  1. Gmail accounts on craigslist tend to be scams, check the "marketing" and "bartender" job postings for proof.

The two things that stand out to me are:

The text is actually a picture

    They've listed their real email

  2. For everyone, we did change the name to "Econo Bike" to help clear up any confusion.

This is getting more legitimate every day!

Matt, shoot me a file of the flier. I'll hit up some local bike places for swag and mybe Mom's tattoo shop.

That would be huge! I should have it ready to go by Wednesday. I'll get it to you ASAP!

  3. The date is set for the 16th of April!

    The schedule is as follows:

2pm Contestants arrive. You have an hour to prep/ready bikes

    3pm Judging begins

    4pm Show Opens To Public

    6pm Awards

    9pm (or earlier, depending) End.

We'll have the location by posters/fliers up, and a blog running the end of this week. Also, there will be food and depending on the location a new brewery's beer as well (we'll be using their future brewery as the location).

It will be here in Columbus. I know that might be a drive for some people. If lodging will be an issue, let me know and we'll try and figure something out. Either a good hotel or a good couch, if worse comes to worse.

Fazer, 20thGix (all three bikes), and JoshFZ, I've got you guys on the builders list already. You're good to go, and thank you for the support.

Also, if anyone has ideas or leads for sponsors (for PR mainly, we don't need any money, but maybe some swag to give away) I'd love to hear them.

  4. look, im not saying set the speed limit at 150.

but when you have a 8 lane freeway that is 55 mph when it should be 65, that is keeping it artifically low. thats a revenue generator.

when you have a 5 lane road through town that is set at 25 mph, when anywhere else it would be 45, THATS a revenue generator.

the speed limit on the freeway could EASILY be increased to 75 mph and not be any more dangerous than it is now... but there goes their revenue.

You're absolutely right. It is a revenue stream and I agree with you.

The problem has never been good drivers driving fast, it's always been the idiots. Until they figure out how to get them off the road, I'm cool with 55-65mph and decent/forgiving police officers.

  5. Where's the data to prove that? Does this mean all highways are deathtraps due to their higher speed limits? Maybe we should go back to the 55 mph rule?

Not deathtraps, but your odds of surviving a 55mph crash are greater than 65mph. And the odds of survival increase the slower you go. When was the last time two cars caused major damage to each other at 15mph?

It's a corollary factor of course, accidents occur for a variety of reasons.

Strictly speaking, speed doesn't kill. But it does enhance the likelihood of an accident when combined with other factors; like road condition, traffic congestion, distracted driving, cell phones, alcohol. etc etc etc.

The problem isn't you or I or any good driver speeding, the problem is all the bad drivers speeding.

I'll see your image, and raise you one from the same site:

    85th_percentile.gif

Looks interesting: average speed distribution, accumulation of speed, injury risk.

Except if you read elsewhere on the site when they critique government speed studies, it says:

They do not say how the average speed is measured. Almost certainly it will be done at certain specific points on the road by laying two temporary sensor tapes across the road. Since no road, even a motorway, has an identical spread of hazards along its entire length then a valid test of speed changes vs accidents can only be made within a very short distance of the test sensors themselves and not on the entire road.

So where did their average speed data come from? And what is the actual speed that most drivers drive at? If you look at the accumulated speed and crash risk, there is a direct corollary between increasing speed and getting into an accident.

The other side of the curve can be explained as well. Slower speeds tend to occur on higher trafficked roads. More cars means a chance for more accidents.

  6. speed limits are kept artificially low to generate revenue... so why should i obey an unjust law?

They have shown that as speed limits increase, the number of accidents does as well. There is a point to keeping speed limits low.

From the article, this seems like a legitimate attempt to reduce accidents. It doesn't seem to be like speed cameras in Japan or England, where they're placed on freeways with the express purpose of generating revenue.

Although I do wonder how they'll calculate the speed. There's nothing to stop them from using the algorithm that would yield the most "speeders" and then generate the most money for the city and the company. With no citizen watch group involved as a check and balance, this has the potential to be abused very easily.

    ***

To clear up the facial recognition/license plate issue. The ticket doesn't count as points against your license or insurance. It's merely a citation, because the cameras can't get a clear enough photo to make a positive ID every time. At least that's how WTTE and WSYX News explained the red light cameras, if I remember correctly.

  7. wtf kind of thread is this? :wtf:

    brownies/steelers

    bears/packers

    cowboys/redskins

    g-men/eagles

    dolphins/bills

    jets/pats

    learn rivalries noob :D

Someone call ESPN 8: The Ocho, and tell them their new rivalry expert is ready. :D

    Maxi says it best:

Damn! Im a HUGE Steelers fan and I didn't take the loss that hard.

I mean, yeah, it sucks we lost the superbowl, but fuck, we were IN the superbowl! That is an awesome accomplishment.

No fan I know was ready to throw themselves off a building after sundays loss, but the backlash from the haters was pretty unexpected, and unnecessary.

Do I really need to listen to shit from Bengals fans? That's just bizarre.

This year was more fierce then most. I was trying to figure out why.

it's called google. give it a try.

If I want to know what a great t-bone steak looks like I can shove my head up a cow's ass; or I can take the butchers' word for it.:D

Google would have told me ABOUT the rivalry (which I already know) but not why this years Browns fans were so bad.

  8. Yeah, I know. I guess I'm trying to figure out how to test the stator and pick up coils.

There isn't one test for everything but the voltage test is close. In addition to that: you'll want to test resistance the wires coming from the stator and the field coils to ground and each other. You'll get infinite resistance when testing to each other (if I remember correctly) and nothing to ground. If you don't get infinite on any of the tests, then whatever your testing is bad.

You'll also want to check the regulator and/or rectifier if you have them, in the same way.

After that, it becomes a game of find the gremlin.

  9. I have the Honda and a buddy might tag along with his Virago. Also im going to bring another bike that i built from scratch. Not street legal but fun to ride. whether it can be entered in or not i guess Dorifto can make the call on that.

Have the rest of the details been decided?

    Where?

    Time?

    Estimate on number of entries?

Street legal is definitely not a requirement, but kudos if you can make it happen!

We're working out the time and location right now. As a heads up, there might be a date change (most likely moving it back a week into April, that way there won't be a "Biggest Fool In Ohio" Award). No more April Fools jokes.

  10. He went to westland with a buddy of mine at work. Its Giovanni Santiago, not sure if its the same. I've just seen his work.

I went to high school with him too, when he was still at Ready (pronounced: ree-dee). Great guy, good artist.

Wow. People are really stretching to use this for their agendas...

That's an interesting take on it, Pot. I'll go find you a kettle.

I guess I don't understand that business model? People are in the business of making guns. Guns are a tool that have many purposes. Someone misuses your product and you decide you shouldn't make your product anymore?

We're talking about Glock, not Four Loko.

(Note: I also don't have a Tec9, so I dont' know the history on that, but it sounds dumb to close up shop because of some 'outliers' that misused their product)

By your logic then, you can't really be mad at Republicans, nor should you have accused them of somehow being responsible for the shooting. The Republican Party has a product (a certain political ideology) that has many purposes, and on occasion a crazy can misuse a political ideology.

It's not the gun company's fault when a crazy misuses a gun, but it is the Republicans fault when a crazy misuses their political ideology?

  12. Or how accurate you can shoot without even using the sights! Shooting from the hip is just as good!

That's only true if you're a bad guy at the start of the movie, or a good guy at the end. Unless it's one of those "the good guy dies to save the world" deals. Then you run out of bullets or something.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I could use a spoon to kill six and injure 20 before anyone could stop me.

Would you want to fight someone that just decapitated a person with a spoon? WITH A SPOON?

    No. You wouldn't.

I'll go back to Fox News now.

  13. I think the kid holding the camera taking a picture of a beer in his hand like a big boy is illiterate.

Don't care if you disagree, that was never the point - keep looking though, if you READ the thread before commenting you just might be able to make one. Or are you that unwelcome guy at the bar that butts into a conversations having listened to nothing prior because you feel it's your God given right to blast everyone with your enlightened thoughts on things that were already discussed?

Add something instead of being just an echo chamber...

This coming from a squidbilly, and I can read just fine thank you.

Should I have quoted the marxist claims to make you happy? Or would you have liked a reference to the Obama/Facebook mention. Or the smiley/frowny face suggestions. Or how about where you freaked out about "facts."

Again, you don't like being disagreed with or proven wrong.

    Do grow up.
