my dad had an interesting idea to twist the commercial around... take the american v8's, challenger, camaro, mustang etc... and have the same scene only in the mountains of afghan/iran/iraq with the taliban. whoever capitalizes on this idea will sell sell sell lol

wow you guys are all very lame. it was a black bike, near dublin area. or maybe it was grove city, could have been gahanna too? o i think it may have been purple. -
the new gen r6's (well 06+) blow all the hot air from the engine out onto your legs. not noticeable on highway or track, but traffic you will. the dual fans also sound like a docked jet airplane with the engine off.

or maybe it was a honda, could have been a suzuki too? and it was on 270 @ 330p

so basically what you're saying is i don't need a complete gasket kit set? just the headgasket, egr plate, and water outlet? is that a complete head or would i need to do a transfer of rockers/pushrods etc...? i'll call tomorrow and find out, but just curious if you knew now.
-
so just off serpents post, i could get a new head plus gaskets etc for around 300 bucks and be good to go? or am i missing something? porter- ill get to your post later im currently in a rush, thanks.

i haven't driven it. the mechanic said he took it home the night the finished and it was running really rough. the test they did was a hydro flora something test (i think) to see if there is gas in the coolant

wow seems to have blown up a bit since i last logged in... anyways im multiquoting a lot so bear with me yup real s10, the r6 is the only reliable machine lol. im leaning towards a rebuilt head as well up front just to save the headache of having to stop halfway through. how would i find out where/what the casting number is? i'll check out the link later thanks. i hope its not very bad, it only overheated once and i shut it off right away. anyways the only "problem" i had that started all this was like this: running errands, smelled funny, pulled into one of my errands stops and it was steaming/smoking. car engine off, temp gauge 3/4ths up (not full red). opened the hood, coolant reservoir was empty, refilled it with a 50/50 mix did not burp it. got it to a local shop, wouldn't hold water pressure, determined to be a failed water pump. replaced water pump, and thermostat, as well as other misc things needed (hoses, plugs, brake fluid, oil etc...) did another test (forgot name) but it was determined there was either coolant in the oil, or oil in the coolant and it was determined to be at least a blown head gasket. they asked if i wanted them to do it and i said prob not since im low on funds. and this brings me to here... i have not run/drove the truck on my own since i dropped it off. sorry to type that like a 2nd grader. im getting at least a head gasket kit, new head bolts. so far the avg prices seem to be around 120. i hope its not the block, that would just be catastrophic. unfortunately the truck is in beavercreek (dayton). truck was not in a wreck, not sure where you got that idea from. its definitely a factor, thats why i've put a hold on fixing it by the shop. its worth maybe 2k if that so i dont wanna put that much into it which is why im looking to fix it myself for maybe 500 tops. i dont wanna do an engine swap because i dont have the right tools to complete it whereas the head/HG i can do. haynes manual doesn't require rtv anywhere for this particular job.

ok since most everyone says its gonna be warped or cracked, where can i take it to either get it fixed if warped or new head if cracked? also what is the apprx cost and turnaround time for something like that?
-
im not paying that much, thats the reason im looking at doing it myself is so i DONT spend that much money. we had an older honda with a blown head gasket, but no warpage or cracks. so my question is, how likely is it that the head is cracked or warped with these s10s?
-
the gasket is cracked or the head is? how much would it cost to take it to a machine shop to get it checked? although i don't know if i wanna pay a lot just for bad news. i just need this to last for less than one more year until i graduate.

so long story short water pump failed causing coolant to empty itself causing overheating causing head gasket failure. paid a mechanic to fix the water pump with new thermostat and hoses, which is when they realized the head gasket had failed as well. already a lot out of my pocket, so i did the old "time out" when they told me the new price to replace the head gasket (+1700). did some parts fishing (fische-ing) and new head gasket plus all the req'd "must replace" parts/gaskets/misc plus new engine bolts would be total 150 max. so far a lot better than 1700. after that i ran down to the auto store and picked up a shop manual and looked over head gasket replacement and it doesn't look too bad. no special tools req'd (that i can see/or have read about). the only thing im worred about is the timing part of the engine if i have to mess with that. now, i've never worked on car engines before only bikes. like really never, most i've done is changed oil/coolant on cars. however bikes i can almost tear down and put together with my eyes closed, installed a new transmission on one of my bikes (that kind of mechanical knowledge). its a 98 Chevy S10 2.2L (I4cyl)

price changed comparing other similar model years. yea we're looking to make a quick buck, but not at that kind of steal...
