street pilot Posted December 22, 2005 Report Share Posted December 22, 2005 Nice cars. Fun to drive, handles exceptionally well, and rides nice. Pretty quiet in the cabin as well. They are underpowered though, IMO especially compared to the new M3s. Cons: Expensive tires and parts (major). Whats the mileage and price on that one? Make sure it has low miles/maintained well or maintainence will cost you (like everyone else said) also if you are planning to drive it over long distances the vader seats may not be the most comfortable. If its OBDI (1995) then it is quite easy to extract tons of horsepower out of simple boltons like exhaust for example. http://www.aatuning.com for aftermarket accessories. Also no go in snow unless you have appropriate snow tires, and some of the OBDIs had a problem with ECUs frying in the automated car washes. SPLN SUX Posted December 23, 2005 Author Report Share Posted December 23, 2005 Well im realy just shopping for ideas. I like the E36 front end better than the E46 (think its the head lights)... It is a bit underpowered (240bhp) but i have a relative whos built several of these cars with more than 400bhp so i dont think ill have too much trouble getting insight on where to find parts. I was planning on keeping the Volvo untill the end of 07, but i think im going to buy my self a bimmer for christmas next year. I still have parts coming in for the Volvo, but they are taking much longer to ship than i thought so im kinda stuck at the moment. I was really just looking for ideas. However they have stopped selling the IS350 for a bit due to that they found a part of the accelerator sticks to the carpet when floored. SO they have to correct every car built, they recalled all cars sold and put customers in temp cars untill they can get the parts. They are on backorder for 2 weeks. In person the IS350 has some sexy lines AWD and 300+ hp.....And It's the tits inside! A bit pricey though. Maybe when I grow up I can get one, but for now I must drive the rice mobile..... From personal experience, I can say that a BMW that is taken care of will run you forever. My dad has a little less than 60k miles on his '95 M3 (Silver/Grey interior). The only thing I don't like about that one is the wheels IMHO = teh suck. I love the 10 double-spoke wheels, and they set off the car a lot better, especially in that Estoril Blue (I believe that is what they called that blue). The car is set up to be a track car, and it is slightly underpowered. the '95 has 240bhp with more mod capabilities, and the '96-'99 has 250bhp with slightly more ECU restrictions. Chip it, and it'll be your friend for life. If you want to mod without affecting BMW maintenence, there's always the (overpriced, but existent) Dinan option. As far as the ride, its as tight as you'd ever want. As for winter, my dad bought the car with 17"x7" Modas wrapped in blizzaks. The tires are still about 75% tread, and perform well in the not-snow. The farthest we've ever driven that car was from C-bus to Indy for the USGP. After that, the vader seats get a tad uncomfortable. My dad has never had a single problem with his car mechanically. The only two things were out of anybody's control, caused by weather and rocks thrown up by large trucks (broken license plate bracket, broken foglight).
