So lots of progress made. Removed the leaking oil mix tank, stripped the body work and cleaned 20 years of grime and goo off, and dipped the carb in pine sol. Put it back together and she fired right up. Cranked the throttle stop in and started teaching the grandson the basics. All we have done so far is work on stopping but he loves it.
Little sister is all about it too. Might have to start looking for another one.

Definitely ready to get some riding in. Rode 2 weekends ago in the rain.

Rescued this little guy from deep slumber in @bowdogs garage.
so far we’ve established compression, spark and air but the fuel isn’t getting to the cylinder.
ordering a carb rebuild kit, and air filter and have some snapped plastic anchor points to repair but should clean up and run good.-

If anybody wants this thing, let me know. I don’t have any room to hang it.

How fast do you guys run on the dirt bikes? I've got a street legal kit on order for my TE300, but I don't like running much more than 50mph on my current gummy knobbies.
Usually around 60 on the roads. I typically run the D606/MT21 combo. It’s a long way to the good stuff from your location so running highway speed will occasionally be required. I’ll run 70mph on the way to the meet up since I’m always running late.
we typically do 150-200 mile days. -

Definitely carried bear spray on my hikes. Luckily didn't have to use it. Wish Canada was more liberal with firearms. I felt nearly naked for a week.
Couldn’t imagine being out in the boonies unarmed. Add hungry bears and that becomes a big hell no.

Ordered a Saddlemen Road Sofa saddle for the Goldwing. Yes, it's heated. Used my remaining Hilton points toward it. $162 out of pocket.
Side note: We saw a trike GL1500 just like mine, same color, same faux wood dash trim. Never thought that wood happen.
How did you use your Hilton points to buy motorcycle parts?

This was a year or so before I officially joined, but I lurked some at the time.
Ben brought me a big tub of OR historical artifacts.

I will.
Look, the FJR is a great long distance bike that eats curvy roads for lunch. Just watch which gen you get so younger the abs and fancy suspension. If I was solo I would probably be on one....if they still made them.
What do you want this next bike to do?
I want to be able to do long distance trips without my ass being sore as hell after three hours. I love the Vstrom’s v twin grunt and engine braking, but I also wouldn’t mind heated grips, cruise control, comfy seat, etc. getting rid of the damn buffeting would be a + also.
The one I’m looking at is a 16 ES model with lots of extras.

Speaking of, I am heavily considering buying my friends 16 Fjr. What are the pros and cons of that unit?

If you used your front brakes more, and engine braking less, your rear tire would last longer.
That would defeat the purpose of having a twin. And would be no fun.

I got one from palmetto and have to say I’m impressed with it. Solid unit. Shoots straight and no ftf’s in 500+ rounds.
the AK snobs will shit all over it but PSA has it pretty well sorted imo. -
What did you do to your bike today?
