TTQ B4U
Didn't stay up or get up for the big moment, but I got a nice full shot before bed time. Here's the Eclipse from back in Oct 2004: http://www.pbase.com/pdqgp/image/35606571.jpg Full Moon Last Night: http://www.pbase.com/pdqgp/image/84616067.jpg Another 2004 Full Moon: http://www.pbase.com/pdqgp/image/35676302.jpg Just low and Large above the Church near my house, July 2005: http://www.pbase.com/pdqgp/image/46583027.jpg
Tractor
Nah I don't do early morning stargazing anymore. If anyone wants to do a star party sometime I got a relatively large telescope and live in a pretty dark area now. If anyone else has a telescope and/or wants to learn some stuff about the night sky I'm up for it. I also usually get the solar filter out and check the sun for spots while I'm waiting for optical assemblies to reach ambient temp and before sundown. Heres a pic of the moon I got the other day under pretty high winds so its not as clear as I'd like. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f185/EWhytsell/IMG_0328.jpg I can get good resolution down to a 1/2 mile area on the lunar surface on a great night. That crater is one of the larger ones though. Evan
Mitch
PDQGP in those full moon shots are you using a telescopic adaptor or is that straight from the camera lens? If lens, what focal length and what body do you shoot with?
TTQ B4U
Using a 400mm lens on a Canon 20D that has a 1.6x sensor so it's effectively a 640mm FOV. I also have an MKII but the 20D allows a longer reach with this lens. PDQGP in those full moon shots are you using a telescopic adaptor or is that straight from the camera lens? Mitch
I just got a 55-200mm lens, I'm going to take it out tonight to see if I can get any quality shots. No tripod or monopod yet, so if it requires a long shutter speed, I'm screwed.
TTQ B4U
Definitely get a good tripod and ball head. Use a timer if you don't have a remote shutter release. Haven't used the 55-200 lens myself. Sigma or Nikon? Nikon has VR I believe. Not sure how their technology is designed but you may have to shut VR off when using a tripod. Some lenses disable it automatically. I usually turn it off regardless. I just got a 55-200mm lens, I'm going to take it out tonight to see if I can get any quality shots. Tractor
A full moon won't take a very long shutter time and I see its rising again nice and big. To bad I'm to tired to take pictures tonight. Its very calm out. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f185/EWhytsell/Moon.jpg Evan
TTQ B4U
The exposure itself won't require the shutter speed, but his focal length will. Especially on his 300mm FOV that the D40x will give him. Personally, I shoot RAW and Bracket them in 1-2 increments blending them so taht the exposure all around is good. Here's one of my better shots of an almost full moon. Blending of 3 exposures. http://www.pbase.com/image/84674099.jpg A full moon won't take a very long shutter time and I see its rising again nice and big. To bad I'm to tired to take pictures tonight. Mitch
I haven't figured out how to bracket the exposures. The D40x doesn't have an automatic bracketing feature. While I have nearly a thousand shutter clicks on this camera, I haven't strayed far from the Auto or sports modes when a good shot was on the line. I guess its just one of those things you learn from experience. I need help on metering and exposure values before I head to the airshow in late Sept. girlygirl18t
It was pretty cool. We were pretty slow last night at work and again tonight. So I went outside to watch it. I had a pretty decent view from port Columbus but the lights from the tarmac and the hanger dimmed it a little. The funniest thing about the eclipse is that two of my coworkers asked if looking at it would hurt their eyes. UMMM NO. Duh
