whats a better material to use aluminum or steel?

this question pertains to strength only, I know the aluminum plate will be lighter than the steel one and much easier to cut/drill/machine

and...

if I have to make one from scratch how do I go about laying it out

does it bolt to heads? the block? both?

and lastly

how does this affect accesory drive mounting in a streetcar? I can run an electric water pump but I need to retain a belt drive power steering pump, ther supercharger drive, and an alternator

its an L67/L32 into a 70's A-body

thanks

Well, the midmount plate that is in the truck mounts between the tranny and the engine.

as far as front mount, on chevy motors there are mount points in line with the crank that can be drilled and tapped if they haven't been already.

If you run a full front plate, it will also use the water pump mount bolts. You will need to make a spacer for the crank pulley the same thickness as the mount plate. That will get everything in line.
