  1. http://columbus.craigslist.org/mcy/2535795271.html Let's leave the obvious ones alone for a second, but if it ran good why did the valves need adjusted and what the hell happened to everything else?!? And what's with the ominous periods after "come see it.." It's like "come see it.. and then I rape you!" or "come see it.. and then my family will eat you."
  2. Chris Rock had a bit on SNL during the LA riots. This reminds me of it, instead of affecting the people that caused this mess, the rioters merely sunk their areas further into depression. I think that will be the major difference between elsewhere and America. It won't be a riot, it will be a full out rebellion, with little "mindless violence" and much more concerted effort. Otherwise nothing will change, and the powerful will grow even more powerful and even less accountable.
  3. It's the summer, so the prices are ridiculous right now. Wait until the first snowfall and see how many bikes are tossed on craigslist dirt cheap. If you are going to sell a bike, wait until the first or second good weekend in the spring. then list it for a thousand more than it's worth and see what happens. Odds are some idiot with a tax return and no brains will give you that amount because he "gots to get me a bike." Also, put a few "H-D"s somewhere on the bike or say it's a "cafe racer", that puts the price into ludicrous range for some reason!
  4. Less than 1/8in (mostly gusseting and gas tanks) is most of what I'll be working with. TwiztedRabbit is hooking me up with his welder this weekend. But thanks for all the ideas and suggestions guys!
  5. Nothing quite like following the letter of the law and completely ignoring the intent. Yeah American Democracy!
  6. Strangely enough, the 85 ZX600 I pulled the front and rear setup from had 16s as well, as it stands right now, now need for the sprocket upgrade. I'm going to leave that conversion up to the owner of the bike, if he wants to at a later date, that's his decision. Gusseting the frame is a definite, especially given this fun little bit: Don't worry, the crack is going to get welded in. Then that section is going to be boxed to give me a little extra piece of mind. Turns out this bike had been dropped off a tow truck. Like I said, it was rough when I got it
  7. Sad day, I think this means I'm the only one with a water bottle as a coolant overflow.
  8. Thanks for the info and the idea for the kit. It actually looks a little easier than I first thought it would be, we'll see how it turns out.
  9. Thank God I ride a Ninja then! Seriously though, that wouldn't be to far a trip if you needed the help.
  10. The only problem with most 80s sport bikes is their tail sections. They remind me of the original Cylons from Battlestar Galactica, the one's that fell over all the time. Awkward robots with equilibrium problems do not project an image of speed, in my opinion. I began some rummaging at work, and found some useable body pieces from another EX500, with some bubble gum and duct tape I figured I could pull one whole set of fairings together. So upgrade 2 was tackling the rear tail section. A few zips with a jigsaw, and some fiberglass resin later, and I went from this: To this: It's a bit hard to tell at this angle, but I cut and narrowed the the sides of the tail to follow the curves that came off the seat section and grab rail. I also shortened the height of the tail section, to give it a bit more upward slant. While I was at it, I glassed the side panels, the grab rail, and the tail piece into one piece. Instead of tabs, screws and rubber grommets holding the tail together, 4 bolts keep it nice and secure. 2 of which hold the grab rail to the frame. It's not going anywhere! The front fairing was toast, out came the jig saw, a bit of JB Weld to help hold everything together and even more fiberglass. While I was at it, I filled in the turn signal mounting holes as well. Upgrade #3 is an undertail exhaust, here's my rough idea:
  11. A friend of a friend asked me to build a bike for him. We talked a bit about what he wanted, and I started coming up with ideas. He wanted a sport bike, no more than 600cc, and it had to have undertail exhaust. He's never ridden before, so I was looking for something easy to control, but not too small to be outgrown easily. We settled on an EX500, and I got started. I picked one up from a guy I knew, I wish I had some before photos of it (they were deleted: It was rough. It had been dropped off a tow truck at one point, which had wrecked most of the body work. After talking with my boss, who used to race EX500s, it turns out that the front suspension can be a little squirrely. Upgrade #1 and while I was at it, I wanted to scrap the drum brake setup on the rear wheel. I picked up an early ZX600 Front and Rear setup, and after a few mishaps ordering bearings, The front slipped right into place. After a few hours with the grinder, some cussing, and a bit of prayer. The rear swingarm slipped in as well. Easy Peasy. The EX500 runs 520 chain, and the ZX600 runs 530, but Kawasaki used the exact same hubs on both rear wheels, so the switch back to 520 was a piece of cake.
  12. Those look great! If you're in the Columbus area, and need help with photos: let me know!
  13. We've got a set at the shop, I'll try and take some pics of them on friday and send them to you, I'm not sure how much they are though.
  14. The dent in the picture looks like it creased the metal, if it did, that's probably best to leave it alone, maybe fill over it with fiberglass and smooth it out. The scratches look like they just need a decent buffing, and they'll disappear. You could also try filling the tank with water and freezing it. I don't know all the details, but I know guys have used it for headers, and I've heard of guys doing it for gas tanks. I'm just worried about that larger dent being a crease, and possibly cracking or tearing when you try to pull it out.
  15. Thanks everyone for the responses! I'd like to eventually get a MIG, but I know my budget limits my options pretty heavily. But I'd still be interested to know what's available, and I can start saving up some pennies. Thank you, I hope my budget changes soon! PM sent!
  16. I'm looking for a used welder, preferably MIG, my budget is in the $100 to $150 range (I can always throw in a case of beer or two to sweeten the deal). Thanks everyone!
  17. I believe that Ohio is constitutionally bound to have a balanced budget. Which is why our current budget woes are relatively minor, barring the political posturing and threats from both sides, compared to a state like California. Raising tax rates on the wealthy is like carrying water in a collander. Unless you plug the holes, it doesn't work. It plays nice on television if you're going for that class warfare thing that the Left never engages in. But it's all talk, especially since both sides of the debate ARE in that top bracket or are DIRECTLY FUNDED by said bracket. Last time I checked, most of America can't afford the $20,000 a plate dinners that helped fund both presidential campaigns. Politicians may be idiots, but they're smart enough to not bite the hand that feeds them. Until the bureaucracy changes: nothing will. Ever go to the BMV or Post Office before and after an election? The same shitty people are there doing the same shitty job they've always done. Which is why the promise of "change" is a joke. Since nothing changes at the levels where our government actually executes its decisions, then nothing actually changes. Instead of solving anything, we just keep doing the same things over and over and over again; wondering why the same things keep happening. The whole thing needs chucked and it's time to try something new. That doesn't involve the Left or the Right or anyone currently in power. They've had their shot and they've failed. Unfortunately it's our own fault. We've all fallen asleep at the wheel, and now we're paying for it. Instead of taking an active role in our government, asking where the money is being spent and why, demanding accountability, and actually engaging in our civic duties: We all bitch about how bad things are, and come November vote for the same people year in and year out.
  18. These are a little out of your range, but The Town Trolley is definitely worth the trip. Town Trolley 6700 Lima Street, Huntsville, OH 43324 A friend of mine owns it, and I think they still do a really sweet deal on Banana Splits on Sundays. And while you're in the area, you might as well hit up Casano's Pizza in Russels Point. I haven't stopped in, but there's Lombardi's on Rt 23: 6251 South High Street Lockbourne, OH 43137
  19. 24, but it doesn't look like it. I don't really know how old it looks, or even what bike it looks like now. It's on the left, sorry the photo isn't the best. I haven't had time to set up a full shoot.
  20. Try eBay. I know most of the Ohio salvage yards won't have fuel pumps (except maybe Pinwall Cycles in Akron or Cycle R Us in Chippewa Lake).Typically, by the time a bike gets to a salvage yard, the fuel pump is shot, long gone, or the reason the bike went to the salvage yard in the first place.
  21. I've had no problems with it in my Ninja 750. It doesn't seem to break down that quickly, and I'm not noticing any new leaks anywhere on the bike.
  22. No worries. The internet makes it easy for people to overreact and/or misunderstand each other.
  23. All Balls has a steering stem conversion chart on their website. Punch in your bike information, and they'll show you all the bikes that use the same bearings. Everything you don't need, remove from the bike. Everything you can't remove, drill holes into. Everything you can't drill you probably shouldn't touch anyways. An aluminum gas tank might help save you a few pounds. If you've got the money to spend, BST makes carbon fiber wheels. They're super light, and you'll get a slight increase in power (due to the reduced rotating mass on the rear wheel). Let us know how it goes.
  24. I've fired plenty of rounds, have guns in the house as we speak, and my girlfriend just got a 9mm as a gift from her dad. Ignorant, uninformed anti-gun indeed. It's just as silly to think "Oh thank god, there's a gun in my pocket. As soon as I pull it out, it will make me a tough guy and scare away all the bad guys!" There's nothing anymore good or evil about a gun than there is about a pencil or a motorcycle. All I'm saying is if Shitty, or anyone else for that matter, is not ready to pull that trigger, shoot whatever is in front of that gun, and understand the consequences, then don't buy one. I'd think a well informed person who has chosen not to purchase a gun would be better than a bunch of "uninformed, ignorant...anti gun people." At least they understand why someone would buy a gun, and can respect it. Of course, you should probably learn to respect why someone wouldn't want to buy a gun either. Otherwise, you end up being the ignorant one. That's the best case scenario, and the one I hope happens every time. But I have to understand and be ready for the worst case scenario as well. If I'm not comfortable with one or the other, then I'm not carrying a gun.
