600-800 grit will do the job. Then just clay-bar it. After that finish it off with aluminum polish. Scratches will go away, but it won't happen in 5 mins or anything.

If you want a mirror finish, jeweller's rouge and a polishing wheel on a Dremel is the fastest way to get it. Plus jeweller's rouge won't leave any scratches behind.

Your best bet to find the rouge is a place called Byzantium, a bead store on High St near 3rd Ave.

 

If you need something a bit coares go with a Dremel finishing abrasive pad.
