  1. I currently have Frontier's 3 meg DSL. It works for us. The kids play Xbox, I can stream HD Netflix. Working from home isn't the best setup, but I can get by with it. Not sure where your located but their is a new service in my area, www.skywirez.com they are a fixed wireless setup and are promising speeds up to 10 meg. Its a mirrored service so you get the same upload as you do download. Also a little pricey in my opinion. I am thinking about giving the 6 meg plan a try just to see how well it works. They tell me that they are in the process of expanding and growing their coverage. they haven't updated their coverage map yet, and right now I am on the edge of what their map shows.
  2. Well the inspector was out yesterday and failed my installation. According to the inspector and the NEC, you have to have a separate, insulated ground for the pool equipment. This means the 2 runs of 12/2 UF need to be removed and replaced with THWN wire. Did I mention that 12/2 UF doesn't pull worth a sh!t through PVC conduit. Looks like i am re-pulling wires tonight!! Anyone have a need for 2 90-foot pieces of 12/2 UF? :-)
  3. Then there's the bonding. I have to tie in the metal supports together all the way around the pool with a bare copper wire buried 18-24" away fromt he pool 4-6" deep. then tie that bonding to the pump motor's gound. I honestly dont see a need for this since the metal supports are already buried in the ground. but thats what the code says so thats what I gots to do.
  4. I am figuring 95 feet of trench, then up 2 feet into the ceiling of the basement and another 40 feet accross the basement and 8 feet into the main panel. At the pool, I need one GFCI circuit thats 120v 20A with an L5-20R receptacle and another GFCI circuit with a 120v 15A outlet. I figure I can use 1/2" conduit for the run out to the pool. so here's my shopping list. 100 feet of 1/2" PVC conduit with 2 90 degree bends and a 90 degree junction into the house one box for L5-20R outlet with in-use cover L5-20R outlet one box for "convience outlet" with in-use cover one GFCI outlet one 20 amp GFCI breaker one 20 amp breaker the wire is where I have questions. i am figuringTwo runs of 12/2 from the breakers out to the outlets, but can I fit two runs of 12/2 in a 1/2 pipe? the research i have done shows 9 conductors in a 1/2" but I am not sure if that takes into account insulation. Would running individual stands from a junction box in the house out to the pool be a better idea? Maybe letting a professional handle this is the best bet! As always any advice you guys give will be greatly appreciated.
  5. this happened to a friend of mine, well her neighbor that she helps out with. the neighbor had a water powered backup sump pump installed. didn't apply for permits because she didn't think they were needed. gets a call from the county informing her that she owes penalty fees plus the original permit fee and now has to get the back-flow preventer inspected yearly, at $100 a pop. installer said that they probably had someone driving around, checking the area for non-permitted work. ridiculous. I think the installer should have known this work needed a permit and informed the lady of such, but that's not my business.
  6. its Delaware county so the inspectors have already been all over me with a fine tooth comb. cant wait to start the process all over again when I build the deck after the pool is installed.
  7. Nope. twist lock 120v. of course today is the day I forget my paper work at home and cant recall the exact requirements. I also want to have an extra 120v outlet installed out there as well.
  8. I am having a pool installed this week and need to get the power ran as well. Just North of Delaware in Radnor township. I know its not the best time of year to install a pool, but the end of season sales got us. I figure I can dig the trench, lay the conduit, set the pole by the pool equipment. (manual labor type stuff to keep the price down) But sizing the wire and tying it into the main breaker panel is more than I want to bite off on a project like this. Any electricians out there want to help a fellow forum member out? Anyone know of a reputable electrical contractor in my area? Thanks! Bill.

    Car Troubles

So everyone I have talked to has basically said the same thing. nearly impossible to diagnose internal issues when a timing chain goes without tearing the engine apart. I feel like this guy has never steered me wrong in the past and everyone else that goes to him says the same thing. i am going to bite the bullet and have them do the engine swap, ask for the new timing chain to be installed in the used motor and drive this mother till the wheels come off. thanks for everyone's input.

    Car Troubles

Ummmmm... whats that mean for me? the wiki article IP refernces speaks to 2006 and newer models, Mines an '05. all i really know is the 3.5 V6, interference motor? Cam in block? No idea what that means. the more I think about it the more I am leaning towards doing the swap and driving this mother till the wheels fall off. still better than a car payment in the long run. Thanks again gents.

    Car Troubles

sorry folks i left out some important info. its been a long day. 2005 Pontiac G6 with a 3.6l V6. paid for, daily driver, (when its raining and thru the winter) No rust, interior has stains in the back from the two kids. It has the 5 panel panoramic moon roof. I dont do engines. I asked him if there was a way to diagnose more damage before the timing chain work, he said that would require tearing down more of the engine and that would be more than the timing chain. as it turns out the bottom gear on the timing chain sheared the key, fell off and detroyed the chain (thats what he said anyhow). My intitial thought is to swap the motor out and drive it thru the winter, then in the spring bite the bullet and trade it in/sell it outright on a newer car. didnt think about the rolling of two paytments into one option mentioned above. thats a good idea. he did say it would have a 12 month/12k mile warranty, for what thats worth, i have no idea. thanks again for all the feedback, it really helps. the more you know the better i reckon.

    Car Troubles

So I am driving down 23 south Tuesday morning, exit at route 37 and when I get to the stopped traffic my car dies. Tried to start it and it cranks but not even close to starting. Turns over but sounds way different than it ever has before. Get towed to a local repair shop that I have used for the past 7 years without hesitation. They have always been reasonably priced and treated me very well. Takes a day to look at it and calls me to say "something let loose in the timing chain area". From what I know, this is bad. He says he does not think anything else is wrong so I say go ahead and replace it. calls me this morning and says that it looks like the valves are bent and now I need a new motor, AND I owe $900 for the timing chain work. He just called back and said that he got the timing chain work down to $500. So for a used motor with 91k on it and the timing chain work, I would be out the door for $2300. Told him I need the weekend to think it over and he was fine with that. I have never had to do a motor swap before. Is this reasonable or am I being raked over the coals? The car has 158k on it as it sits today. I had planned on getting something newer once the wife's van is paid off in another 16 - 18 months. I am reaching out to my ORDN brethren to get a second opinion. I already know LBTS GLWS. Thanks for any insight you guys can provide. Bill.
  14. can you send the pricing to me as well?
  15. My 1000 rounds finally arrived at the Polaris store on Thursday. So I stopped by on my way into work Friday morning to pick it up. There were 20 or so people in line waiting. Once the door opened, some of them literally ran back to the ammo area. I strolled back to the customer pick up counter got my 1000 rounds and walked over to the ammo area where some of the people were arguing with a worker about the number of rounds per person policy. When will the madness end?
  16. Pretty good write up in the Dispatch today. http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2013/06/20/warm-weather-calls-bikers-so-watch-out.html
  17. I have been contemplating this same deal. Does not come with a battery, not sure what kind is needed or how much more that would be. or a wheel kit, not a deal breaker for me though, easy enough to fab something with the junk I have laying around. I have a very old craftsman 2400 watt that runs well, loud as hell but well, but its only 110v and struggles when i have the fridge, deep freeze, and sump pump plugged in and they end up running at the same time. Would like to pick this one up and wire in a bypass switch so I don't have to run extension cords through the house.
  18. Incredibly jealous! looks amazing.
  19. But now they have my monies and I dont have the product nor a promised delivery date. The lady I spoke to wouldnt even commit to the 25th, she said it was estimated to be there on the 25th. She told me thats not supposed to be that way. not supposed to hit the CC til it ships.
  20. Looked online yesterday and my order is on backorder. Called customer service and was told it supposed to hi the warehouse on the 25th. since i chose ship to store, they chargd my CC as soon as I made the purchase online. Dont like that practice at all. Looks like this will be my first and last online purchase from Cabela's.
  21. glad i could help... sell it for you. Not so glad to have helped move it though. next time your out back, would you mind looking for the testicle I think I dropped while lifting that heavy fucker off the deck??
  22. I placed an order this morning and haven't received any emails.
  23. I use this same setup in my barn. Works like a charm! 12 kills and counting!
