  1. I was hoping this was going to be a discussion on how to set up a good pass in a race situation. We'll have to discuss that later.

I have learned a lot about passing and getting passed from racing. The long story short is, in a track day situation there's no need to put an aggressive pass on anyone. And keep in mind, what you think is ok is likely to close for most trackday guys. Trust me, I was told what I thought was a super clean pass spoiled one of the intermediate riders during the "mixed" session after the last mock start.

This point caught my eye. What if you're in a situation where there won't be any easy passing areas for nearly half a lap?

Case in point: Grattan. There's minimal low-risk passing opportunities after the jump (cw) and I don't want to waste my time parading behind a guy who's slowing me up to take a higher risk pass later in the lap - so I'll pass him after the jump into the T5 right hander leading into the esses.

Most of them were clean, but reviewing the video I saw that I stood up one guy as he was starting to tip in.

To those that have been to Grattan, would this be considered an overly aggressive pass to a trackday guy?

  2. Rebuild the apartment building... There's really nothing you're gonna be able to do other than turn the bass down or compromise with your neighbor.

I'm in an apartment complex as well and I've talked with all my surrounding neighbors to come to an agreement with all of us to have any loud bass down or off by 11pm or 1pm on Friday and Saturday.

  3. there are two shafts in the transmission, each spinning opposite the other. the clutch basket in question, connected to the input shaft, spins ccw. It meshes to the output shaft (ie front sprocket) which spins cw.

    qed, crankshaft spins cw.

(when looked at from the right side of the engine)

  4. yep. 159 for plates, fibers and springs sound reasonable?

hey nate. actually, you may have some good advice for getting that basket out. the guy at middletown cycle said they use a 5 or 6 mm bolt to go into the holes in the spline bearing, and they wiggle the bearing out. that gives room to pull the chain off from behind...?

sound like anything you've done before? any tips?

first i have to get all that material out from between those gears. well, it would actually all fall out if i got that bearing out, but we'll see.

    sounds about right.

i've never gone through that way, when i removed the basket it was through the oil pan when i was changing the transmission.

2 Michelin Power One V fronts (3409 and 3810 build dates)

1 Michelin Power One B rear (3809 build date)

1 Michelin Power One B rear (3809 build date)

Each of the used tires have approximately 2 days of advanced pace at Mid Ohio. I've switched to Dunlop just due to ease of availability from work so I won't be using these ever again.

I'll do $170 for used front/rear set or $225 for used front/new rear OBO.

Few different options on delivery -

-- I will be in Medina more than likely in late October for you or a friend to pickup

-- If you come to Grattan, I'll meet you there

-- I can leave them with one of the MotoSeries guys at the October Grattan race for you to arrange delivery from them

-- I can ship them from work for about $30 extra

  6. I never get those' date=' but I'm also the best motorcycle rider I know.

Just watched the vid. Nice save. Did you not know what was happening? I am asking because I am curious if clicking up on the shifter would have been better than going off the track.[/quote']

I've briefly read about them but never experienced them so I had no idea what was going on. In all honesty I thought something in the trans was broken at first. When I came to a stop and it was still running without any horrendous noise and I could engage the shifter, I realized what had happened but was buried deep into the gravel trap.

It's always best to go up a gear and stay on track, but I'm guessing without the engine-braking Nathan was expecting, his entry speed was considerably hotter than he was comfortable with.

It's hard to not panic and ride it out. I've gone through T1 at BeaveRun in 4th gear because of the same thing though.

My F2 was notorious for finding false neutrals under acceleration. Never on down-shifts thankfully.

Having no engine braking was definitely a bit hairy.
