Okay, we’ve only seen pictures of Ducati’s all-new 1098 superbike, but we’re already smitten with a capitol “S.” Not only is this bike visually striking (like most Ducatis), but it just happens to be the most powerful twin-cylinder motorcycle in the class. Ducati’s top sport bike generates a whopping 160-hp and 90.4 lb-ft. of torque from its 1098cc parallel twin. And when you consider the 1098 only weighs 381 lbs, you’d better be ready when you twist that right grip. Ducati says it has the highest torque-to-weight ratio of any sport bike. Wheelies anyone?

The 1098 will make its U.S. debut at Seattle’s International Motorcycle Show in just over a week. But, come February, you’ll find three flavors of 1098 at your local Ducati store: a $14,995 BiPosto model (shown at right), a $19,995 1098 S model that receives a full Ohlins suspension and forged aluminum wheels, and a limited edition $24,995 Tri-Colore model finished in red, white and green racing livery with a sport exhaust. Bellissimo! –Ben Stewart

Very cool bike. Not so cool price.

For Ducati's sake.....I hope that's at the wheel and not the crank. Most companies advertise crank output to impress buyers...If crank 160.....It'll be slowwwwww compared to other liter bikes.

I think they are talking about other v-twin liter bikes not the 4 cyclinders.

Is that or isn't that a lot of torque for a bike? I honestly don't know.

It's not just about peak power.

I took that to mean a lot of torque. Either way, it makes me consider a bike.

it looks really hunched over, it may be fun to ride for like 5 min, but after like 10 or 15 it would probally start to hurt. they need to make a bike that has a TON of power in a form that is perciveable for day to day street driving, and beating the shit out of the occasinonal egotistic firebird........ :)

That's a ton of TQ....My 10r has 84lb ft...No other 1000 has had that much. Busas and things bigger have more than that though.

You're getting old :D

I know what you mean though. I sat on a 749 - nice bike, horrible for street duty though. I can't see the 999 or this one being any better. But then, a Ferrari isn't practical for the street - I'd still drive one, though.

It should have a very usable powerband - being a twin and all, it will have it's grunt in the mid-range, where you need it.

I have been a Duck fan for a while. I drove the 06 999 and it is really nice. They build their bikes to be taken thru corners, they don't want you sitting up high for that. For Ducati it is all about powering out of a tight corner and slamming into the next one.

This bike is very nice. I know where you can get one for about $1000 off of list.

The main thing with the L.E is just the colors. The beautiful pics, compliments of charles, are the L.E. Waaaay back in the day, Duc released a Tri color bike and it was the thing to have for any Duc conosuer. I think that is the same thing they are going for here, if you really love Duc and you have the money, this is what you will go for. If you just want to ride the shit out of it, The S model will be just fine, shit even the base model would be badass!!! Anyway, this thing will be NUTS out of the corners with that many torquies. The 900ss I ride is a little crazy out of the corners sometimes and it is slow but still has some torque. The torque can be scary cuz the ass end wants to slide. But anyway, nuff said, this bike is GORGEOUS and fast!
