Browning
89 cav 2.0 When I get this timing chain installed do I pull the pin from the tensioner? Or leave it in?
Browning
another thing I've only put a timing chain on sbc's. Do I align the marks on this engine as well? I've got mixed results from google and no pics:(

Browning
did the old one have a pin in it? Can't remember lol. I tore it down in a hurry a week or so ago
Dave1647545494
ok the pin goes in the tensioner you set number 4 cylinder at tdc and the marks on the timing gears should line up thats according to mitchel online

Browning
It won't show for me so if you could get the pic I'd appreciate it:) ohiocichlids@yahoo.com I just looked at autozone and it says they align as well but remove the pin once it's installed. Didn't even mention tdc. Is there a trick to getting tdc easy on these? Also how do I know what stroke I'm on without pulling the valve cover?
Dave1647545494
pic sent you may have to pull the valve cover to get things just right
Browning
Got the pic. Thanks Yea the valve cover only takes like 2 minutes to get off so that's no sweat. Am I going to have to worry about one of the pistons hitting a valve since the cam isn't going to be rotating when I go to find tdc? Sorry if it's a retarded question
Dave1647545494
no just rotate things around slowly
Browning
I must have done something wrong. got it to tdc, marks aligned nice. Got it all back together and it's still not running It sounds exactly how it did when the tensioner broke and it jumped time.
Dave1647545494
did you take the pin out of the tensioner after you put the chain on and then roate it around to make sure it didn't pull the cam out of time
Browning
I pulled the pin and rotated it. Everything seemed to be fine. How does one know whether the cam is out of time or not?
Browning
anybody have any ideas? Maybe a bent valve? But wouldn't that be noticeable? Maybe I'm off a tooth? but wouldn't it at least try to start rather than free spin?
