of the military can vote. What ACTUALLY happened is that (Republican controlled) Ohio reduced early voting for everyone, with the exception of members of the military. Why they did this is a matter of opinion, I suppose, but it doesn't take much thought to figure out why. The Obama campaign filed a lawsuit to make sure that voting the weekend before the election is available to everyone, since 20% of Ohio voters vote early. The Romney campaign, The Republicans, and right leaning groups have spun this to mean "Obama wants to block the military from voting early!" It's despicable, really. The Republicans are using the military as a political football.
  23. That hardly matters. There is always a way to take something the wrong way, especially if it's politically advantageous to do so. Remember how Al Gore invented the internet? He never said that, and in fact what he actually said wasn't inaccurate, but the sound bite probably cost him the election.
  24. Why would he fire any speech writers? His words were pretty clear to pretty much everyone would wasn't looking for him to say something wrong. What's all this BS he keeps spewing?
