From the side view it looks fake. Look at it from the top, if you can see a black dot in the middle (where the point is), its fake.

Only thing you will lose would be your text messages, and even for that there are apps that will back them up. Contacts and apps are all backed up in the cloud. Music and pictures are stored on your SD card, and pictures/video also can get backed up to picasa, facebook, whatever. Root that shit, you're going to do it eventually, might as well get it over and done with.
