Casper
I'd love to know if this is legit or not. I don't have time to research it right now though.
Tonik
The anti's will be here any minute limiting the subset to 'developed' countries. They can blow me.
PhilD'oh!
I hope somebody actually does research the validity of this list (I'm way too lazy). I've been to many of these places, several towards the top if the list and never got killed...as far as I know.
bloodninja420
Greenland being that high up on the list is kind of a shock. I wonder if their data point was just captured in a high variance year. Notice the racial make - up of the rest of the list. That's the bigger story than any gun control. I suspect if you took the murder rate of US blacks it would fall in the range of any of those 3rd world shit holes. These are the kind of observations that don't get me invited back to a lot of cocktail parties...
Steve Butters
Without looking it up, I call bs on this list. Some countries on the list murder people and don't consider it murder (specifically looking at the middle eastern countries that follow sharia and such)
Steve Butters
Also, Switzerland at 0...no way. People don't need guns to kill people. Here's the gun death numbers for Switzerland... Too lazy to look up total homicide rate, but obviously it'll be higher www.businessinsider.com/switzerlands-gun-laws-are-a-red-herring-2012-12I'm all for less gun control and I believe it helps with violence... But I'm not ignorant enough to believe that having a firearm will prevent anything bad from happening Edited May 22, 2014 by Steve Butters

redkow97
Yeah, "murder" is a legal conclusion that requires that a person intends death as the result. Not including manslaughter stats would certainly reduce the USA number. "Firearms fatalities" would be more relevant. Although most of those stats include police shootings and self defense situations, even when justified. Tonik
No, firearms fatalities would be far less relevant. The anti's claim guns kill people. If true the above statics seem to say people kill people even in the absence of guns. Our at the very least gun laws don't do jack.
magley64
How about 2/3 of homicides are committed with guns in the us...Wonder why firearms are the weapon of choice for homicide...

Tonik
I work at a school. I'm very safe, guns are banned AND the Federal Government has banned plastic knives in the lunch room. I'm good to go. Oh, and they banned salt too. 's
Tonik
How about 2/3 of homicides are committed with guns in the us...Wonder why firearms are the weapon of choice for homicide... And yet despite being one of the most heavily armed countries in the world our intentional murder rate is looking pretty good.
Tpoppa
Doesn't this disprove much the the gun control lobby's claims? Specifically, availability of guns = crime. Switzerland issues every adult a gun and trains them how to use it: Switzerland has lowest gun-related crime rate in the civilized world. http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/switzerland.asp Much of the gun control talk is driven by fear of the unknown. Many people just fear what they don't understand...it's human nature. Everyone is trained on firearms in Switzerland, so the fear goes away. According to the statistics so does most of the crime. I really like the idea of mandatory training.
Tonik
I really like the idea of mandatory training. Yep, even though many of us may not need it...I had my first gun before I had pubic hair....it can't hurt to get a refresher just like taking the MSF from time to time can help. And I know I am going to get creamed for this, but I am in favor of mandatory background checks. However I believe the cost for that should be on the entire tax base, not just the gun owners.
