Gauging Interest: Archers have a look!

Recommended Posts

So I got back from college and realized I still had a bunch of archery stuff in my closet from a childhood obsession. I have a Brown Bear (I think probably made by Fred Bear) compound bow, which I'm pretty sure is a damn nice bow. I have no clue. Its old. I have googled, ebayed, everything, and can't find this thing anywhere, so maybe I've got my hands on a collector's item. Either way, it's taking up space and I need cash, so I'm thinking of selling. Its approx. 45 inches top to bottom, has an attatched quiver, and a Proline sight (I don't understand archery anymore; its got four little adjustable needles on it, basically). Just looking at it, its a nice piece of equipment to the untrained eye...which is what I have. I also have three crappy wood arrows and two aluminum hunting arrows, along with two armguards and a three-fingerguard. My uncle tells me this is some kind of bear hunting bow, but he's probably as clueless as I am. So can someone tell me either what this is worth, or what you might want to pay for it?

Could I get like $200-$300??

Being brutally honest, this is an OLD bow. I have not seen round cams on a bow since the 80's. Bear is the bow manufacture, and the model is Brown bear, I had one long ago. Just from the pictures I can see that it's a cable system (with steel cables) and the string is beginning to fray and I would guess that it's original so it will need to be restrung.

As far as value.. maybe $50 and that's not having it in my hand to look at.

Reason for the price, it's a maple laminated limb bow, which will dry out over time and crack. I am not saying that your limbs are cracked, without looking at it I couldn't say that honestly. The other thing is the wooden riser (center), all risers are now either composite or aluminium. Wooden risers it was found had alot of deflection and caused inaccuracy in the bow, and it made the bows very hard to paper tune.

I know that this wasn't what you were hoping to hear, but at least you know. You might try a bow shop to see if there is a collectors market on these, but I would have to doubt it as I see this model at flea markets and garage sales all the time. They probably made a bizillion of this model bow and handed they out with the tax forms at some point.
