zeitgeist57
Hey people! One quick question: 1) What is the valve lash setting for a 1986 Chevy 4.3L V6? (Carburated, Vortec heads). Thanks! smile.gif
desperado
Zero Lash. It's a hydraulic cam. Run it down to zero, where there is NO play, then give it a quarter turn more on the nut for proload. As far as I know ALL hydraulic cams are like this, even the rollers.

Nitrousbird
Some people go as far as 3/4 of a turn for pre-load, but IMO that's too tight. I've lashed mine a number of times, and some other fellow F-body's; I tend to use between a 1/4 and 1/2 turn. If you have roller rockers, you can do it while the motor is running. I've done it both ways w/ equal success.

Reason is is that the good sockets (like Snap-On, Mac) are thicker walled, making it tougher to turn the lock nut inside the rocker. We have a Napa socket that we've ground about half the wall thickness off of just for adjusting valves smile.gif BTW, are LT1s and/or LS1s roller-rocker-equipped from the factory? LS1's have roller rockers, but don't have a roller tip for where the rocker contacts the valve.
