zeitgeist57
Can anyone give me some guidelines for mounting my battery in the trunk of my Maxima? I'm putting a sub and amp in the trunk, and the prospect of running wires through my firewall is less appealing than running 0AWG cable under the length of my car smile.gif 1) Any pre-made kits? 2) Special parts needed? I'm assuming I can essentially splice power cable from the pos(+) lead to the batt in the trunk, and ground the existing ground(-) cable somewhere in the engine bay, with the battery grounded to the body in the trunk. 3) Do I HAVE to get a sealed (read: expensive$$$ smile.gif ) battery like an Optima so I don't get a hydrogen bomb effect in my trunk when I start the car? Thanks!
Guest stevil
1) Yep, there are. It's fairly popular in drag racing to move the battery to the rear for better weight transfer, traction, etc. 2) Probably not, if you get a kit. 3) Back to the drag racing... most rules say a battery relocated to the trunk has to be mounted and sealed in a box. Some boxes vent gases externally for safety in hatchbacks. So you could do that if it's cheaper, and make it neat looking on the outside, or to match the trunk. Otherwise, maybe you'd be better off with an Optima. There were some "kits" that just had the wire and some connectors for $50 or so, like from Accel, I didn't post those. But they might be good to mix and match with a battery box or something. mjeosu27
Talk to Eric (Driver) he has a pretty nice setup with the battery in the trunk...although I think he has an Optima as well.
Berto
i wouldn't do it, with a front wheel drive car with balls I.E. yours. i would leave as much weight in the front as you can. the "sealed" batteries are a good idea, when your battery is charging it releases toxic fumes, and if they are in the cabin of your car....well you get the idea. i have mine in the 7 in the back, and i have a sealed battery for that reason. IMO, don't do it.

zeitgeist57
Cornering, thanks! If I were SERIOUSLY interested in launching, I wouldn't be sporting 18" chromies!!! I'll still look into it, though now I an thinking about mounting the amp under the passengers seat and routing the power line fron the engine bay to a hole drilled under the seat and sealed with silicone. We'll see...

Launching or Cornering? you're gonna have to move more than the battery to make a noticeable difference in handling or traction... tongue.gif if it makes things easier to wire up, i'd say go for it. it's cheap and easy to do, and gets some stuff out of an already crowded engine bay... graemlins/bubbrubb.gif
Guest noodles*5.0
You can get a whole kit from summit including the box and wires and mounting kit for like fifty bucks and i just zipp tied the wire underneath the car back to the trunk, i had my gas tank out at the time so it was easy to run, but i wouldn't see it being hard....my car starts fine and i don't have any problems.....fumes aren't going to hurt you graemlins/gay.gifgraemlins/jerkit.gif , who drives with there windows up anyways??? Guest mudbutt
uhhh, running wires through the car isnt THAT bad. If you are hell bent on not running them through it, why not just run the amp wire under the car. I cant say for sure on the maxima, but on 95% of cars there is going to be either a spare grommet or a large one for main harness or something like that, that will have enough room for a 4 or 8awg cable. peas
zeitgeist57
Actually, I opted to leave the battery be where Nissan decided to put it. Might move it when the turbo gets installed
