Farley Posted October 11, 2007 Report Share Posted October 11, 2007 check your area for laws about pitbulls.. i had to jump through hoops for mine. and hopefully your in good with your neighbors.. mine ahted me for motocross...and the pitbull put them over the edge. and if you really need to i can reccomend a few vets that will hand you an american bulldog...or at least the papers for one... if your laws are to stringent to try and get around.... pitbulls= probibly the best house dog ever... my little brother used to ride ours around the house when he was younger... we had to put it down though... ended up having severly bad hips... and surgery was only a 10% chance to fix the problem.. plus he was 11 years old. so he had a good life. Bull dogs are exactly that bully, BUT if you have a strong personalty you shoudl never once have to raise your hand with one. Drop me a line if you want to socialize your baby bully. With any Bully breed if you don't socilize them from the go they will be dick heads to other dogs. All 3 of my boys (Pug/Golden/Bully) are socilzed with everything from Rott's to chiuahaus. ImUrOBGYN Posted October 11, 2007 Report Share Posted October 11, 2007 I don't have a pit, but I do have an AmStaff (American Staffordshire Terrier and no, they're not the same. Seperate breeds for over 60yrs. The Amstaff was used in the development of the Pit. Ok, moving on.) Nothing but good things to say about them. I have owned pits, known other owners with them, good and bad. Very headstrong, powerful (you really can't grasp the power and tenacity unless you've actually owned one. I don't care what you've owned before.) and full of energy but do make suprisingly (and better kept) housedogs. Those same qualities are what make them such a rewarding friend if focused in the right direction. They become very attached to their owners and family so you may run into some seperation anxiety. Some take time to learn to pottytrain. You'll need a firm hand and preferably training if you don't have alot of experience. Socialize them early and be sure not to get a nervous dog. Nervous dogs can be harder to handle and more dangerous than a slightly aggresive one. There are no longer any special laws concerning bully breeds in Delaware. Good choice, I was trying to decide between a pitbull or Rotweiller. And christian your right, I hate the name too because of how people react to it. I have a friend who has a 'pit' but her vet gave her papers for a American Staffordshire Terrier. Mine is so loyal and loving but if he even slightly senses someone using negativity towards me he'll growl at them. Once I tell him no, he lays down and stops.
