Trouble Maker
Did they give you that? If so, that's way cooler as a free helmet, although it's pretty cool to begin with.

owndjoo
no, not free. gotta get some wins before that starts happening. But i did get a real nice chunk off though. REAL nice. You guys should go try on an Extreme model like the ones above. Most comfy helmet that will ever grace your skull. Also the lightest shell on the market, plus comes with that iridium shield with a coating to bead liquid and reflect heat from the sun. I also got an extra dark black shield for those real sunny days. I'll put up some pix on arrival.
JaSSon
I'm not a fan of the paint scheme. At all. Too flashy for me.

I will definitely check them out if I ever get into riding a lot. Only need for a helmet is for track days, autocross, etc. and occasionally at work. These are usually for relatively short periods of time and I don't need a super comfortable helmet. Plus I prefer an open face helmet in a car, and helmets for cars are usually designed a little different. I'd imagine they probably only make (closed face) helmets for motorcycles and maybe motocross (and sports like it).
owndjoo
honestly, everyone i know who races cars all use closed face helmets. ofcourse they are the automotive versions which are different for sure. But this helmet is BSI(?) or whatever the european standard is. It's the most stringent standard out there, puts Snell and DOT to shame. I'll prolly only wear suomy's from now on, period. once i tried one on at Mid-ohio last summer, i was hooked.
Trouble Maker
Yeah, I don't do anything too crazy in a car so I'm not too worried about it. Just ocasional track days and autocross days. I'm sure even then a full face helmet would be safer, I just can't bring myself to wear one. I just feel a littel clustorphobic when I'm wearing one. Does it also say anything about an SN rating on it? Some people who run track days probably don't know about that standard and might reject it simply on the fact that isn't not an SN rated helmet. If a lot of bike guys wear them, I'm sure they people who do bike stuff would know about it, just very possible not the people who run some car track days around here. dragknee66
The Suomy is .04 lbs lighter than the Shoei RF1000. Thats like a quarter of visor or the button on the chin strap hah. I heard that thing isnt very good for street riding because of the lack of lower speed ventilation though. See you at the track
owndjoo
You better be at the track this year, Lipps! I'm gonna get you into racing whether you like it or not:). oh and here's the info on the suomy extreme: Spec-1R / Spec-1R Extreme MSRP $649 Pushing the limit is what "extreme" is all about, and Suomy's new Spec-1R Extreme sets a new standard. In addition to the above standard Spec-1R features, the Extreme offers remarkable technological advancements that push helmet technology to the Extreme. This incredible helmet is an enhanced version of Suomys top rated Spec-1R, featuring: • The lightest weight (1250 grams), race approved helmet available • 3 shell sizes for ultimate fit • DVRC™ (Dynamically Variable Resistance Crush Zone designed into the EPS) • Removable washable 3D cheek pads (allows for adjustable custom fit) • Removable washable Comfort liner (allows for adjustable custom fit) • Anti-Fog / Anti -Scratch Face Shield • Sound Absorbing Polymers • Safety Lock visor system • Breath Deflector • S.E.C.™ (Structurally Enhanced Composite Fiber Weave) • Hot Cured Bag Molded construction • Oversized sponge cervical neck roll • Advanced Channeled EPS for optimum venting • Race approval by every major US Motorcycle Race Organization • DOT approved and CERTIFIED to BSI 6658 Type A: providing unprecedented pre-public release batch testing of each production run, providing exacting quality controls • Ultra Tech Face Shield - Standard to the Extreme is a unique face shield incorporating a beautifully translucent Opalescent Iridium finish with a special hydrophobic coating - this allows water to easily roll off the surface of the shield, an anti-IR coating to block heat and keep the riders face cool, and a state-of-the-art anti-fog coating. And that's just the face shield! • Alcantara - Used in the finest exotic sports cars and top class furnishings, Alcantara is a luxurious fabric offering a level of softness, comfort and quality never before seen in the helmet market. Now, Alcantara is being used exclusively for the Spec-1R Extreme's comfort liner, providing a perforated chamois-like material for ultimate comfort, water wicking, coolness and durability. • Ram Air Intake - The Spec 1R Extreme comes standard with this new cooling device. Located above the top of the forehead, this specially designed intake duct forces air into the helmet body in the open position, pressurizing cool air into the Spec 1R's unique waffled EPS channeled system. Flipping the switch to the off position on the Intake Duct closes the ram air intake from the rest of the system. • Air Wedge Top Diffuser - An extreme helmet deserves an extreme top diffuser and the new, Suomy Air Wedge is just that: designed to work in concert with the Ram Air Intake duct, the Air Wedge performs the duty of extracting hot air from the helmet body and out the back of the wedge. Its aggressive design provides a further function; the Air Wedge creates vortices towards the back of the helmet, defeating the potential for helmet lift at high speeds providing an extremely stable helmet, even at Daytona speeds. • Ultimate Graphics - Suomy is renowned for its top quality graphics. The Extreme series of the Spec-1R helmet come with graphics that once again raise the bar for helmet graphics everywhere. Combining Suomy's state-of-the-art graphic technology with a unique series of base paints and ultra-smoothclear coating put the ultimate finish on these outstanding helmets. owndjoo
i thought you already had ohlins forks?? I have a small trailer right now, but i think we're gonna be pickin up a new '06 20' for next year. That with the motorhome, we'll have plenty of room for ya. Between races i'll be doing trackdays for testing my new setups and get used to each track. So you'll have a good chance to see a bunch of tracks if you want to. owndjoo
you should find an older racebike to trackday with. i'd be so afraid of hurting that piece of rolling artwork. You could easily pick up a 03 r6 racebike for 4k or less.
