HotCarl
So I think my computer is toast. I was at my computer last night when, im guessing, the power spiked lights flicked off then right back on for maybe less than a second however my comp didn't fair too well. Ever since this happened at around 1am last night my computer hasn't worked at all. Its plugged into a surge protector, along with a lamp and my monitor both of which work but my comp simply wont turn on. Would anyone know if I can simply replace the power supply in a case like this, or do you think the whole thing is trashed?
Akula
case like what? you can just go buy a new PS and plug it in, takes like 10 minutes. Go pull the old one out and take it to microcenter and tell them you would like to buy a new one.
87GT
Also I suggest you buy a UPS and use that as your surge protector so this doesn't happen again.

Tinkered with a bit and it works. WTF? the PS fan is loud as hell but it works, oh well.
Akula
fan being loud as hell is the precursor to the fan failing, go get another PS soon.
Mensan
Also I suggest you buy a UPS and use that as your surge protector so this doesn't happen again. To ensure reliability, do not use an offline UPS. Make sure the unit uses online technology.
coty061885
UPS is definitely good to have. Luckily I get them for free, the benefit of working for a company that makes UPS's. The power went out here yesterday and I was able to kill time by playing some GTR on my computer hehe.
