  1. But he keeps saying "we," which erroneously implies some sort of human intervention. It's all machine learning algorithms, the test for fitness is [probably] which results get clicked on the most. It's so abstract that it doesn't make a lick of sense to talk about "bias" in the search results.

It is all machine learning. It also takes into account your location and your search/click history. "WHY I GET SO MUCH PISS PORN AD"...well bruv, probs cause you like to search for piss porn.

Pro tip: Use incognito mode. Google will still know you like piss porn, but your family won't.

  2. Switching gears for a moment.....

can we talk about this for a second:

I kind of feel like this crosses a line, esp since Google is a private, for profit company, and not a public utility. Although the source is somewhat inflammatory (unusual for gizmodo but not for it's related publications), I don't think it is wrong in drawing the Mccarthy parallel.

How do you feel about this?

It's bullshit. Hand over how your algorithm works...YEAH OK

My favorite from this was when the dude held up his iPhone demanding answers and Sundar goes "iPhone is made by a different company".

Old guys who don't understand technology lol

  3. and most on the market are nothing like a go-anywhere SUV.

Seriously, they killed off the FJ, the Xterra, and the s-series blazer. Jeep Wrangler unlimtied is too small to be a decent road trip hauler, Cherokee is a joke, and the tahoe is a bloated overpriced version of it's former self. cant' get a land cruiser in stick anymore. New bronco is only going to be as good as the old expedition now that the expedition is almost as big as an excursion.

For me it's the new Discovery. Went form handsome and rugged to...

  4. I agree...but I have to admit, after driving to texas in my sedan with the family, I was considering an SUV for the space (and because fuck minivans). Then I remembered they don't make any stick SUVs and was immediately cured of that notion.

SUV's have their place and purpose. Nothing like a nice, large, go-anywhere SUV. Then there's RAV4's, CR-V's and whatever a Kia Soul is...crossovers I guess. Disgusting.

Stop hating on the young....fortnight dances aren't worse than the macarena.

They're both bad. I believe I would've gotten my ass kicked by my friends if I did the macarena. I thought it was great that kids started taking dental health seriously...until I witnessed a kids birthday party and they were all "flossing". Disgusting.

  5. Cards Against Humanity buys land along Mexican border to block wall

Donald Trump is a preposterous golem who is afraid of Mexicans. He is so afraid that he wants to build a twenty-billion dollar wall that everyone knows will accomplish nothing. So we've purchased a plot of vacant land on the border and retained a law firm specializing in eminent domain to make it as time-consuming and expensive as possible for the wall to get built.

So I used to mock the wall. I thought it was just a silly thing Trump used to get stupid hilljacks to vote for him. Then I actually learned about how we really do need a new wall. The wall in place today, that was built in the 90s out of old scrap metal from Vietnam, is a joke. It's weak, flimsy, been repaired and patched way too many times.

I suggest Card Against Humanity does a little research of their own.

  6. A large part of the reason for the fires that happen out West is that they aren't allowed to happen naturally, because humans obviously don't want them burning their shit down. It's a very natural cycle for lightning to start a fire, thin the shit out of everything, and then new growth starts very soon afterwards. They're actually GOOD for the forests, as backwards as that sounds.

So I grew up in a climate very similar to California, and we also had annual wild fires in the winter time. After a fire everything was black, but as soon as it rained, shit turned green as if there never was a fire. In fact, there is a species of trees that requires fire for it to reproduce. A lot of the time the fires were started by firefighters on purpose because they had control over it.

I've always wondered why Cali has such a big problem with wildfires. The house I grew up in was on a hill, right next to a nature preserve and every year it would burn, but it was never an issue. One year I remember it coming really close to the house, it was touching our brick wall. So my mom called the fire department and they came and put it out just enough to stop going towards our house any further.
