  1. Gov. Chris Christie: The Biggest Sham In American Politics

But Christie assured, he doesn't hate the firefighters and other union employees. He only hates the union leaders:

See one of things that the public sector unions don't understand about my approach in New Jersey is that they think I'm attacking them. I'm attacking the leadership of the union. Because they're greedy and they're selfish and self-interested. The members of that union are being ill-served by the leadership of that union.

Christie did not bother to explain how the greedy union leaders are to blame for the state not making annual payments to the pension fund, for private health insurers jacking up health care costs which squeezes pensions, and for a deregulated Wall Street plunging the economy into a deep recession and damaging pension investments.

Nor did he explain how slashing pension benefits across the board -- hitting both union and nonunion civil servants -- only penalizes those greedy union leaders.

Nor did he acknowledge that these pension issues can be solved without sputtering contempt for union members, but with calm discussions with union members, as Vermont recently accomplished with its teachers union -- trading increased employee contributions now for additional pension benefits later.

But as Chris Christie will tell you, he only speaks the "truth."

  2. :wtf: We need to change and be more moderate of a system that's been around for decades? Its the system that's all of a sudden too liberal or conservative? We need to re-compromise now because the states can't honor the contracts they've agreed upon?
  3. Once you're on a sportbike vtwin, you'll never look back.

I love my Hayabusa, but nothing puts a smile on my face like firing up the SV and twisting the throttle.

As far as the chickenhawk, I'm not really sure of any issues (I know the RC51s were prone to overheating, but I don't think the 996s were -- so I think that was a fairing vs. radiator placement issue on the RCs). I THINK the 996 don't have the over-the-bars fairing stay, which I like better, but that's personal preference.

Take cash, give cash, joyride, smile, leave cash with seller, take bike home.

  4. ©(1) The department shall appoint an independent hearing officer to conduct any hearing conducted pursuant to division (B)(2) of this section, except that, if the hearing is regarding an employee of the department who is represented by a union, the department and a representative of the union shall jointly select the hearing officer.

That's funny that the department appoints it. I'm sure there's no bias there. Kinda of like the workers comp doctor they sent my mother to after she was rear-ended, for the second time, in her postal vehicle that said there was nothing wrong with her neck.

The three other independent doctors she went to had a differing opinion.

  5. Without the LOA in effect... then they can change schedules when ever they want (see my long post on that a few pages back), deny leave for no reason, etc.. And if you think it won't happen.. then you are kidding yourself! They are chomp'n at the bits to get the big fat DENY stamp and slam it down on your leave form!

I get it fireman, I'm on your side of this debate (though I'm just stoking the fire for the most part). But, honestly, the part I don't get is WHY are the chiefs so eager to DENY and screw people over? I know they do it and that's why you have a union, but I never figured out how it's in their best interest to do that other than to be a bunch of assholes -- and powertrippin' has never been a good reason for anything.

  6. What's the definition of a "supervisor"?

Hell, I'm sure the chief can print out a placard and put "supervisor" after your name - and you're no longer in the collective bargaining process. Simply applying a label to someone to shift power -- done all the time, and then the rules no longer apply.

  7. Well.. I had a good nights sleep and I hope you all did too knowing that the FD was protecting you! ;)

    *blah..blah..blah..firefighter gripes*

So how do you respond to the people that say -- "Well, if you don't like your job, then just leave" or "If you don't get promoted or are being treated like crap, then obviously it's your fault that you're not a high performer. You don't get the raises and leave that the other guys do because they're better than you. It's your dept's way of telling you that you need to work harder. Sure, you get shitty hours and shitty pay NOW, but if you work hard, you'll rise to the top... or maybe you just suck?"

    What do you say?

  8. Gov. Kasich to sign jobs bill today

COLUMBUS — Ohio Gov. John Kasich is scheduled to sign a bill today that’s key to a campaign promise he made to transfer the state’s job creation functions to a semi-private, nonprofit corporation. The bill sets up a framework for JobsOhio and its nine-member board that Kasich would chair and pick. It directs the Department of Development’s interim director to review the state agency’s duties and see what could be handed over to the new entity.

The legislation moved swiftly through the GOP-controlled Ohio Legislature this week. It won bipartisan support in the Senate after lawmakers changed it to address some questions about ethics and public access. Most House Democrat said those revisions didn’t go far enough.

Many public records, open meetings and ethics laws would not apply to the entity.

    Yay.
