Cdubyah
If anyone has a moto that's going to go unused and wouldn't mind lending out for the day, I'd volunteer. Mr groves has several bikes just hanging out in his garage.....not sure if they have active registrations or not
redkow97
if that damn registration thing wasn't a requirement, the XR100's would be a ton of fun for this... They can cruise at 40mph easily, certainly wouldn't be loud, and they'll maneuver almost anywhere a bicycle can.
John
do you have a title? if so, slap a headlight, tail light, turn signals and a horn on, and go fill the form out at the DMV, and you're street legal.
redkow97
I do have a title. it's even in my name A street-legal 100 would be a ton of fun, but I would probably put more money into the charging system, etc. than it's worth. How long do I have before this goes down? would be a great excuse to spend money on a stator for the 100.
smccrory
I'm probably in. Would it better to bring a 250 D/S or a 650 ADV? I'm thinking CRF250L for ease of use, threading through traffic, etc. but I can carry more water and supplies on the 'Strom, so...?

We don't per say thread through traffic much. The bike traffic is the heaviest in the beginning. After that its pretty thin.

Understand that for the first couple HOURS, you're going to be going at literally idle speed. I couldn't hit the throttle at all on my 600rr, otherwise I'd blow past a bunch of people and bunch up the moto escort. Temp-controlled cooling fan was on pretty much non-stop, and coolant temp held at about 250 for the majority of that time. When I volunteered for moto a few years back, the mech vans responded very quickly. Given that the only supplies you'll really need are tire spoons to pop off tires and innertubes, the only supplies you'll really need are water for you, and even then the gaps between water stations aren't that bad. OsuMj
I had a girl's handle bars fall off her bike. I had my bike wrenches and we got her on her way in less than a minute. Stuff like that is nice because you don't have to call the vans in. I found quite a few people on the second day that were dehydrated and stopped next to the road. Even though you call in the vans, people are usually pretty grateful to get some water while waiting.I plan on having a small tool kit, water, and some random food assortment on my bike. John
So when I check my list on the Pelotonia site, there are only like three people registered for each day. Can you guys let me know if you tried to register as a volunteer on the site, and if you had any trouble? If so, I can try to get the link sent out again. jacobhawkins
I believe I'm registered. John, if it doesn't show up on your end, please let me know. Unfortunately, I only have the FJR... I'll carry lots of stuff I guess, but that cooling fan will be running non stop I'm sure!

smccrory
I'm confused (or confusing myself). I'm already a virtual rider for work's peloton (pelotonia.org/smccrory), so how do I indicate my motorcycle escort volunteer-hood?

John
oops double post... smccrory, you may need to modify your status from virtual rider to volunteer... not totally sure how that works... you may need to create a separate account to register as a volutneer? if youre having trouble, email me: pelotoniamoto@gmail.com Edited July 15, 2014 by John
smccrory
I tried that but it just takes me to my profile page. I think the rider types are mutually exclusive - you can't be named a virtual rider and a volunteer both. That makes sense as a real rider and anything else, but not with a money-raising VR.
