AI Coupe
98 Pontiac GP, 3.6 50,000 miles. Driving home today battery light comes on, pull into driveway and now won't restart, batteries dead. I "think" I remember seeing a post that Auto Zone or one of the auto chains will test the charging system to determine if it is charging. I guess this could be the alternator or just a old dead battery but want to be sure. Suggestions? Thanks, Ron
bmw330is
The battery light means that the recharging system is failing which generally points to alternator. However it could be both, or neither. Its best to have someone with the diag equipment to check it out. Any shop will be able to do this, not sure about the parts stores, but they probly can too. Buck531
I know advance will. Not sure about autozone. Btw, it's a 3.8, not a 3.6 . That old of a car, it could be both. LIke said above, get both tested.
verse
9/10 times it's an alternator, but could also need a battery also or a fusible link.
