  1. Moto just isn't what they used to be.

This appears to be the consensus...  The Razr was full of oo-look-shiny when it came out and everybody wanted one, but for a little over a year this ones been really frustrating.  I wasn't due for an upgrade till November and was dreading it and then I looked today and they've gifted me early.

I know how big the Note II is, didn't know the HTC One was big also.  Not sure I'm up for holding a mini tab up to my face for calls (and I really don't like bluetooth headsets).

Thanks for the info so far!

  2. So my Droid Razr Max has pissed me off for the last time...  This is the second one and I'm pretty frustrated since I rely heavily on it for work and personal business.  Time is money and I don't have time to jack around with a device that works marginally, know what I mean?

I want to get a phone that has the best in reception, since I think that's my trouble here.  My Razr takes a crap if I leave the wireless turned on and leave the home network.  It just doesn't seem to want to switch to LTE on its own.  It'll lock up, freeze, do all kinds of weird sht.

What device do you like for the best in reception?  I'm on Verizon and I'm doing a compare on a new device between the Galaxy S4, Note and HTC One.  Not ruling out the iPhone...  yet.

  3. Sounds like you're prepared for unexpected issues.  That's always a good thing...

I'm skeptical that a new furnace will cost you 4-5K...  We got a new, higher efficiency fuel oil furnace installed about 5 years ago.  $1500.  Shortly after that, the AC unit died.  New outside unit and new coil in the furnace.  $1500 also.

If you don't need ducting, which you shouldn't, the only cost is the new unit and install.  Install is a matter of a couple hours.  Talk to others in your neighborhood, if you know them.  Find out who works on their systems.  Call around.  Find a small company.

  4. Fuel oil?  Natural gas?  Propane?  Electric?  What have you got?  There are various points to consider with each.  And various maintenance requirements.  Fuel oil, for instance, should be inspected each heating season and a new jet installed as needed.

I have an old school guy that is the only one to work on my furnace.  It's a relationship I value, like having a doctor you can trust.  If you were near me you could call D&L Heating and Cooling, but looks like you might be up North.  Find a service you feel comfortable with (ie. someone who you don't feel is lying to you) and get their opinion.  I wouldn't recommend screwing around with a furnace, bad things can happen or at least leave you without heat during a winter like this.

  5. I have TCX X-Squares that I bought at IP for under a hundo...  They're pretty good for short walks but they're also not very tall for a motorcycle boot, more like a shoe.

I wear boots on my job, Hitech hikers in brown and Bates Sport Tacticals when I need black.  I spend a lot of time walking and on my feet and the first pair of Bates lasted two years before the heal separated.  Dicks carries them.  About 80 bucks.

  6. Anyone remember theses I could get them going so fast they would explode and send glass shrapnel thru the whole room.

oh hell yeah. When I first got them I continually hit my forearm and got a big black and blue bruise. I took a piece of foam rubber and taped it around my arm so I could keep trying. they eventually shattered and i never got another pair.

  7. Yup.  I've abused my Dewalt...  It also comes in a sturdy but fairly compact case that holds the drill, an extra battery pack and charger.  Other sets I bought had flashlights.  Cute, but I've got a flashlight or ten already.  The case holds extra bits, handfulls of screws and a set of decent drill bits.

One thing I found on the Dewalt over some others was the ease of control on the variable speed trigger.  Smooth.  And quick to stop when you let up.  Battery meter?  pfft...  That's why you have two packs.  If you're worried about burning through packs on a job, just make sure you get a model with a coffee charger.  Although a light on the drill might be nice, I haven't really needed it.  And the bubble levels?  I've had em on other drills.  Never used them.  If I was concerned about 90 degree holes in something, I'd be using the drill press.

  8. I went thru an old Milwaukee my first cordless...  batteries were for shit.  That was '94.  Bought a Craftsman cause I didn't know any better and the price was cheap.  It didn't last two years.  Bought a second Craftsman cause I was sure I had just screwed up the charging cycle and killed the batteries...  That one also didn't last two years.  Noticed the Dewalt 14V at work was still turning after four years, made the jump and bought the 18 V Dewalt kit three years ago.  I won't buy anything but Dewalt cordless products now.
