400 HO
Anybody review the lyrics, and tone, of that 1973 song to figure on its relevance to the present soup bowl? For anyone that does not know the words: When The Levee Breaks Lyrics by Led Zeppelin If it keeps on rainin', levee's goin' to break, [X2] When The Levee Breaks I'll have no place to stay. Mean old levee taught me to weep and moan, [X2] Got what it takes to make a mountain man leave his home, Oh, well, oh, well, oh, well. Don't it make you feel bad When you're tryin' to find your way home, You don't know which way to go? If you're goin' down South They go no work to do, If you don't know about Chicago. Cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good, Now, cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good, When the levee breaks, mama, you got to move. All last night sat on the levee and moaned, [X2] Thinkin' about me baby and my happy home. Going, going to Chicago... Going to Chicago... Sorry but I can't take you... Going down... going down now... going down....
Lustalbert
I was listening to that yesterday, and was thinking that as well.
martindc1
The ironic thing about that is that I *think* it is a delta blues song that Zep covered. I know that I have heard it played a number of times in the delta blues style, which would be coming from New Orleans.
Casper
That's funny as hell you posted that. The other day people were complaining about the response of the federal government. Then some other people were like, "well they didn't know the levee was going to break, nobody knew". I just happened to walk by and said, "oh people knew... back in the 70s... Led Zepplin did a song on it... they knew it was going to break". Everyone just looked at me with disgust. I laughed my ass off.
